Played El Dorado Park Golf Course on Wednesday, April 23rd at 7:45am. The course was in great condition and the range was packed at 8:00am. $68 time, but the guy in the shop charged us the senior rate because there was a mix-up with the time (nice guy). The greens were in great condition and rolled very well. Probably anywhere from 10-11 and the fairways were also in great condition. We finished at 12:20 for about 4 and a half hours. We never felt rushed and only waited on a few shots - the pace felt good. Overall was happy with the experience although I would have a hard time paying more than 70 bucks.

Played last Friday at El Dorado with two friends and a single that joined us. Booked online and I accept that if I choose to walk I am still bound to pay the riding fee from the Internet, but I don't have to love it. I don't love it. Three of us walked, one rode, playing the blue tees.

Course is in good shape all around. Nothing great, nothing awful. I thought the greens were in pretty nice shape with medium speeds and good lines. Fairways had mostly good-decent coverage all over, but a few thin areas could be found. Rough was no issue. Bunkers had some inconsistent but decent sand - make adjustments. Tee boxes were okay.

POP was pretty good finishing at around four hours and forty-five minutes, but it felt like longer out there on the par 3s where the backups were significant. Luckily we had some cart service come around but for some reason (it was CPO) even the cart girl can't drive to meet you in the fairway? Kind of odd but whatever.

I've seen El Do in better shape for sure, but also in much worse, so I'll take it.

Played 12/6. Course is a mixed bag right now. Fairways were in good condition with good coverage. Rough is spotty. Greens were awful. Shaggy and bumpy. Making anything more than a tap in was pure luck... Continue »

Making anything more than a tap in was pure luck. Tee boxes mostly chewed up. At the turn, the bar was literally out of food. No sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, just candy and chips. They mumbled something about a shift change. Anyway, I like this course but hard to recommend right now.

Played a GK Cup match at El Dorado and got a very good midweek (and probably twilight) walking rate of $57. Feels like stealing nowadays in Long Beach! Kramnetto2 and I had a 2pm tee time with Mark playing from the blue tees and I played from the whites. A very hot day!

Course conditions are not as good as I've seen them here before, but by no means poor in any way. The fairways had plenty of nice, lush patches all around, but of course there were also some thinned out and drier areas in case you got unlucky. The rough is completely playable right now though, while the bunkers were not really too great as they had varying degrees of sand - some very thin and frustrating, others pretty decent, but none superb.

Tee boxes that I played were flat and level with mostly good coverage. They're holding up well with all the traffic and hot temperatures of late. And the greens? Well, they held shots well and rolled relatively true, but there were definitely a lot of pitch marks to navigate and the speeds felt a little inconsistent over the round, but nothing too crazy to bring a lot of negative attention.

The layout is always super fun at El Dorado with lots of tree-lined fairways, some dangerous water features on select holes, and strategic bunkers that are a lot more daunting when the sand isn't in great shape. But overall it's a very solid eighteen holes of golf with plenty of variety, but nothing in terms of elevations.

We had cart service come around a few times which was nice for a midweek round. So yes, all in all another good showing from the pick of the Long Beach litter.

Played Eldo yesterday July 11. Teed off at 7:40a pretty much on-time. Nice overcast day so not too hot, but a little muggy. The course is in great shape right now, especially the greens. They are rolling very nicely and quite fast if you've got a downhill putt (especially if you are above the hole and the pin is front on #1 -- BE CAREFUL!). I saw very slight remnants of sanding that must have been done in the last couple weeks, but really nothing that would affect line or speed of putts in any way. The fairways are quite green and lush, perfectly mowed like carpet in most areas. The rough is not overly penal. The only slight ding is the bunkers, some are a little thin, but mostly playable. I feel like now is a great time to play this really fun muni track.

Jumped on a last minute online time for El Dorado this past week and was accompanied by two friends and joined by a single with an 11:20 tee time. Unfortunately there were some issues ahead of the round that meant we didn't start until closer to 11:45 and were at great risk of not finishing the round due to Cart Path Only rules in place.

Fortunately we did get to the 18th green with the last light of the day and were able to finish, but it was pretty touch and go. All that being said, the course itself did not disappoint in the least. El Dorado has reclaimed its place as the true gem of the Long Beach courses. The routing is fun and interesting, the tall tree corridors and strategic bunkers and water features make it extremely challenging, and it still retains a nice fun factor that makes most rounds played here very enjoyable.

Greens were in good shape for sure, rolling quite nicely and at medium-fast speeds. They're well kept at present time and held shots quite well, too. The tee boxes were mostly in fine shape but there were the odd one or two that were a bit sloped. Bunkers had good sand in them and the fairways and rough were quite lush and playable ... still a few water-soaked areas for sure after the midweek rains, but nothing too awful. Found nice lies all afternoon and really enjoyed the round.

Unfortunately the snack shop between #2 and #3 (or #14 and #15) was closed all day which was a surprise, and there was no cart service all day, but there is a nice and convenient outdoor snack stand by the driving range when making the turn. POP was not great of course but most of that had to do with CPO conditions - never ideal but sometimes understandable.

It seems much tougher to get times at El Dorado over the last few years so I was very happy to snag this one late and you should do the same if it shows up when you're searching for tee times. It's really pretty optimal right now.

I've always enjoyed playing Eldo, even this course has rarely been kind to me. I just seem to struggle here. Perhaps it was the slow pace of play which I am not accustomed too? In any case, while I enjoyed returning here, I was totally beat-up when I finally put the clubs back in the trunk.

No complaints about course conditions. Greens rolled pretty true with decent speed and the fairways had good coverage. Rough was somewhat inconsistent - some thin, some thicker. Both bunkers I found had plenty of sand and were well raked. Staff was friendly. My real complaint is just how much it cost to play here now. Sadly, I remember when it was like $3 or $4, but then I also remember when I could actually hit a golf shot.

Played on Tuesday teeing off about 6:35 finishing in 4:05. The greens rolled with medium/fast speed, mostly smooth, and held shots. Like most older parkland golf courses the greens primarily slope back to front. When the greens get on the fast side at Eldo try to avoid being above the hole. It's difficult to stop putts by the hole especially with front pin placements. Unfortunately I fixed a lot of ball marks today. Lazy golfers! The fairways mostly have good coverage with some thin/bare spots. The rough around the greens and along the fairways has good coverage but among the trees there are thin/bare spots scattered about. The rough was long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The bunkers are in good condition. The tee boxes have fair to good coverage. Always enjoy playing Eldo. One of my favorite munis in the Long Beach/North O.C. area. The staff was friendly.

Teed off Tuesday morning about 7am finishing in 4:10. The greens are completely healed from aeration a few weeks ago. They were in very good condition rolling smooth with medium/fast speed and holding shots. The fairways had good coverage with a few thin spots and provided decent rollout on tee shots. The rough along the fairways and around the greens had mostly solid coverage. Among the trees the rough tends to have thin/bare spots scattered about. The length definitely affects shots but not too penal. The bunkers were well groomed, other than lazy golfers leaving footprints. The couple greenside bunkers I was in had good sand to play from. The tee boxes have fair to good coverage and are mildly unlevel in spots. The driving range does not open until 11am on Tuesdays. There is also two practice putting greens and a chipping green. Always enjoy a round at Eldo. The staff was friendly.
