I played the Babe course Saturday 8/20/16 at 8:20. Let's just start this off by saying this course is nowhere near worth the full rack rate of $84 that I paid. Now for the conditions: the term for the day was 'mixed bag.' Some holes were really good, and others were just awful. Tee boxes weren't too bad. Mostly level with decent coverage. Sadly, probably the best part of the course. Fairways were completely soaked for the first 11 holes. It was like hitting off a sponge. Lots of GUR, not much of it marked. Some fairways had great coverage, and others did not. The greens were the biggest disappointment. I mentioned many times that I felt like I was putting over GUR....on the green! Many were completely beat up, with new sod chunks being put in in sections. The worst part of this was they were putting the pins in these areas! I'm not sure why they would do this when other sections of the green were nice. Makes no sense. Rough was a mixed bag...some holes were lush and thick, some awful. You just had to keep your fingers crossed. Sand was again, a mixed bag. The one trap I was in had decent sand. Other traps had ZERO sand. Ugh. Customer service was good, and the food in Red after the round was great. If I could get a deal for $40 with a cart on a weekend, maybe that would be worth it. Full rack rate is highway robbery! The two Industry Hills newbies I played with were not impressed, and will not be back. I strongly DO NOT suggest playing this course for a while. Hopefully, it will come back in the fall.

Played in the IH Guest Day on Friday afternoon (fun event open to the public), $85 includes (old) range balls and nice all-u-can-eat buffet. PoP today slow at 5:10. Sad to report that course conditions have taken a turn for the worse. Very patchy, thin fairways and rough ... we had mostly decent lies (it's not that bad, I just hold the Babe & Ike to a higher standard due to the green fee here) but you can see many areas of summer distress throughout the course, tee to green. Some bunkers were in work to add new sand (marked GUR) and the others were in good shape, easy to play from but some firm areas can pop up occasionally. Greens were also somewhat disappointing as they were soft with many ball and spike marks to navigate, running medium speed but holding every shot. Scruffy would be a good word. I'm on the fence to recommend the Babe right now, honestly. Conditions could change with the weather or if you catch it when the GK mows and cleans up some of the scruff ... playing early would probably be a good idea. Mega Monday still in effect, that's still a good deal. But definitely not W/E rack rate.

I had to jump in front of the local HS players (lucky kids) and started on # 3 (so far so good). Played through # 10 (1 hour) and then, of all things, ran into two of the slowest single players I have ever encountered in all my years of golf (seriously and that is a lot of years). The first single (a man) must have thought he was trying out for the PGA (and playing 2 balls). He was unbelievably slow. My patience wore out and I jumped in front of him (but I was polite and said "have a nice day") only to run into a young lady who thought she was going to join the LPGA? Complete with a driver of the cart; playing two balls and looked through her range finder on every shot (you have to be kidding me). And when I drove by and said I was going through, she gave me a hard time (you can be sure how that discussion went, right). I can only ask, whatever happened to common courtesy on the golf course? There are many young players who have no idea what courtesies should be shown and obeyed when it comes to playing golf? What a shame. What could have been a great 2 hour round of golf at twilight, turned into a less than pleasurable afternoon.

With the end of the SCGA Net Championship today, I knew the Babe or Ike courses would be wide open for super twilight. Checked in with the great lady in the pro shop and she sent me right out on the Babe. No one in front of me for 7 holes and then I ran into 3 rude players who had no one in front of them. Would they wave me through? NO. On 13 I had had enough. Just went around them and finished in 2.5 hours which could have been 2. Course is in great shape from tee to green. Tee boxes were fine. Fairways providing roll and great lies all round. Rough was up and hard to play out of. Greens were just wonderful. They appeared fast when looking at them but the were a good consistent 8 or 9 on the meter (IMO). Great value today on a great course.

Not much to add since last review three days ago except that the greens seem just that much closer to being perfect three weeks after aeration and the tee boxes, at least from the whites where my group played, only had maybe a quarter of them that could use some work.

Played here Wed in a large shotgun tournament and man did I walk away in love with the Babe - first time playing at IH of course. Besides phenomenal conditions to a guy more used to playing Penmar & Alondra, the narrow sightlines and tricky angles of approach left me all at once thrilled and terrified.

I absolutely loved every hole on this track save the 9th which is truly a square peg in a round hole. The rest? Pretty superb IMHO. It was a confounding course for me as I mixed up a few birdies & pars with too many triples - never knew what to expect. Also way too many 3-putts on the complex angled greens with plenty of tricky undulations.

Can't speak to POP here as it was a rather large tournament so not indicative of a normal day, but I had no problem with the six hours it took - in fact, after starting off on the 4th hole, we ended up playing about 5-6 more after that just for fun. All customer service across the board was top notch.

Can't wait to try out the Ike next as I'm sure it's just as quality an experience. Industry Hills knows golf, and does it well.

On the Babe (no, the golf course) Sunday AM with da Boyz from the tips, which we do once in a while. Got around with some waiting, 4:45. Kevbig's review from two weeks ago is still accurate, the greens need just a bit more time and they'll be fine ... a bit slow early for IH standards but picked up speed as the day progressed ... very soft and sticky ... will hold about any shot. Fairways mostly full and green, never had a bad lie. Ditto for the rough ... a bit long in some areas so be careful. Good to see more divots filled with mix. Was in one greenside bunker on 17, nice sand, easy to play from, and well conditioned. Tee boxes were mediocre to borderline awful. Gotta do something about that. Spring is in the air ... everything is very green with flowers blooming, birds chirping, rainbows and unicorns. I'll be back.

Back out on the Babe today a week after they aerated the greens. They're offering the member rate of $49 through the end of the week. Greens are still recovering with punch marks and sand still covering the greens but I can say that the rain last week has helped immensely as they appear well on their way to healing nicely. Another 2 weeks and I'd say they'll be great. Rest of the course is in fantastic shape. Fairways are the highlight will lush full coverage and not a single dead spot that I saw. Bunkers & rough were nicely maintained as well. Tees were average at best. Many (blues) are in need of leveling. A course of this caliber shouldn't have the majority of tee boxes either crowned, sloped, or lacking in coverage. Customer service in the pro shop was great as always. Beverage cart made the rounds a few times. POP was a tidy 3.5 hours teeing off at 10am. Only a few groups out there today (probably due to aeration). Our twosome caught up to a threesome around #6 and we just laid back and hit some practice balls since we were in no hurry today in this beautiful weather. If you're wanting to work on your ball striking, now is a great time to go. If you have to have great greens to putt on, I'd wait a couple weeks.

I've played the babe about 4 times recently and I absolutely love this course. The whole course is in amazing shape! So green so lush, greens are in awesome conditions. Play time I've average about 4.5 hours to play the babe. I highly recommend all to play it. It's a little difficult to play but nevertheless so much fun.

Played the Babe today with Osamabinhacking and another one of our buddies as 2nd off at 6:50am. Caught up to the first group on #4 and we waited a bit before playing through on #8 for a nice 3:20 POP.... Continue »

Played the Babe today with Osamabinhacking and another one of our buddies as 2nd off at 6:50am. Caught up to the first group on #4 and we waited a bit before playing through on #8 for a nice 3:20 POP. $54 on the "special" that's been running for a couple years now.

Course is in pretty good condition right now. No dead or dormant spots anywhere that we saw. Green and lush everywhere (other than some coot/goose damage) on the par 3's near the lakes on the back 9. Tee's had good coverage but needed some leveling as there were a few too many crowned or sloped for my taste. Fairways and rough were really nice. In fact, we lost a couple balls in the rough that we thought we had eyes on. So beware as it's juicy and thick in many spots right now. Greens are smooth and rolling a nice med. quick speed and holding shots nicely. Was in a couple bunkers today and they had nice sand. No complaints. Customer service in the pro shop was friendly and efficient as usual.

Course layout is still one of the toughest tests (narrow) around especially the front 9. You're much better off laying back with less than driver off the tees to keep in play because trouble lurks everywhere in the form of trees, hazards, and OB on several holes. As a general rule on both courses, putts break away from the hotel on top of the hill. With the deals that can be found and being so close to home, I'll always be back!
