Got out to play the back 9 on Fri 2/25. Playing conditions were better than what I expected...although you could still find standing water in some traps and the low lying areas were a bit moist. The greens were in nice shape and rolled pretty well. Fairways typical for Knollwood, but no bare spots. Got around the track, walking with our 3-some, in 1Hr-45min. Blinding speed for this track.

WHOOOH! I get to the course @ 6:00 AM (not quite dawn) and there are 7 people on the waiting list (not to bad). 8:00 AM rools around and there are still 3 in front of me! I chose to play just the back 9 at this point! Really disappointed that I waited 2 hours to play a 3 HOUR back 9!

Now on to the course... Not 1 tee box is flat here! The fairways are good and narrow. The greens are exelent (fast & but easy to read). Challenging course but it takes to bloody long to play a round! If you have 5+hours, like a challenging narrow course and like to wait this is the course for you.

The course itself is quite challenge, yet the problem is pace of the game. Slow pace kills the rhythm of game and swing.

So many beginners expect you to wait and test your patience level, oh well what do you say?
At least on Nov.3, the day when we played, it took more than 5 hours to finish up to 17 holes, couldn't finish due to darkness after sunset. We teed up before 12 P.M. and unable to finish the game, that is really serious problem we got to think about to play again there.
I hope it helps you to choose the course you like to play.
I just spoke frankly, no offense though.

I played today having not played there in 6-7 years, so it was like the first time. This course is a diamond in the rough. It is a great layout, with some holes reminiscent of LA Country Club's celebrated North Course. That made it so much sadder that the course is in the shape it's in. The best fairways are half green, with most of it being brown. They aerated the greens earlier this month, and they are really nice. Soft, receptive but not mushy. The bunkers need definition and new sand. The tee boxes need leveling and repairing. It's also a slooowwww round, with many of the holes proving a little too difficult for many of the regular weekday customers. The layout is still wonderful. Personally I'd love to see the course cost more than it's 21.50 green fee if they could bring the course back to a good condition. Go for the layout, not the conditions.
