Finally a course that actually decided to due something about the tee boxes. Almost all of the L. A. golf courses (city) have the worst tee boxes, uneven, destroyed whatever but Knollwood is actually doing something about it, they are making them level and putting new sod in, and now they look great. I hope all of the other courses in the area take notice.

The course is in nice shape.
Greens were fast, a little bumpy but rolled well. Fairways were ok. An overall nice day and at 33 dollars with cart, its quite a good deal.

Played on this monday morning with 3 really great people who were very nice and really made the round fun. i went up as a walkon and within 5 min, I was called to play. The course though short on the scorecard, played long because most of the holes had uphill approaches and with the wind against most shots, club selection is difficult. The course conditions were just like any other city courses. choppy fairways and bumpy greens. However, this is a great course to play because of its difficulty. A walk in the park? Not quite....

Aeration holes are still knocking putts off line. The greens need a few weeks to recover.

American Golf REALLY needs to rethink their 5some policy. To attempt to justify the constant 6+ hour rounds with some half-baked newspaper article that states 5 is quicker than 4 is insane. Let's be realistic, 5 bad golfers is going to be slower than 4 bad golfers. Be warned, they will even stick a single with you in your 4some tee time without warning! American Golf & the almighty buck make this a tough choice with all the cometition out there.

This really is a fun track, and AG is doing some improvements (left side of #2, a few new tee boxes). The greens, despite the beating they get every day, are remarkably good... fast, pretty smooth, and tough to putt well. The rough is pretty inconsistant, from bare to US Open style, hack back to fairway. Fairways aren't bad. Aren't amazing, but again, considering, not too bad. Even the sand was relatively consistant... for the couple of times I was in it today. The tees are as a rule awful... they've rebuilt a couple that aren't open for play yet, but there are 18 minus a couple that need to be addressed.

Still one of the biggest issues is the slow play. I was in the 4th group this morning (more on that later), and we waited behind a walking threesome who had plenty of room ahead. And all the groups behind were on us all day. Marshal? I saw him on 16 for the first time. Too little too late. I feel bad for the folks teeing off at 8 am.

My other complaint has to do with the tee time policy. I called made a time for 6:36 last week. My partner and I arrived and checked in with the shop at 6:15. I believe there was a 6:30 time booked, but I don't understand why we teed off at 6:55 behind 3 groups. I can't imagine how late the times must get as the day progresses. I understand there are a lot of "regulars" that try to get off before the "real times" but on the days they can't, shouldn't they wait their turn? And why can't they just make a time like the rest of us?

Alright, enough ranting. Once we got on the course and off the bad tee boxes, it really was a great round of golf. I really enjoy the course, but the stuff you have to put up with to play it make it a really tough sell. Then again, $21... besides, the rest of the area is aerating.

Even golf at Knollwood is better than working! HA!

Had not played here for 3 or 4 years because it got really horrible. Just stopped in on the 11th and was very surprised. Condition was pretty darn good. Tee boxes a little rough in spots but otherwise everything else was really nice. The biggest difference in 3 years is that the ladies seem to have have found it. It must have been 10 to 1 women...they are nicely dressed but SLOW SLOW SlLOW...Should have had my radio or phone...we waited on every hole.

Having not played this course for two years, I came back last week and will again wait for a long time before I get back here. I made a comment to the Pro Shop about the more than 5 hour round and was told to be happy because that was about right. Guess American Gold can go BK for all I care, if that is the attitude of employees.
