Out early this AM and we finished in 3 hours. So much better than last week. Course is still in dormant stages in the fairways (nothing has changed). Tee boxes and traps are of course in good shape (all done 2 years ago) and as many of us have mentioned, there is no rough. Depending upon where you land, you will get acceptable/thin/bare lies and always the possible roll into "who knows where" due to such dry/hard fairways. Greens were very nice and still fast and chipping/putting very well. Customer service was excellent as always (including the issue from last week).

My first round of 2016 was here yesterday with a 6:45 time...brrrrrrr it was cold for the first 9 holes.

My first round of 2016 was here yesterday with a 6:45 time...brrrrrrr it was cold for the first 9 holes.
I have played here many times so I know the course quite well. Still, it is hard to get a feel for the greens. They are sloped and have a lot of grain which makes it difficult to judge the speeds. Fairways were okay but hard to hit on a few holes due to the extreme slopes and dry conditions. Rough was not good with very patchy areas throughout. Tees were nice and the value is great with the awesome views!!!

Played today and wished I hadn't. Early tee time, yet the marshal decided he would let groups off as they pleased as at 6:30 the 6:07 group was teeing off. When we inquired as to why this was occurring he merely said "well they wanted to wait for more light." Really? If you make a 6:07 tee time in Dec use a glow ball or don't bother playing. And since when is it the marshal's decision to make life miserable for everyone else. And of course we had two groups in front of us who were walking and the first group of 4 struggled to stay up with the group in front of them who were riding (bet they finished early). And that same marshal never came around to move groups along? Yep you guessed it. 2 hrs 30 to play 9. Don't have any idea how the rest of my group finished? I was done at 9. Fairways are hard, uneven with lots of thin lies. Tee boxes/sand traps OK. Get off the fairway and you will roll forever into some unplayable areas, as many of you know who have or do play here. Greens while nothing to look at were in good shape for putting/chipping. Customer service excellent at all levels except one. Happy New Year.

Played very early Monday morning. I feel pretty much the same as MK who rated the course on the 6th. The fairways are pretty beat up and the greens had a layer of sand on them. I too get a little bent on how lazy some players are about fixing their ball marks on the greens. All in all I still like playing the course. The views are outstanding. The staff is great. I hope with some
decent rain all of the local golf courses get back to how the photographers shoot them on the websites come spring time.

Played Sat 12/5 early morning as a single joining 3 other nice people with glow ball the first 3 holes. POP was 4 hour walking the course on a beautiful morning and done before 10 a.m. to go home and enjoy late breakfast with family. I love early morning golf, okay, not really, but I do like morning golf.. after the sun come up without glow ball. I still had a blast and would play that early with glow ball if I didn't have a tee time like yesterday as a walk on. The golf course is beautiful, the views of the ocean I meant. The course itself looks and plays pretty beaten up. I played last week and the greens were fast and smooth, but what happed in just 1 week?!? Looks like they dusted the greens with sand earlier this week even though they were aerated 3-4 weeks ago. I love this course and is my home course so it pains me so see people not repairing their ball marks on the green. I probably fixed 1/2 dozen marks on each green as I walked around to survey my putting line. The greens putted and held their line pretty decent but very quick on all downhill putts. Tee box and bunkers are always good here. Fairway had decent coverage with thin spots but playable. Rough is bad to non-existent due drought so no complaints here as I rather want them to water the fairway and greens and sacrifice the rough with water rations. Did I mention the views already?.. simple a fantastic!

Played yesterday in a nice pace of 3.5 hours. Customer service great as always. But the fairways at present (IMO) are the worst I have seen here. I realize they just aerated them but there is almost no grass, many bare areas and I personally never had a good lie all morning. If you miss the fairway (if that is what they are currently) you can end up in some spots that you never knew existed here? Of course the tee boxes and sand traps are good because they are all new in the last 2/3 years. Greens are very nice. But nice tee boxes, sand traps and greens don't make a complete golf experience (IMO). I suspect the course will play this way until spring and I can only imagine what the fairways will look like when it rains (I won't be there to find out either). At this point, I am going to not evaluate the course until I really really see some improvement (and I know it will happen).

Played yesterday Friday. Pace of play horrendous for tee off around 1PM. This is typical for the course. We only managed to play 10 holes before the sun set and total darkness hit.

Greens in spectacular shape. They held their line well. Bunkers greenside well stocked with sand. Green complexes in good shape, still some were a bit shaggy around the skirt. Fairways had decent coverage with a few bare spots or thin lies. Please note their turf abatement is the rough. A lot of areas leading up to the landing area off the tee boxes are cut short and essentially dirt or close to it. Don't complain though you're not supposed to be there anyways. Aside from that particular note course is in great condition and considering the price a bargain. Just be sure to bring a lot of patience with you. They really tend to fill up the course and accommodate even the walk-ons like myself. This means extra long pace of play issues.

The local term it breaks to the ocean may be true but remember this course sits on a hillside so forget which ocean it breaks to.. consider where uphill and downhill are; and you should do fine. Good luck.

Play here again? Of course. Family are close by and when they watch my kids I get to play some golf with some of the best views in LA. Are you kidding? Of course I would play again.

Played Los Verdes on Wednesday ridiculously early with a buddy in from out of town who really wanted the SoCal experience. With no tee time, we arrived right at 6am and luckily were sent out right away in the biting cold and wind. Unfortunately we had to bypass the first hole to meet up with our twosome but it was worth not having to try our luck with the waiting list any longer.

It may have been the cold, but I've never had so many three-putts in a round, and even one four-putt - I was hurrying and not taking my normal time. But the greens were also crazy fast and rolling for days. Forget about stopping your approaches on the greens too unless they were Jason Day trajectory. The wind, speed and crazy rolls made putting a monster for all of us. But the greens themselves are in very good shape.

Fairways were mostly playable with lots of GUR areas, some mud, and some dried out sections where watering appeared minimal. Tee boxes were pretty chewed up in places but generally okay. The rough was a mixed bag throughout - thick grass, mulch, dirt and some very playable. It was so cold and early that it was hard to judge the sand, but it played just fine. Of course it can always be fluffier green side.

POP, the devil at LV, was a non-issue starting out so early. We kept pace with the group in front of us for the most part and were rarely pushed, which resulted in a sub-4 hour round - inconceivable! Still some tough holes at LV that no matter how good your tee shot is it won't be rewarded (looking at you 9 and 13). Of course par on 15 and birdie on 16 was a treat that saved what would have been a terrible round from all the putts on the front 9.

My friend from Costa Rica was thrilled with the views and layout at LV, but of course I told him despite the cold and windy weather we got pretty lucky avoiding the typical 5.5-6 hour round. I enjoyed shooting my best ever score there and knowing next time with improved putting can do even better.

Back out again today and POP was right on 4 hours. Course sustained lots of tree damage during Mondays winds. Course has dried out considerably with the recent winds, sun and low humidity, making the fairways very fast and of course on L V that will amount to some bad areas to hit from on missed shots. Found the tee boxes, sand traps to be in great shape. The greens will hold shots and are in great shape, but are very fast when it comes to chipping/putting (fastest I have seen in a long time but fun/challenging). Customer service excellent at all levels.
