Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played 8/28 just after 1pm. Course was not as busy as usual, but still lots of people. Surprised tee times were running little ahead of schedule. Got paired up with 2 other single walk-ons and enjoyed the round. Little bit of waiting on each hole, especially holes 2-5, but as usual it opened up with minimal waiting from #6 (par 5) onward. POP was little less than 5.5 hours, slow but not too bad for LV standards if you are not teeing before 9:30 a.m.
I enjoyed the company and played in beautiful 75 degree weather with some 10mph wind that settled down to very light ocean breeze after the turn. The tee box was level with minimal divots. Fairways were good for the most part with some brown spots, but too much crabgrass especially near the edges as you get closer to roughs. Crabgrass is my biggest complaint and knock on LV other than slow POP. Roughs can be penal in some parts with tall grass and bare hard pan in others. Greens were nice and running medium but fast downhill, but had lots of unrepaired pitch marks (not LV's fault) and I usually fixed about 5 pitch marks per each green. Shame on you fellow golfers for not repairing your divots on the green! I enjoyed my round, as usual at LV, if you can stomach the POP.

Played the Woods yesterday afternoon as a walk on single around noon. Supposed to be windy per forecast but turned out to be pretty nice and sunny. Played with 2 other older single players and had a good time without waiting much and any of the holes. POP was right at 4 hours. Conditions were pretty decent for a muni. Tee box were level, fairways had decent coverage with few brown spots but very playable. Rough were long in some areas and short in others but lucky to have any roughs in some muni courses so no complaints here. Green were punched probably a month or so ago and although you can still see punch marks, it was fine and rolled nice except for some bobble and bumps but very playable. Greens probably needs cutting and rolling and should be nice in 1 week. We are blessed to have fantastic weather in Socal and yesterday was no exception. Probably 5 to 10 mph breeze to keep us cool from the bright sun. I would play the woods again.
Played 6/8 mid morning in beautiful overcast cool coastal weather with the sun peeking out aroung 1 pm. As for golf, I was rather disappointed with the conditions. First 3 holes were recently punched but not filled-in/sanded causing bumpy putts. I was like, WTF? Aerating in June?? I would guess about 9 or 10 out of 18 holes had recent holes punched. The non-punched holes rolled medium speed and was smooth. The course conditions otherwise was about average considering the drought conditions with some thin conditions on the fairways. Just wanted to give heads up to GKers that course is under major construction/renovations for what it looks like turf reduction around many fairway bunkers and some greenside bunkers. Looks like they are also re-doing many bunkers and some tee boxes. If you are a die hard golfer, then I will still recommend the course under current conditions, but if you are a weekend hacker playing 2-4 times a month like myself, you should go play else where without all the constructions and aerations.
Played on 5/12 around noon time and the course was superslow. Had to wait on every tee box and made the turn after 3 hours. Weather was nice and overcast and the beautiful views made up for slow play. The tee box was nice and tight, fairways coming around and mostly green with some thin spots, rough is decent considering drought conditions and mostly playable, and the greens are almost healed from recent aeration with aeration marks barely visable but did not affect putts and rolled great. The greens ran about medium and faster downhill. Overall, always a good experience if you don't mind slow/crowded conditions. Buddy and I left after holing out 16th green cause 17th par-3 tee box was 3 deep, so we finished 16 holes just a little shy over 5 hours. Do I like waiting on tee box/shots? No. Would I play here again?? Absolutely.
Played Sat 12/5 early morning as a single joining 3 other nice people with glow ball the first 3 holes. POP was 4 hour walking the course on a beautiful morning and done before 10 a.m. to go home and enjoy late breakfast with family. I love early morning golf, okay, not really, but I do like morning golf.. after the sun come up without glow ball. I still had a blast and would play that early with glow ball if I didn't have a tee time like yesterday as a walk on.
The golf course is beautiful, the views of the ocean I meant. The course itself looks and plays pretty beaten up. I played last week and the greens were fast and smooth, but what happed in just 1 week?!? Looks like they dusted the greens with sand earlier this week even though they were aerated 3-4 weeks ago. I love this course and is my home course so it pains me so see people not repairing their ball marks on the green. I probably fixed 1/2 dozen marks on each green as I walked around to survey my putting line. The greens putted and held their line pretty decent but very quick on all downhill putts. Tee box and bunkers are always good here. Fairway had decent coverage with thin spots but playable. Rough is bad to non-existent due drought so no complaints here as I rather want them to water the fairway and greens and sacrifice the rough with water rations. Did I mention the views already?.. simple a fantastic!

Played on 7/29 as a single at 9:40 and POP was just over 4 hours with minimal waiting on about 1/3 of the holes. My course rating would be higher but for drought conditions, but the greens were in good condition rolling nicely about medium in the morning and getting little faster as the day wore on. Tee boxes are always good and level since the renovation 2-3 years ago. Bunkers were nice and fluffy. Fairways were decent given the drought conditions with some thin lies but very playable, but roughs were brutal so hitting straight is a must for scoring well here. One of the perks for playing at LV is the weather as it is probably 10-15 degrees cooler playing along the coast compared to inland and valley areas.
Played early morning on 2/12 as a single and enjoyed my quiet round with mother nature's creatures. I always make an effort to play this course as I love what Ko Olau has to offer. Jungle golf is a good way to describe this place as well as the "softer" Royal Hawaiian golf course. Ko Olau is playable but difficult course if you do not hit straight. I only lost 4 balls today playing from the white tees (still 140+ slope) rather than my usual blue or back tees. POP was just under 3 hours soaking in the majestic beauty of the course and bunch of "selfies" photo opportunities, but could have played in 2 hours easily.
As for course conditions, the tees were level and good, fairways were fine with a mixture of grass/weed but this adds to the jungle ambience, roughs were short and playable but anything beyond the roughs were lost balls to the jungle forest. The greens looks excellent as you approached them but were a bit grainy with lots of pitch marks and played medium/slow. I left the first 3 or 4 holes very short on my first putts but once I dialed in the speed, I drained several nice 10-15 footers. I love this course will continue to come back again next time.

Stayed in Ko Olina all week but didn't have time to play any golf until Thursday. Played twilight here at 3:30 with my son (kids play for free at 3pm) on 2/12. I played as a single with my son teeing off with his little driver, then picking up his ball and drop it on the greens to putt. It was a good father/son outing with my 7 year old.
Course conditions were good all around but the greens had a bunch of unrepaired pitch marks. I guess you have to deal with that during twilight play. Fairways were not lush green in color but play just fine with good roll outs. Had a wonderful time here and will play again.

Played yesterday 11/12 @little past noon as a single walking. Nobody on deck and couldn't see anyone for 1st couple holes. Burn through the first 4 or 5 holes until I caught up to another single (Dave) who was kind enough for me to join him while he waited on a par-3 to clear. Front-9 was slow for the next 4 holes until we made the turn and pace of play sped up while waiting just a few minutes on a handful of holes, but nothing too bad. Finished in about 4 hours and had a great time shooting the breeze with Dave who was a local retiree. Fun course overall on a leisure wednesday afternoon. As for course conditions, tees were nice and level, fairways still rather green for this time of year when it starts to go dormant but you can start to see the colors changing a little bit. Roughs were decent, but the greens were rolling nice and smooth and fast, but not too fast, about 10.5ish. If putting downhill, it can get away from you pretty fast. Other than the stiff afternoon winds (10-15 mph getting stronger as the afternoon wore on to 15-20mph and stronger gusts), it was an absolutely nice day of golfing. Will come and play here again when I am in this area.
Had the chance to play this morning at 11:30 as a single and finished in 3 hours flat. Course didn't seem too busy but I did play through a handful of groups kind enough to let me through until the last 3 holes, or else would have finished in 2 1/2 hours. The course is generally in good playing condition for a muni course and would definitely play again, from the correct tee next time. I played from the blues without looking at the scorecard and thought to myself, either I am hitting it long off the tees or the warm dry high altitude coors field air was carrying my drives a loooong ways, leaving me with very short approach shots, shorter than usual. Not until the turn at the 10th did I realize the blues only played 6,200+ and that I should have played from the tips (gold I think) which plays about 6,600+ yards. Oh well, live and learn. But I am gonna convince myself that it was my excellent ball striking off the tees for leaving short approach shots... and that's my story and I am gonna stick with it!
The tee box were in good condition and level for the most part. Fairways were green, in good condition and ran out a decent amount. Roughs were in good condition, not penal and easy to hit out of. Some of the rough areas had brown grass that gave it a good contrast to the green fairways. The bunkers were raked in a good condition but the 2 that my ball landed in seemed a little damp but playable. Greens were nice with little to no ball marks, but had some residual sand on them though it didn't affect putting. It ran medium and held shots well. It was a gorgeous day with slight breeze to off set the warm sunny golfing weather. I would definitely play there again, from the correct tees, when I am in Palmdale/Lancaster area.

Played 5/6 at 9:00 am as a 2-some and the other 2-some never showed up (maybe due to 20% chance of rain??) so we played leisurely sandwiched between 4-somes to our delight. What a nice day of golf with light winds with partly cloudy skies and POP at 4:15. Course was looking and playing very nice and everything starting to look green. Tee box were for the most part nice and level, fairways were good with some brown areas, rough were getting thicker, but the greens need a little bit more time to heal. Greens are very playable but a bit bumpy at times with occasional squirrely puts. A week or two more and a good roll should have them running like a champ. Unfortunately, it was a little bit slow for my taste as I like them rolling medium fast.
Overall the course is looking pretty good and it should get better with each passing week. I ended up making par on all the par-3s, including the monster long par-3 as it was "ONLY" playing 230ish yards today from the blues. I don't know about the rest of you but I feel that the front 9 on the Babe is the most difficult 9-hole of this 36-hole facility. The back-9 gets a little easier as it opens up a bit but that front 9 had my butt kicked when I missed the fairway. I kept on hitting those d%mn over-hanging tall palm trees that seems to always "lean" in the direction of my approach shots, slapping my ball away from the green. I swear those palm trees moved, but I digress... But get out and play this course and take advantage of the special they have going on the Babe course.

Played early afternoon round on 4/2. Course is in pretty decent shape overall except for rough. It's a county course so don't expect lush rough, but adequate. The greens were in great condition but little on the slow side. It was little bumpy since it was in the afternoon with footprints and spike marks from normal wear throughout the day. The tee box appeared to be recently punched but very playable. I would give this course a higher rating but the rough conditions lowers the average. A solid 7 out of 10 but for the rough.
