Played Wednesday, 5/31. Teed off at 7:15 and finished in 3h 35min as a twosome. Thanks to the two 5somes that let us play through on holes 5 and 8. After that smooth sailing to the finish. The greens were in good condition running medium/fast speed and held shots. A two foot wide area around the greens were roped off due to pesticide application. There openings in the ropes for golfers to walk onto the green. The ropes didn't really affect play other than visual. I do not know how long the ropes will remain in place. The fairways were in good condition.The rough was low and did have some thin/bare spots but was overall good. The bunkers were in good condition including the fairway bunkers. The tee boxes were mostly good with some minor unlevelness. Skylinks is an enjoyable course that plays mostly straight forward. The green complexes provide the biggest challenge for the course. The staff was friendly.

I'm on a quest this year to go back to all of the courses from my early playing days 4-5 years ago and break 100 on each where I failed to do that. Today was that day at Skylinks, so Kassper7 and I hit the sticks with an 8am tee time, walking for $60, and paired with a very nice Lithuanian-American father and son duo. I honestly did not remember much about Skylinks from my first visit but will certainly have a much better memory of it now after playing a far superior round and really enjoying the course in a much more sophisticated manner. It's actually in very nice condition right now and well worth that walking rate. Greens are just a delight to play on and, with the exception of few little ball marks here and there, were very good surfaces to putt from, rolled very true, were fun and tricky, and also held well-struck shots very well. Really nice. The fairways have great coverage as well with barely any bad lies all day, unless after a poor tee shot I found myself under any of the many trees where the surfaces got rather thin and/or mulchy. Rough was in nice shape as well, easy to hit from mostly. Tee boxes were great - flat, level, lush and easy to get your tee into every time. If there was a 'low' point it was the bunkers, but they weren't at all bad. Easily playable, just not the super fluffy kind you love at top courses. But again, just nit-picking here. One little thing to note - is there any reason the driving range fence can't be a little higher on the side that allows a thousand range balls onto the early part of the fairway on the 10th hole? Just make it higher! The layout is much more fun than I remember the first time, but I will always find the first hole rather 'meh.' It's a 200 yard layup before the lake guarding the green and personally I just don't find it ideal with a cold start. But again, that's just me. The rest of the course is very challenging, and they certainly don't making reaching the par 5s in two easy with all of the bunkers guarding those second shots - layups are the name of the game here. All in all a very fun round and happy to report that Skylinks is now OFF the 'need to break 100' list ... unfortunately there are still quite a few more that need fixin'!

This is my favorite course of the 5 local Long Beach courses. Skylinks is consistently in good condition and well kept. They have many tournaments here, including CIF high school championships coming up. The course was in great condition, as per usual. Not long, unless you play from the tips (6909). The course is challenging, but not frustrating. There are several risk reward holes, most notably number 15, a sharp dog leg left. No need to cut the corner too sharp in my opinion, a nice draw will put you right in position A. My favorite holes are 16, 17, and 18. 16, a par 3 over water (into the wind in the afternoon). 17 the second hardest handicap hole on the course, plays long and straight. Tree lined on both sides with OB on the left, you want to keep it straight, but you have to hit a nice long drive to have a nice approach into this 433 yd par 4. 18 is just a pretty hole to come into the clubhouse on with water to your left making it a challenging, yet fun approach shot. Practice areas are well kept, driving range off the grass on Tuesday/Wednesdays.

It's a fairly interesting course considering how flat it is. Lots of doglegs and some very sharp to keep the course from being too boring.

The course was in pretty good, but not great shape.

Tee boxes were mostly level and had good grass, but there were a lot of unrepaired divots.

Fairways were greening up and were more lush than they looked. There was good coverage sans a few small areas.

Rough was hit or miss. Has grass in some areas, mostly dirt in others.

Bunkers were in good shape, had good sand, not too fluffy.

Greens has a lot of unrepaied ball marks that made putting a little adventurous. Very little signs of aeration about a month ago. If you had a line where there was no pock marks the ball rolled well and true.

I found a single $54 walking tee time via Golfzing on Sat for Sun, 6:44am, so I jumped on it ... with a goal to be home by noon for the Masters (same with my playing partners, good peeps=fun round). Off on time but, again, W/E PoP was a dismal 4:40. No rant this time, but for those who play early and slow, see my review for Tijeras Creek on 4/7/17. The course is in overall good shape. Bermuda is starting to green up a bit and the fairways have full cover as does the near non-existent rough. Good rollout for my driver is also good for my golf ego. Greens were rolling at a medium pace, really nice to putt on with no signs of recent aeration. Was in a few G/S bunkers which were in very playable condition and maintained. Was sorry to see the previous review, very unhappy camper. For sure, a late round at one of the LB muni's means slow PoP. Just gotta suck it up or play somewhere else. My experience was not nearly the same, I enjoyed the course and group I was paired ... will return.

1:40 to play the first 4 holes. I quit.. I've had enough, Long Beach golf has gone way downhill. The course gets worse and worse each time I come. They seem to always be doing some sort of maintenance they don't tell you about. The guys in the pro shop, while adequate in that they can do the job, have zero personality and don't do anything to better the experience. They lie too about pace of play or when you'll get out. I showed up .. we can put you out at 11:15, I'm actually teeing off at 11:50. First hole, not bad, second tee? Group just tee'd off, another group waiting, and then us. No marshal in sight .. It rained days ago yet most bunkers are flooded. All this for $50+. For just a few bucks more you can play Black Gold, or Industry Hills. You can even make it to Riverside, have a leisurely round, and make it back in the time it takes to play here now. This used to be my go to place in Long Beach, but no longer. This place sucks now.

Had a chance to play Sky Links on Sat 1/7/17 and jumped on it with Gregholla and his girlfriend. We were paired with a two some. Pace of play was surprisingly decent as were one of four back to back fivesomes. Course was in good shape and looking to be improving with each rain. Fairways rolled very well and you could really stretch out well hit drives. As far as layout of the course it was really fun to be able to take some risk by cutting corners on dog leg holes if you could get the distance. Greens were soft but rolled true and at a medium speed. Bunkers were nice fluffy white sand and some proved to be pretty challenging with depth. All and all I really enjoyed this course. The only thing I would say was negative was the price even after finding a hot deal round cost were near $50. If it were a little nicer i wouldn't hesitate to play more often as the course is really fun.

Gratis round via Golfzing at Skylinks 12/22. Arrived early, found it drizzling and very few brave soles going out. I had all my battle gear on, lived under the umbrella, and braved it with another single, off at 7:30. Sloshed thru the front side well under 2 hours after a slow 2-some bailed after 6 holes. Played the back solo (the other guy was not wearing rain pants, big mistake), luckily, not a drop fell after #12. Finished in 4 hrs which included a 15 minute bagel/coffee break between nines. The entire course was casual water but with the mounds and uneven fairways, it was not difficult finding some semi-dry turf to play from. Well thought out drainage system here, unlike El Dorado which turns into a giant pond when it rains. Greens were not puddling, thank goodness, and rolled very well which helped to keep me going. [Funny: I heard what I thought was heavy lightning right behind me ... turned and saw a 50 ft. tree uprooting and crashing to the ground. Anyone under that bad boy would have been pancaked.] Skylinks is not a difficult course with parallel fairways and spaced trees, so even errant tee balls are still 'in play'. A scorer's paradise. Consider using Golfzing to get zing points when booking. You can even book as a 'walker' which you can't do using GolfNow. Bad side is course selection is narrow.

Teed off at 7am on Friday morning and finished in 4:05. Found a $45 w/ cart deal on Golf Now(+ $2.50 GN fee). The Greens were in good condition. They rolled fairly smooth with medium/fast speed and held shot. The Bermuda fairways had good coverage with a few thin spots and played tight. The rough was low and patchy in spots. The bunkers were in good condition. The Tee boxes were fair to good. The course layout has a decent amount of variety with challenging green complexes. Keep in mind the ball will roll more than you think on tight Bermuda fairways. The staff was friendly.
