Decided to play in spite of poor last comments about course due to the $32.50 Saturday rate I found. Definitely a disappointment due to thin, hard packed fairways and greens. Rough was non-existent and appeared to be almost the same as the fairway. If you like to hit off of hardpan then this course is for you.... if you like your ball to sit up when you are in the fairway then steer clear of this course. The sand (lots of traps everywhere), tee boxes and time to complete the round were nice but they paled to the poor fairways and greens. It was cold and windy but I knew that when I signed up for the tee time. Even at the discounted rate I would stay away from this course unless you can hit off of hard packed fairways and greens that don't hold your approach shots. Good Luck!

Have not played here since Thanksgiving weekend. The greens are in excellent shape compared to Nov. Need to have players to repair ball marks more routinely. Fairways are not green this time of the year with the Bermuda grass. Very challenging undulating greens especially when in good shape. Nice course, not very crowded probably due to it's higher green fees compared to the other Long Beach courses.

Great improvement to the course - great challenge from back tees, especially if windy! I was very disappointed with the condition of the greens though- they were very spotty and my group almost implemented the auto 2 putt rule. I was very surprised that greens that were only 1.5 years old could be so poor- people just don't fix their ball marks!

Played here 02/17/06. Even after hearing all the negative feedback about this place I still had to give it a shot since I had not played here since it was redone. What a mistake. This place was terrible at best. Greens were slow, bumpy and uncut. Fairways were OK. The only changes I could see to this boring track were the addition of some bunkers and mounds in the greens that were plain unfair in some spots. The worst part was that it was $55 to play here. Save some cash by going to El Dorado or Recreation Park. In my opinion The City of Long Beach wasted $8 million on this place.

I teed off Wednesday at 6:45 and played in just under 4 hours. I agree with the previous reviewer who wrote the brown color is due to the grass being dormant. Sure the fairways are tight but they are not in bad shape. I wonder if those who do not like the fairways have a difficult time hitting from tight lies. I was amazed at how bad the ball marks were on the greens. Ball marks aside the greens rolled well. The greens will not hold a shot. Even wedge shots release a few feet. If you play this course allow your shot room to release to the pin. For those who dont hit high long irons, hybrids, or woods you should land short of the greens and let the ball release onto the greens. The rest of the course is in good shape. The starter was very friendly and the maintenance crews were courteous to golfers hitting shots. BUT, the posted green fees are too high. I played on an internet special for $32.50 with cart. Well worth the fee. The posted fee is $56 with a cart on a weekday (non Long Beach resident). Not worth the fee. If I want to spend $50-$60 on green fees I will drive to the inland-empire and play one of many courses that are better (a few are much better) than Skylinks. The Long Beach resident green fees are reasonable ($9-$12 less than what is posted on Greenskeeper). Non residents, find those discounts. I would definately play it again for less than $45 with a cart. Well, thats my 2 cents.

Reports of the death of Skylinks have been greatly exaggerated. I played Monday, February 6, at 9:30 and got around in a little under 4 1/2 hours. From tee to green, the course is in fine condition for February. The greens are still a little thin, and require extra care. This means that players who know how to fix ball marks the right way will have to fix a few extra for the lazy, sloppy or uneducated golfers.
I suspect the reason for most of the negative feedback recently has had more to do with the higher green fees since the re-loop.
Also, a lot of players blame the greens when they putt poorly. If you can play this course without at least one three putt, you are a fine iron player or a great putter... or both.

As for compacted mud with holes for greens, some times there is some mantince that has to be done and the course is open all day everyday 365days a year so they can't make everyone happy. You may ask why not over seed, well check out the poster in the proshop and it will explain why? STRONGER BERMUDA IN THE WARMER MONTHS AND KEEP IT PURE BERMUDA. Why when something is not green green green there is something wrong, as for the staff being sent to jail for the high greens fee they r set by the city not the staff. And by many peoples mouths skylinks has the best staff in the city, very friendly and go well above the standard.

LAKEWOOD, BIG REC, OR EL DORADO ARE 100 TIMES BETTER THEN THIS CRAP AND AT HALF THE PRICE.
