Played on 5/8/2009, Had not stepped foot on a golf course (nor a driving range for that matter) since last October. Westlake is a good course to return to action. It is reasonably easy course with a couple of tough holes. Can practice short irons and short game on most holes.

Pace of play was excellent. Played 18 holes in less than 3 1/2 hours.

I thought the course was in pretty good shape. Greens were smooth and consistent in their pace. Fairways were nicely groomed. Only real complaint was that the tee boxes were slightly not level on every hole.

Also, green fees are with a cart was $42.00 - a little high for an executive course.

I knew that I was playing an "executive" course, so my expectations were pretty low, but I had an enjoyable round. As long as you know what you are signing up for, this is a fun little course. Although I hit driver-sand wedge on almost all the par 4's, there were a couple challenging par 4's and the par 3's were well-designed and no pushover. The greens were actually very good. Played Super Twilight and easily the best (and cheapest) $14 I've ever spent for golf. Played in 2.45 hours and finished at dark. Fun course to work on your scoring. To just relax and hopefully make some birdies, this is a pretty good place to do both.

Played today for the first time after a forced 5 month layoff due to injury. I don't what happened in that time, because this course is totally different than I when last I played. First: The tee boxes all seem very uneven. It was often difficult to get a flat lie. I did find an even lie on the 12th hole. I had my ball teed up, then a greenskeeper drove up, picked up the teemarkers where my ball was teed, moved them back about 3 yards, then drove away without a word. I could find no flat lie in the new location.

The fairways were prety good, but the greens were not as I remember them. It is as if pitchforks/divot tools are banned or something. Unfixed ball marks everywhere. Some fresh, some old. It made putting all but impossible. It was never like that before. Maybe the clientele changed, but the greens were truly awful. Slow, bumpy and full of pitch marks. Really sad. I am hoping that this was a one-time-only occurrence. I do plan on playing there again soon. I really hope things change.

The people at Westlake are still top notch.

The bad: fairways, greens and tee boxes in average condition. It seems they do not care.

I used to like to play Westlake, even though it is an executive course. I am not so sure anymore.

Note: They turned 17 into a par three from a par four, and 18 into a par four from a par three.

Played the course on Saturday morning 8/16 with a 6:52 tee time as a twosome and the starter didn't have anybody playing with us. Finished the round in a little under 4 hours, and for a Sat. morning I was pleased with that. The course was in good shape for the most part however many of the tee boxes weren't level. The one sand trap I was in played very nice. I like the changes made to holes 17 and 18, but think that if something was going to be done wouldn't it have been possible to add some length to the back nine as there are four par 3's. It was a fun round and I will be back, it's a great way to tune up your short game if nothing else without having to go the the local pitch and put.

We have played this course every week in a twilight league for the past 5 months.

During that time they have been working on the back 9 and just this week opened the new holes 17 (Par 3 with a newly constructed green) and 18 (Par 4 with a new tee box and diagonal fairway leading to the same green as before).

This does make the finish a little different than the old #18 and I did have the honor this week of a birdie-birdie finish playing them for the first time.

This course gets a lot of play and can be trouble with the proliferation of tree roots but keeping it in the short stuff always helps. Not a huge challenge but great practice for the approach shots and close to the 101 freeway.

They just punched holes in the greens so putting is quite a challenge at the moment with an aeration hole about every 4 inches. The fairway on #3 looks like a quilt with various patches all over the place. With the greens the way they are right now it's probably better to wait a week or two before trying to seriously putt during your round.
