A rare, last minute weekend day of golf for me. I had limited time so I went to Westlake. The fairways have looked better, the tee boxes are lush but uneven, and they could still use some marshalling. Other than that, it's still a great place to work on your game around some great people.

Typical condition right now. One exception is the greens which are a little quicker, a little smoother and more consistent than they typically are.

Played 11/3 with a 1:52 tee time, the starter gave us the TW rate even though it wasn't technically TW yet, which most courses wouldn't have done. The course was in great shape minus the tee boxes being a little uneven, and having some divot damage. The greens were soft and held the approach shots nicely, but with the short distances and going in with lofty clubs that is to be expected. A good time was had and I will be back..

Played 10/31 after a long break. The course is is great shape, and the greens are 100% recovered from the punch. Plenty of grass and the results of their recent tree reduction are showing. There's a lot of grasss where dirt used to be. The back tees were closed as they are in the last stages of growing in from being re-seeded. They are lush and gorgeous, but still severely uneven. It looks as if they just put down seed and didn't grade at all. Uneven teeing areas would be the #1 issue for me facing this course. Other than that, it was just the usual really slow group or 2 with Marshals nowhere to be seen. Still a fun track and great course to work on your game. The People are top notch.

note: the Driving Range's back fence was destroyed by wind during those freak Santa Ana's. They want everything to be kept to less than 200 yards, so no hitting drivers.

Played Saturday afternoon, just before Twilight. Although the green fee drops almost 50%, I correctly guessed that I could get past the hoard and play a relaxing solo round. Greens obviously sanded recently, but remain playable. This is a short course, but great place to work on your game. Only real drawback were the tee boxes; many of them were uneven and lacked fill on par threes. Overall, a nice quick practice round.

Got out early due the the heat. Apparently everyone else had the same idea and we waited from the 4th hole on. Still got around in just over 4 hours. The course was in good sahpe, but wet as it is ... Continue »

Got out early due the the heat. Apparently everyone else had the same idea and we waited from the 4th hole on. Still got around in just over 4 hours. The course was in good sahpe, but wet as it is being heavily watered due to heat. Greens were quite soft and slow, but good. Tee boxes are rapidly becoming an issue as they seem to be getting even more noticeably uneven and thin. Flat, grassy lies are becoming scarce on the tee box. All things considered, it's still a great place to work on your game, and the staff is absolutely top notch.

Played on Monday 8/27/07 at 1:30 p.m. Played 18 holes in under 3.5 hours. Greens were a bit slow and many ball marks. Otherwise course in pretty good condition.

This is a fun executive course which allows you to work on short game and course management.

Course in good shape for the summer. Greens in good condition, fairways in typical Westlake shaoe (OK), rough non existant, and sand in good shape. Tee boxes tend to get either bare or shaggy.

Never my first choice, but I don't mind going out to Westlake every once in a while.

Out early Aug 9th; been over a year since played. Conditions virtually the same as I remembered. Understand why people enjoy this course and we had fun navigating our way through as well. Greens were extremely receptive, fairways were in very good shape [no GUR, good lies on almost every spot].
For the dew sweepers benefit, here are a few suggestions:
- would be nice to have the greens mowed before we got there [we were the 4th group out]. Probably 50% were untouched.
- a bit more maintanence on the tee boxes would be good, esp with so many short par 4's + par 3's. Shaggy tee boxes not so nice.
- if we book a tee time, book it. I made the time 6 days previous. The proshop had nothing for us when we showed up. It being so early made it OK for us to get out, but there was a point for requesting the time we did.

A reasonable alternative to Mtn View - but in the end I'd take the peace and quiet in Santa Paula [although I've never gone as low over there as I did today at WL].
