I played here last Sunday, June 29th with my friend who was free for the "evening" and reached out to me asking if I wanted to play a round. He was busy until around 5:10 and so we got to Woodley at 5:35 and got on at 5:50. We, by some miracle and knowing the course quite well, still got 18 holes. There was a twosome on one when we pulled up so we passed them and started on two. We then caught up to a foursome when we hit 8's green and passed them on 9 going straight to 10. Then, after 12 we went back to 9 as the 12th green and 9th tee are adjacent; and then played 1. From there, we went back to 13 and resumed the rest of our round. We finished at 8:40, for a 2:50 round.

I was surprised by how good of condition the fairways were in, and the rough here was penalizing as I remember it to be at Woodley. I've always thought the rough here is more penal because it is so wide open, whereas at the other two courses within the triplex (as we call it) are more tree-lined.

I also noticed they made four tees here, with the whites and blues moving up and there being blacks at the tips. The red was also replaced with yellow, and moved up in some instances as well.

I don't think I was in sand at all so I can't comment on that, but I will say that the greens were overall in above average condition. Speed-wise, they were fast for LA muni standards and were still on the fast side for what I would have expected. I had a couple putts with a little bounce, but overall it was in good shape. And for 39 bucks for two people to ride and get 18 in in under three hours on a Sunday afternoon/evening, what more could we ask for?

Oh, and the sunset was out of this world 360 degrees everywhere we looked for a good 20 minutes.

Teed off at 8:15 am on Saturday 6/14. Figured it would be a long day for Father's Day weekend, but although the tee sheet was full, there was very little waiting and we got around in just over 4 hours. This is a very walkable course with wide fairways. One of the three 18 hole courses set in the Sepulveda Dam recreation area, I find Woodley Lakes more interesting than Balboa and easier to play than Encino. The greens were in great shape and rolled true if not particularly speedy. As is usual for the muni courses, the fairways were hit and miss. For the most part, the fairways were clean and very playable. You do tend to get a mixtures of grasses and clumps once in while. Traps had good sand and were a little crispy. Tee boxes were very good. The rough appeared to have been recently mowed and was very playable. It was a little warm, but no refreshment cart came around. Always bring some water to the muni courses. I was very pleased at how the course looked/played and almost didn't feel bad about spending $40 to walk. Almost. But I enjoy this course and will play it again.

Staff is nice. 4.5 hour round, course was busy. Hot, breezy day. NO MORE BAR! No beer available, just water, soda and chips. It's no LACC North (which I was lucky enough to play last week as a guest) but it's pushing 80 degrees in January and I'm not shoveling snow ... so life is good.

Played a hungover New Year's Day round here in perfect weather. Had never played here before and understood it to be a very beginner friendly course. I could see that but I hit the ball so terribly all day it felt a lot tougher, but all my fault.

I would describe this course as spectacularly uninspiring. It's flat and dull, but water all over does break some of the monotony. The fairways are very wide but currently very yellow and the whole place just looks kind of bored. Tee boxes weren't great, traps were thin, and the massive greens - well, at least they're in decent shape.

I think $40 to walk the course is a bit crazy. I will go back some day when my game is better to capitalize on the wide open spaces, but not until conditions are better. Don't think a better deal will be there to find though unless it's midweek.

Played a Rancho Mens Club match play Sat 7am- done in little over 4 hrs. HOT.

Fairways in very good shape. Overwatered in spots but due to heat- just a few bare spots.

Rough 2", thick. Ball drops, buried. 1/2 stroke penalty to get out.

Tees fine, flat. Not in sand so no comment.

Layout flat, long, boring. Big greens, wide fairways. Not on rotation but in a pinch ok. Mid $40's to walk way too much. At least goose dropings cleaned off near clubhouse.

Greens big, smooth, fast, true. Can't ask for better.

Added bonus was playing w/RPMC member former MLB Jerry Royster- great guy, long.

Got out on Memorial Day & POP was good @ 4 1/2hrs.

Bunkers were perhaps the worst I've seen in awhile-hard & crusty, some even had animal burrows in them, but they seemed to have enough sand to where the club didn't bounce.
Greens are the highlight of the course-they were in amazing shape. I can only remember one hole with slight signs of aeration. Surprisingly there were a couple of greens that didn't quite roll smooth even though they looked great. Greens were pretty slow though.
Overall I have to say playing this course wasn't very exciting; fortunately I wasn't expecting much to begin with. Hole #5 is perhaps the easiest golf hole I will ever play in my life. Woodley is a great place to work on your game-the lakes almost never come into play, all of the holes have extremely wide fairways, & perhaps the only "challenge" is that many of the greens are elevated slightly.

The greens were in good condition, running true and medium fast. The fairways are looking better than the last time I played here, though they were trim and hard. Rough was certainly more penal than before, but not more than 3". Tee boxes were fairly level and lush. Bunkers had good sand, but some were crunchy. Hole #1 is under repair, so all tees are bunched together; the blues are pushed forward a good 30 - 40 yards. With the wind behind you, a big hitter could drive the green. This is a fun course requiring little imagination. What you see is what you get; wide open fairways, a couple of slight doglegs and large greens. While not a test, it is a great course to work on your game. Enjoy!

Played on President's Day. Holiday rates are the same as weekend rates. So know that resident rates are $54 with a cart. There are many nicer courses available at that price point.
However, if you don't mind poor conditions with wide open fairways to work on your game, this is your place. Pace of play was fine at just over 4 hours. The course appears to have been mowed by a team of tractors that only stopped around the greens & tee boxes. There was virtually no rough to be found on the entire course. The fairways were very thin. The only good reward for a fairway drive was a looong roll. Most shots within 100 yards were hard pan. The greens were in decent shape, rolling true, but at a medium/slow pace (like all greens in the Sepulveda Dam golf complex). Sand traps were fairly hard allowing you to pick the ball clean. Only other thing: Strike a deal with your playing partners allowing you to lift / clean / place balls that roll through goose crap!
