Played Woodley today in a little over 4.5 hours. Course was steadily busy but kept a reasonably consistent pace. Basically, refer to the previous posting and not too much more to add. Fairways were parched—thin, firm, and dry, but not many actual bare spots. Visually, they are splotchy with mix of dry and green areas. If you don't mind playing off tight lies, you'll get a lot of roll and the greens are good. In my opinion, based on observation and only a little direct experience, the bunkers were also pretty good—not fluffy, but generally smooth and raked with decent sand. It ain't a resort, but if you "know before you go" it can enjoyable enough if your expectations are appropriately calibrated. I enjoyed it.

Played 3/4/12 - very dry fairways. Lots of brown spots. If you hit a decent drive and kept it straight it would run and run. Greens were pretty good. Played on Sunday and we waited on every tee on the front 9, then the group ahead of us left and the back 9 opened up.
$40 seems expensive for this very open and wide course that's in OK condition for the winter. All of the LA City courses are this price so there's been a bit of grumbling. Now that daylight savings will kick in this wknd I can wait & play later & pay less.

Played Sunday morning; third group out at oh-dark-thirty (7:00 a.m.). A little dark on the first hole; I don't know how the jack rabbits can see. First group out was three ahead of us easy. The course is in fair condition. Greens felt a little on the slow side, but having just played at Angeles National just two days ago made for a learning curve here. Hole one green had some spots of dead grass, but rolled fine. It looks like it is recovering from some kind of fungus. Hole four was bumpy all over; looks like a different kind of fungus got this one. Other than that, the remainder of the course was decent. I did not notice any severe ball marks on greens. Fairways seemed to be cut low and dried out as the day progressed. One thing to note: you want to STAY OUT OF THE ROUGH! It was brutal. Hard to hit the ball out of 3 to 5 inches of wet fescue. We had trouble finding a couple of balls. Sand traps had decent sand, but were not well maintained. The pro shop looks like they are closing, because it was nearly empty. Someone said this is their last day. Nice practice areas with a bunker area, large putting green, pitching green, and grass range. Pace of play was stellar at 3:50 walking. Cost to play was $40 walking (resident rate; out of area is $5 more).

Played Mon 6/27 as single walk on. $33 with push cart. Nobody in front or behind me, so played 18 in under three hours, teeing of mid-day. Caught up to another single at 9th, but he didn't want to pair up, so played right through.

Staff friendly. Fairways good, rough needs to be mowed - seemed a little deep, greens in above average shape. I'm still surprised that people leave huge ball marks - that's just poor etiquette.

Course is pretty wide open, so not overly difficult, but fun. Hot in the valley - bring water, no beverage cart.

Will return, well worth the price for a muni.

Well...if you can believe it...I have been a SoCal golfer for over 40-years...I've lived in the SFV, too...and I have played uncountable rounds at Balboa and Encino...but I had never played Woodley Lakes until last week when I was back in the U.S. for an annual home-visit. It's not much of a challenge....very flat...super-wide fairways that you could land a 747 on! But what it lacks in terrain...it makes up for in length. There are some honest par-4's that will stretch the short-hitter. It's a good-looking course, but it has the typical City-course problems - thin-spots and hardpan on virtually every hole. Now as for the greens, they were pretty nice! So much nicer than those we have in India...so maybe I'm biased...they were plenty smooth and fairly fast and beautiful to look at. The greenskeepers here know what they are doing! If and when I come back to live...I'll play it again!

Played Woodley Lakes 02/24/11, dismal conditions.The fairways are so spotty,it just goes to show what lack of maintenance breeds, no fall maintenance in 2010, now we have a course that can't stand-up to some minor inclement weather. But I will give credit were credit is due, the greens are very good.

I played on 12/11/2010 and the course already looks like it's been through the dead of winter most of the grass looks dormant if it's actually grass my playing partner and I lost 3 balls less than 5 yards of the fairway due to all of the leaves and debris we almost lost a fourth 1 yard off of the fairway on number 10 I can't imagine what condition this course will be in by the end of February if it is this bad now there were areas in the fairway that were muddy and mushy and 20 feet away it would be as hard as a rock the good news is the greens were in great shape as they usually are at Woodley it would be nice if the rest of the course was half as nice as the greens, maybe by the end of spring this course will be playable.

Not the most challenging of courses, but still a nice golf experience. Greens are always in good shape. Course was over watered. Very mushy in some areas. Still good basic golf.
