Got out for a quick 9 holes mid-morning on Friday 11/3 as a single. Completed 9 holes in about 1.75 hours, taking my time to work on some things. Woodley is very playable right now. The fairways are decent with plenty of good lies. A couple of tee boxes were a bit rough but, for the most part, were fine. The rough is somewhat spotty. With some good coverage and some bare areas. Not too long or penal. Some of the rough around the greens is Bermuda and really grabs your wedge on short chip shots. The last time I was here (about a month ago), the greens were very poor. They have improved greatly. They were smooth and medium fast, rolling very nicely. As a flat, wide open municipal golf course, Woodley provides a stress free round of golf at a low price. Right now, the conditions are good enough to enjoy a round here.

Played Woodley at 8am Monday, 10/2 as a foursome. We followed a very slow threesome. But still only took 4 hours to complete our round. Woodley is a very wide open forgiving course. For $20 walking as a senior it is a very good deal. The teeboxes were just fine. The fairways and rough are quite playable. They aren't exactly lush, but decent lies are there if you hit it in the fairway. The grass surrounding the greens is spongy and a challenge to hit from. The one disappointing part of the course is the greens. They were quite soft and receptive but they rolled painfully slow, were bumpy, and had many unrepaired ball marks. That aside, it's a fun, stress free morning of golf for $20.

8/25/17 the range is officially back open. I did not play the course but arrived within an hour of the range re opening and it's very nice. There's a good 30 yard deep strip of land where they can move the tees around. The hitting surfaces were providing great lies with good cushion -- maybe too much. From the back of the range is 300 yards. Similar to Rancho Park they put in artificial turf at the range, but unlike rancho the greens are slightly elevated and tilted from back to front for a good view of where your ball lands. The artificial turf on the greens seems to react better too. If you hit a ball well it doesn't bounce like it's hit concrete, they keep the spin and can stick to the greens.

We played this course back on Sunday April 9th. Played with my daughter and a HS golfer friend. Our first time at this course and we can honestly say we have never seen a course like that before. The course itself is not difficult. It is very flat and despite there being lakes on the course, remember the name of the course is Woodley Lakes, none of the lakes ever comes into play. Ditto with the bunkers. None of the green side bunkers ever comes into play because they were often at least 20 yards away from the greens. In fact, we didn't even notice the green side bunkers until we got to the green itself. We all shoot around 80 or under so we never found the sand unless it was in the fairway. The greenside bunkers were so far away that golfers were parking their carts between the greens and the bunkers! That said, the greens were rock hard and fairly fast. I know they were aerated shortly afterwards but if they get back to the conditions we experienced, they are quite acceptable. The fairways were okay. I didn't experience any bald spots but the grass was getting a little thin in spots. So the greens and fairways were fine, but, as mentioned, the course never puts any fear into you. I remember feeling rather anxiety free after a few holes. It was weird. In retrospect, we all should have scored better. The pace of play wasn't horrible for being in the middle of the city, probably around the 5 hour mark. They said they were redoing the driving range; the practice greens were okay; they even had what looked to be so so chipping areas although we never used them. If you want to take someone to boost their confidence, this course is it. I liked just taking out my driver and booming it. If Alondra closer to home had Woodley's greens and overall course conditions, I would play it frequently, but both courses suffer from uninspired course design and Woodley is a bit too far for us to want to play it again. My daughter decided she didn't want to play the tournament to be held there in May because she liked the challenge of another course playing on the same day. Nonetheless, if we wanted to go and give a friend a confidence boost, we wouldn't mind joining them.

Went out for a quick 9 holes on Wednesday afternoon. Great senior rate of $9.50 for 9 holes, walking. I was disappointed at the condition of the fairways. It doesn't appear that the rain we had this season made much of a difference. The fairways are thin and hardpan in areas. The coverage is a variety of grasses. Sometimes you would have a good lie in the fairway and sometimes it would be bad. Tee boxes and greens were in good shape. The greens were smooth and medium speed. Wasn't in any bunkers. So I can't speak to their condition. The rough is clumpy and inconsistent. I don't expect much from Woodley condition-wise. But I don't see a lot of difference between this year and last, even with all the rain we had.

Walk-on as single around 11:00 am, monday morning and the golf course fairly empty, so played as single and finished in 3-hours. Weather was little windy, but sunny, upper 60's and beautyful day for golf.
Woodley lake is flat and more like link style golf course. The course have lakes, but almost no water come to played. The greens Woodley is huge, smooth, medium/fast (today) and I believe best of L.A. city golf course. Fairways and tee boxes are lush and great condition, but bankers are hard pack. Overall the course is better condition I've played.

Played Woodley today with three friends with a 9:36 tee time. We were fortunate enough to go out ahead of a bachelor party group that seemed to never be close to us until late in the round. We played the blue tees.

Well, I guess if there's something nice to say, the greens are in really nice shape right now. Even minimal ball marks to contend with and the goose leftovers were down to a few strays. They putted at medium fast speeds and held shots quite well. And the guys in the pro shop were plenty nice and accommodating.

The rest is pretty much a disaster. Only once have I been to Woodley in worse shape. You step into a dried out tee box and look out onto a dried out, flat and uninspiring fairway. Every once in a while, you find yourself in a thin, unbearably poorly kept bunker. They're so thin no one bothers to rake.

And when you do find yourself either in the fairway or equally dried out rough, you have a 50/50 shot that your ball won't be in a terrible lie - thin, dirt, divots - you name it. I'be been to Woodley when it's somewhere nearing lush, and it's great fun to bombard the ample fairways all day. Today? A bit more depressing than exciting.

I know, I know - it's now winter and it's all going dormant and all that, but it is what it is - and that happens to be all kinds of awful right now. But I know Woodley will be in good shape again quick with some nice rains soon. I'll be back for sure, just as soon as I know things are better.

I can't remember how long it has been since I have played here. and....nothing has changed except the added black tee on number 12 par 3. The course is in good shape. There are dry spots here and there. But the course is holding up well in this drought. The greens roll well but are very slow. My game has been in shambles lately. I highly recommend playing a wide open course like Woodley to get some confidence back in your game when in a slump. I think I did that today. The tee shot on 2, 9, and the 2nd shot on 18 require a little accuracy but other than that its bombs away. Bombs away still swinging within yourself. I am very happy LA city courses have lowered their fees and eliminated resident rates. I did a $15 replay. My boycott of these courses is over.

Not much is expected of this course at the bottom of LA's public course list, but that means it gets a lot less play than the other offerings. Course was in overall better condition than I expected. Greens had a few unrepaired ball marks but were definitely playable. Fairways were pretty bare, except for the green goose poop. Tee boxes were also pretty bare, but they were level. There weren't any long waits, I was just playing really slow with my group today, so the pace was our own fault. A great course to knock it around with beginners with little trouble anywhere on the course. You get more than you think (expectations should still be pretty low)
