Played this track today and while it is nice, it is not one of the top courses around. Greens are too hard, and the grass on them isn't up to robinson or moorpark standards. The highway noise is also distracting. In my mind the course is almost overpriced, and given the super high heat today they definitely should have had more water available. . .

What can I say ? I dont feel that the front nine plays fair. The lines of the course are not defined, and I found it very difficult to know to where to direct my shots. It seems that whenever you hit the L Z's, you wind up in trouble, meaning that when you hit the center of the fairway, the ball tends to roll towards enviromental areas, rather then away which not only makes for alot of lost golf balls, but slows the round down tremendously because of golfers trying to retrieve their ball. The back nine plays much better. Although the greens are very hard, they're nice. I've been told it will take aproximatly two years to be seasoned, so that they will recieve a ball and hold it. Having said that, hit all your approach shots short and let them run on to the green, because they will not stop. The pace of play was ok, about five hours (?) to complete eighteen holes, and there were lots of enviromental nazis.

Great course after it grows in a bit more. Greens are still a bit sandy and will not hold anything. Speed is great, but it would be nice to shoot for some pins and not have to roll everything on. Environmental areas come into play alot, and if you can hit a straight tee shot, leave the driver in the bag. What's with the brown spots already? As this course matures, it will be awesome. Great layout, and challanging for everyone with the multiple tee boxes for different levels of play. A bit dissapointed with the pace! Rather pricey and tee times 10 minutes apart should have kept pace smooth, but we had to wait multiple times! Our tee time was 10:30am Friday. I would and will play it again. I look forward to knowing the layout and being able to fire at the pins.

Played on Sat. the 3rd and Sunday the 4th. First off, the course is in great shape, as it should be for just openning. The course is as advertised, desert style, target golf. Keep the driver in the bag most of the day. if the wind kicks up, look out, it will make this an even bigger challenge. The greens are where your score is going to balloon the most. It's all about position. Huge undulations on the greens. You've got to play the course a few times before you know where to position the ball, at the moment there are no yardage books and the GPS does not give the undulations of the greens. So far, the pace of play is slow, but that is probably due to the lack of knowledge and people looking for their golf balls. Should get better as the course matures.

I played Angeles National on Monday, July 5 for the first time. I had waited a long time for this course to finally open. While I thought that the courese was a fair challenge of my golfing skills, I was a little disappointed. Here are some of the things that need improvement.

1. Not being able to look for or retrieve an errant golf ball that lands in an "environmentally sensitive" area, even though the ball is in plain view is just not acceptable. I understand that the owner/developer had to make several compromises with the environmentalists in order to build the golf course, but this "rule" is going too far.

2. What's with the brown spots on the fairways? This course should be in top shape, and we have not had the really hot weather yet.

3. I understand the effort to have fast greens, but there has to be a compromise. Having shots that land on the front of the green run off the back is not fun.

4. They need to check the watering schedule for the bunkers. Hitting dirt or compacted sand on every bunker shot is not what I expect on an upscale course, and especially on a course that just opened.

5. While the staff was generally great, the ladies who operate the beverage carts need to be instructed so that they are not coming up behind groups when someone is teeing off.

On the positive side, I thought that the pace of play was great. I hardly had to wait on a shot the entire round. Perhaps this track just needs to mature.
