Played today in a nice POP of 3:45. Course was nice and green. I even found/noticed rough in many areas outside of some fairways and around many greens. Tee boxes excellent. Sand traps excellent. Fairways were playable and provided good lies and roll, though there was some bare areas, but mostly on the outside of the fairways. Some greens have returned completely from aeration, but there are some that still show aeration markings, but they putted and chipped very well (number 16/17 have some areas of fungus ?). Customer service excellent.

made the drive out here as i figured with them punching half the greens it wouldn't be as busy nor as slow as usual. first time out here, very nice feels like an american golf course, but just set in a nice location with some great views. customer service was friendly at checkin, teeoff was on time. nice large putting green but many holes were cut just a few feet from the edges. teeboxes were in very good condition. i heard they were all recently leveled, and mowed short. some normal divot damage but nothing significant. a lot of slopes in the fairways here and since the fairways were a bit spotty and drier, the ball would often run all the way from one side to the other. for the most part you had to aim for the left side of the fairway and it would run to the middle or the right. i was in one fairway and one greenside bunker, both of which had decent sand in them. greens were half punched, with the good half being punched a few weeks ago i think. they were on the way to healing up, still bumpy and slow and breaks are still affected. i guess everything generally breaks towards the ocean. pop was still about 4.5 hours or so despite the slower day and we had to wait on most holes. it was a fun round though with some nice views and i would recommend the course as long as the POP was kept in check.

Played today in 4 hours. They were doing the 2nd half of the greens today. The side that has been done, is healing but not real fast (and putting is not good). So it most likely will be at least 2 weeks before the greens are in good shape (IMO - no rating done today). Customer service excellent and no changes from my last posting on the rest of the course. So if good greens are not a requirement, than you will at least enjoy the rest of the course?

Played in the SCGA 1 day tournament this past Saturday (10/8). It might have been the nicest day ever to play this course as Catalina was in clear view. It was my first time playing here and I was a bit concerned about the half punched greens, but they have rolled nicely as the punched side still rolled well, showing just a few signs of aeration. The non aerated side was smooth and fairly quick, especially towards the ocean. Bunkers were very nice, had good white sand, and played heavier than they looked. Tee boxes were mostly level and weren't worn out on the par 3's, which I found surprising for a public course that gets a lot of play. It looks like they restrict watering at this course too. The fairways and the rough definitely showed it. Fairways were dry and firm with yellow to green grass, but no bare areas. The rough was either bare or dead grass. This made it tougher to play as the course has a lot of doglegs and a lot of slope. This means that if you land on the wrong side of the fairway, the ball was running off into the tree line, which was pine needles and dirt. It was a beautiful day with some amazing views, but this factor made it a little frustrating at times. I think this course has a few great holes and I'm certainly glad I got to check it off the list on such a nice day, but I'm in no rush to go back because of how dry it was. That being said. I would definitely go back after we get some rain.

Played today in a nice POP of 4 hours. Not much to add from last weeks review, except as I noted (greens in great shape - aeration ?) and it started today (as stated on GK so right on time). They will do the 2nd half of each green in 2 weeks. I will not rate the course today. Looks like aeration season is upon us, throughout S CA.

As most people mention, great place, great conditions, good greens, flat level tee boxes, fantastic ocean views.......but so SLOWWWWW. You have to know this and embrace this going into the round. I went out at 9:30am last Tuesday, and then around 1pm on Thursday. Both rounds over 5.5 hours, pushing closer to 6 hours. Getting to 14 & 15 late in the afternoon on a clear day is a great sight though!! Nice staff, good snack bar, and good course, just the POP is brutal. I love it, I hate it.....

Played today in a POP of 4 hours. Would have been less if the 4 in front of us played from the proper tees and did not putt out every putt (including the ones less then a foot). And we had a 101 year old player and his younger brother of 95 with us a usual. Never once saw the marshal making rounds to check on play and the group in front of us was a hole behind all morning (very frustrating). Course is in good shape. No issues with tee boxes or sand traps. Fairways were clean (a bit wet when we started) and dried out later providing good lies and roll out. Rough is virtually non existent and I am fine with that. Greens are in great shape. Customer service excellent at all levels. Oh and LA county has raised fees as of Sept 1. $ .50 for seniors (now $16.50) and $1.00 for non (now $30). Cart fees are under consideration.

Played today (in very foggy conditions) in 4 hours. Course is in decent shape, given the amount of play it gets. Tee boxes great (of course they were all redone over the last 2/3 years); fairways provided good to decent lies (still a lot of bare/thin areas) given the shortage of water available; bunkers excellent (also redone in the last 2/3 years); greens putted/chipped just fine and there is very little rough left (except outside of the fairways). I very much like (as stated before) the run up areas in front of the greens and short trim around greens. Customer service excellent at all levels. They are currently working on a new sand trap/chipping and practice green area on the old practice green next to the cart barn. Not sure when it will be done, but it severely impacts parking, as the equipment is stored on many parking spots, making them unavailable.
