POP today 3.5. Very windy on back nine but made playing 14/15 that much more enjoyable (downwind). Course is coming along nicely, now that cold weather is gone and the grass is growing in the fairways. Customer service excellent at all levels. Tee boxes are still level and clean. Fairways are providing good roll out and better lies. Greens are in great shape and fast (especially today with the wind). Rough is available and gnarly in some (not all) areas. With the wind today, the views in every direction were outstanding.

POP today was 4 hours. We decided to start 1 hour later than normal and all was fine. Though in all fairness, we did get out before a large men's club outing, which no doubt slowed things down later? Course is in great shape (IMO). Tee boxes (of course they are only 2 years old) level/clean. Bunkers cleaned and raked. Rough was a factor on some holes (not all) and very sticky. Fairways clean/mowed and providing good lies (some tighter than others) and providing good roll. The greens were terrific. Fast when putting, holding high shots and providing good roll on chips. Customer service excellent at all levels. Weather was fantastic and added to the enjoyment.

Played yesterday with Robstretch. Tee time was 1022am but ended up finally getting under way around 11am. We were playing behind two large groups one of which were the Seniors. GolfZing rate is $40 which includes cart.

Pace of play horrendous. We expected as much thankfully the views did more than compensate. There were more than a few Instagram moments.

Golf course conditions were OK. Greens were fast, a little bumpy and very hard. The combination of Kikuya skirts and hard greens made for interesting play. Best play was to run it up and hope your ball did not release off the green which happened to me more than a few times. Very difficult to stop the ball on the green with loads of release even for a high arcing shot. Fairways were a little thin in spots but playable. Bunkers are a mix of hard packed and somewhat fluffy. The one bunker I was in on 17 right side had a clay underlay that stuck to my club after the shot. Tee Boxes where flat and well rotated.

Not my best day of golf. Conditions however were decent for the amount of play and how busy this course gets. Not bad for $40, decent golf conditions, and some spectacular (albeit overcast) views of Santa Monica, Malibu and Catalina.

Played after 11am. Because of slow play you won't be able to finish. Pace did pick up after 5 but damage was done.

Played after 11am. Because of slow play you won't be able to finish. Pace did pick up after 5 but damage was done.

Greens in good shape considering rain. There are some bare spots along the sides of the greens on two holes that come to mind. Ball bounces around a little (and I mean a little) from afternoon sun. Fairways a OK. A little thin in some spots but very playable. Bunkers look decent but cannot say since I didn't hit any bunkers. Tee boxes are a flat for the most part and lush.

Mileage will vary but considering the fact that it was stop/start golf, and I wasn't able to get anything going the course conditions are decent in my opinion. It was three groups deep on holes 2, 3 and 5 until things started to pick up. That's at least an hour in wait time.

Overall though it's a deal considering the other "local" courses. Views are stunning. Weather is cooperative. If you have a chance to play do it just make sure you play early enough to finish.

Played today in a time of 3:40 with no problem. Having played Monday after the weekend rains, I wanted to play today to see how the course had/had not improved? It has improved. Though a little damp when we started, the course dried out just great and showed no signs of the weekend rain. Bunkers are still a little harder than you would like, but did not pose any problems. Tee boxes were clean (and always level now since the rebuilding of them) and the fairways were in great shape. Rough is not easy to deal with (but it is not supposed to be). The last posting mentioned the fairways being dormant, but that is not the case, as they are kikuyu and not bermuda (which does go dormant in winter). Maintenance was out mowing the greens and they are in great shape, running fast, smooth but also holding shots very well. Saw very little divot damage and what we did see we fixed. Overall the course is in wonderful shape and with the great sunny weather, the views are outstanding. Remember Monday Jan 19th is a federal holiday and holiday rates will be in effect. And as has been the case, customer service in restaurant and pro shop excellent.

Got out on Sunday in the early morning as a single. Was paired with 3 local players at around 630 before the rain. Pace of play was great finished before 11. Tee boxes were level and had grass. Fairways were dormant so it was a tight lie which I like. Rough was minimal so it was easy to get a club on the ball. Greens were rolling fast and you need local knowledge around the greens if you want to score. Thankfully the marshal gave me a tip about the green speed and breaks and finished the round with only 28 putts. I like this course a lot and the locals were telling me that they have noticed that less people are playing this course than before.

POP today 3.5 on a beautiful sunny day. Course is dry and fairways are running. Not to mention how great the greens are right now. Sand traps were raked and in good shape. And the tee boxes were all clean and of course level. Was told the reason greens are in such good shape, is due to cold weather of late (grass is not growing). But they can also be hard to hold on some shots. Get out and play, I really don't think you will be disappointed? Customer service in restaurant and pro shop, great as usual.

Played yesterday in a nice pace of 4 hours. It was very cold when we teed off (cold breeze from N) but did warm up (slightly) later on. Course was dry and thus fairways giving lots of roll and greens in top notch shape (fast/furious). No bunkers but they appeared to be in acceptable shape. Good customer service in shop/restaurant.

Teed it up this morning as Group #1. First out at 5:32AM. On the shortest day of the year. Sunrise was not till 6:55 today, so when we started it was literally still black out, with only the stars to light the course for us. Like, you'd never have continued playing a twilight round when it was this dark. But Los Verdes is always so slow and crowded, this was the only way I could be sure we'd finish the round. The starter was kind enough to give us each a light-up ball, which was necessary to use for the first 6 holes.

Once we were able to start playing with real balls on the 7th hole, it was beautiful. The rains have helped but there's still some patchy areas. The fairways were good, the rough is pretty inconsistent but usually not too penal. The greens were in great shape, quick and sometimes tricky to read but never "unfair." #11 and #15 are always a treat, particularly in the low light of winter.

Here's my beef: like I said, we were first out. Made the turn in about 90 minutes, mostly in the dark. When we got to #10 there were now 3 or 4 earlybird groups ahead of us, and the back 9 took close to 3 hours. The starter said they only send off the earlybirds playing the back 9 at sunup. Well then don't let people start in the pitch black on the front but not put people on the back for another hour and a half! Sorry, but when I wake up at 4 to be the first group out I don't expect to have to wait EVER.

It by no means ruined the day, and $36 for this course with these views is a good deal any way you slice it. But it was disappointing to learn that there is seemingly no way to get around Los Verdes' well-deserved reputation of being one of the slowest courses in all of golf. Not even starting in unplayable dark will get you around here in under 4 hours.
