Back out at Los Verdes for a Friday, 7AM public shotgun. Took us just over 5 hours to play ... yeah, I know, it's Los Verdes. If you can't hang with slow play, this course must be avoided. Otherwise, considering the ultra hot/dry weather, LV is holding up okay ... fairways at least. Bunkers were NOT conditioned and you got what you get at LV: unraked and uneven sand. But when they are maintained, the sand is nice to play from. Greens were top shelf Poa, really quick in some areas and true. Saw large piles of wood shavings getting ready to spread around the course in areas where grass doesn't grow, like behind #3. Would hate to have to play outta that stuff.

I have recently read the Los Verdes reviews, regarding slow play. While I sympathize with many of you, we played this morning at 6:15 and were done @ 9:30 and we did not hurry. Very true that if you tee off after probably 10 AM weekdays you are most likely facing 5 hours and longer when you go after Noon. But if you already know that you will face a 5 + round why do you even bother to play there at those times? Try and get an early time during the weekday and I believe you will have a totally different experience. Also you will have the benefit of a marshal up until Noon and the marshal's do control pace of play to assist playing enjoyment. And the course is having several monthly public shotguns starting at 7 AM and everyone is done in 4 or 4. 5 hours. Course is in very nice shape presently. Tee boxes level, clean and tee acceptable. Fairways are in great shape providing good lies and the greens have come back in terrific shape from aerating. Of course the weather is nothing but superb adding to the overall enjoyment. I know Los Verdes can be an enjoyable round of golf, with proper planning or mind set?

Haven't made the trek from Ventura County to LV in years, tried again today. We recalled that the pace of play had been an issue here in the past. Nothing has changed for the positive.

Haven't made the trek from Ventura County to LV in years, tried again today. We recalled that the pace of play had been an issue here in the past. Nothing has changed for the positive.

Spoke to a few locals and they confirmed this is an everyday thing. We waited on each and every shot...waited on some tees for three groups to play....after 3 hours and 20 minutes we were done and walked off while waiting on our second shots on number nine.

Right on pace for a seven hour round.

So sad. Amazing views, fair pricing, very reasonable conditions but some regulars (according to the folks we spoke with and those we observed) play in fivesomes, line up every shot and putt like it was Sunday at the Masters, stand over every fairway shot while pondering club selection, take two or three practice swings, then hit it fifty feet. Wipe off the club face, get back in the cart and repeat the same thing another eight or ten times on the way to the green.

If this place didn't invent slow play, they have certainly perfected it.

I hear glow balls are still being used here, but I really don't care anymore ... just expect slow play here on any weekend. To read criley_4way's review and see that a 5.5 hour round is okay ... makes me want to cry. Not much change since my last review: greens recovering, fairways dry but manageable, and rough is spotty. Otherwise, same ol' Los Verdes.

Played in a local tournament today after the LA County 4 ball event.We were supposed to tee of at 10:24 and were still waiting trying to figure out which group was on the tee at 11. We finally got out and plodded our way through a 5:30 round (actually not too bad for a weekend here). The fairways were dry and burned out in places in addition to having been aerated recently and having areas with the dried chunks still visible. The greens still had visible sanded holes from being aerated. The greens were generally receptive to well struck shots and were on the slower side with some dips of fuzzy grass. The fairway bunkers were firm and well sanded as were the greenside bunkers. The biggest complaint today was the spotty nature of the rough. There were many dried out cracked dirt spots, dried out long grass and tufts of grass. On 18 A well struck drive dribbled into the left rough and was in a small hole with a large tuft of grass behind one side of the ball.

As always Los Verdes has some of the best views in Los Angeles and makes for a fun round, especially when it is so hot inland.

Haven't been to 'The Greens' for a few months but played in a MC tourney this AM, got around in 4:40 which isn't ban for this course but we teed off at 7:25. Half of the greens had been punched a couple week back, so they're ready to punch the second half ... call ahead to verify. Fairways better than they were during the winter months, rough is patchy and uneven ... the wire grass is coming back with a vengeance. Green fees are low cuz it's a county course, a good value at $35/walking on a Saturday. Recommended with an early start time, otherwise expect a 5+ hour round.

Played early afternoon round on 4/2. Course is in pretty decent shape overall except for rough. It's a county course so don't expect lush rough, but adequate. The greens were in great condition but little on the slow side. It was little bumpy since it was in the afternoon with footprints and spike marks from normal wear throughout the day. The tee box appeared to be recently punched but very playable. I would give this course a higher rating but the rough conditions lowers the average. A solid 7 out of 10 but for the rough.

Played today at crack of dawn and finished a tad over 4 hours. The greens were awesome and rolled true, medium fast with tricky fast down hill putts. The fairways for the most part was great for a muni. Rough was decent with occasional mixture of brown/dead spots. Bunkers were nice and fluffy but the best part is always the ocean view on the back-9. Looks like they plan to punch the greens in early April, but greens were rolling really smooth today. A hidden gem for the local players, but a pain in the @rse to get early tee times.

Played Saturday the 15th. Course was incredible!! My initial reaction was shock. Customer service was top notch, very friendly staff! Brought a friend that had never played LV before, I warned him about the pace. Actually wasn't that bad. Considering the views, recent renovations, and amount of players on a Saturday, both my friend and I were very happy with the overall experience. I have to say if you want to play a course with some of the best views in all of California, this is the place to play. Again, they struggle with pace of play but what can you expect from a golf course that rivals Torrey Pines. We will definitely be back!! Kudos to AGC and the management at Los Verdes!!
