While playing #13 on "Big Rec", looked over and saw that "little rec" appeared empty, so having finished Recreation Park in well under three hours, I decided to check it out. It's been many years since I last played here, so thought ...... why not ?

Course was much drier than it's big sister, but still wet. Greens again, very good. Kudos to the greenskeeper on both courses. Fairways were lush as expected, and in better shape than across the street.

It was a little busier than I anticipated when I finally arrived, so kind of jumped around a bit just to get the holes in without waiting. Fun golf course - just not worth the $17 for non residents

When going up to Long Beach today to visit some family and friends I stopped for a very slow (2.5 hr) but otherwise pleasant round at Little Rec. The large putting green and 3 chipping greens are very nice. I was paired with 3 other single walkers and we followed a few four- and fivesomes. Little Rec has long been my favorite 9 hole course. It's a nice mix of 3 & 4 pars with a couple of elevated greens and tees and some water to hit over from the back tees on #7. The conditions were about as good as I've ever seen there. The fairways were lush with only some faintly brownish spots. The bunkers were surprisingly soft and fluffy. The greens were awesome..smooth, medium fast and not a ball mark to be seen. I'm glad I got there today as they will be aerifying the greens tomorrow. Several large trees that were on the right side of #6 are gone after being damaged in the recent storms. I've never seen a beverage cart there before, but today it came by 3 times- very nice for only 9 holes. As long as you're not in a hurry, playing here is a great way to spend a couple hours.

Greens are harder and won't hold a high arching shot but play for it and you get consistent results.

Greens hold their line and run med/fast. Fairways very lush. Rough is thick, very penalizing and you will loose your balls easily if you're not careful. Sand in bunkers are well stocked. Tees are flatish.

Pace of play decent for this executive 9 hole course and it offers various challenges for longish par 4s and decent par 3s.

Fun course if you don't have a lot time and like to play Long Beach Courses.

First time playing "Little Rec". Went out as a foursome walking with a foursome riding in front of us, and a threesome behind us walking. The course is quaint from the club house to the layout. Arrived early and made use of the chipping facility. The club house features a fireplace which was lit at 9am and added a wonderful feel. We tee'd of on time at 9:30 and and were finished with our 9 holes in just over two hours, we were never pressed after the third hole. Conditions were good. The is in very nice shape considering the amount of use. Fairways were in very good condition, rough was thick and penal, there were pine needles and twigs to contend with if you were in the trees. The course uses sight lines and elevation changes to add a level of complexity along with a need to elevate and drive over water on one hole. The greens were good with signs of being recently aerated to very good. There is quite a bit of slope and tilt to challenge the golfer. Sand traps were in very good condition and sand was fluffy. Pace of play was excellent, the course was challenging and long, longer than any other nine hole course I have played, staff was friendly and our playing partners VJ and Sam were a joy to play with. This is a course I look forward to playing again.
