Greetings. Let's put it this way. Kind of sucks coming back to reality after playing PB and SH and now a tournament at Whittier Narrows (no offense to Whittier Narrows).

Ok, that said, I booked a tournament here for our group after hearing that the course had shown improvements over the last several years. I spoke with the representative at American Golf to book this course as well as two others in upcoming months. She spoke highly of this course so I thought all would be fine.

In the past, the restaurant had always been decent. I felt as if there was a little drop off here. Food wasn't bad but wasn't outstanding either.

Service in the pro shop was fine, attendant was quick and friendly. Lots of range stalls to hit from but the mats are on concrete so beware, it is a bit hard and jarring when hitting. Bring your own rubber tee too if you want to hit woods.

On to the course. This is where my disappointment came. I felt duped by being told that there were significant improvements. Fairways were horrendous, even after all the rain we've rec'd over the past several weeks. Really, really patchy. Looks like different breeds of grass too; I don't think it was overseed bc that would've normally taken place months ago so I'd just say it was horrible fairway conditions. Ordinarily, I wouldn't want to be this harsh or critical of a course but when you book tournaments and are told things are wonderful and pay a premium price to book a tournament, this wasn't the case, not even close. And perhaps I'm a bit fortunate to play out of a country club that always has great fairways but goodness, this was bad.

On the other hand, I felt the greens were fine. After all the rain, they were healthy and were running around a 10 (speed). We did get some rain yesterday afternoon and the greens did "pool" in some spots. A few of our groups abandoned their round but most of us weathered the rain and played on.

Is this worth the $63 fees we paid? Absolutely not despite the fact that the greens were fine. Personally, Idk if I would even pay $55 ($40 plus $15 cart) because of the conditions. I'll speak to the tournament director about this but when it looks that bad, it appears as if maintenance is in decline or nonexistent.

I only had time today for 9. So played the Mt Course 9 here. Was very impressed with the conditions. Fairways had decent coverage, though you did find some thin areas. Tee boxes were all clean and playable. Bunkers were very playable. No rough to speak of. Greens were just great. Small greens, that require accuracy and they were clean and played very fast. Like this little 9 (1 par 5, 3 par 3's and five good par 4's). Customer service excellent at all levels. Great 9 and plays quick.

6:16 am tee time Monday. I was shocked to see how few people were there? One of our foursome was running late, so we did not tee off until 6:20, but could have gone earlier. Totally unexpected. Very mild weather, so with nobody in front or behind us, it was enjoyable to play at a nice easy pace.

Course was in better condition than I expected, particularly the greens, which rolled well, were faster than they appeared and were very receptive to holding shots. Most of the fairways were fine, with occasional bare areas, but for the most part - very playable. Only in one bunker and while not raked, had plenty of sand.

I don't play here very often, so enjoyed my return visit. Again, I could not believe how empty the course was? After recently playing La Mirada, Lakewood, & Diamond Bar, I expected the place to be jammed with people first thing in the morning, but not so? Don't understand ?

Played today on the all day Vets special ($20 W - $35 w cart). Place was empty early and finished in 3 H. Tee boxes are all fine (though they do need leveling someday). Very little rough anywhere and ... Continue »

Played today on the all day Vets special ($20 W - $35 w cart). Place was empty early and finished in 3 H. Tee boxes are all fine (though they do need leveling someday). Very little rough anywhere and what there is, is manageable. Fairways had decent coverage on the River 9 with good lies and roll. The Pine 9 was in much better shape, as it was greener and had better roll out and lies. Bunkers were all playable. Greens were very nice. Chipped/putted well with speed and bounce from incoming shots. Customer service was excellent at all levels

Played today in 3.5 H. Course is in decent shape (IMO). Tee boxes were all clean and playable (would like to see them all redone someday). Fairways had decent coverage, but an occasional thin area or browned area are still present. Not in any bunkers (nice) and heard no complaints and they looked just fine. Very little if any rough at all. Greens were really very nice and chipped/putted very good. Customer service excellent at all levels. Done with the bathroom remodel, still working on new Pro shop and restaurant. Good value with LA senior card.

Joined a friend today and wish I had not. We ended up leaving after 9 holes. The pace of play was atrocious + the fairways were terrible (you might just as well play winter rules). The tee boxes were fine. The bunkers were OK and the greens were nice? But 3 out of 4 does not make for a good round. I realize a lot of the conditions are the fault of recent weather conditions? But I personally feel, that courses who want our $$ (or $$$) should be up front about those conditions, when tee times are made (that is my personal opinion OK). I think I will take some more out of state trips through the rest of Aug and part of Sept? Or travel farther out to other regions of CA (Ventura, Monterey, etc) to find better conditioned courses?

Just wanted to give a congrats to the staff at Whittier Narrows who dealing with water shortages that apply to most courses these days I thought the greens and surrounding areas of the greens were in great shape. The greens putted true and medium fast . The main thing was they were smooth and I think I saw only one putt hop all day which is remarkable especially on a LA muni. A very enjoyable day of golf

I had time for 9 today, so chose the Mt 9 here. I like this 9 for the following reasons. Price ($8.25 after noon $11.25 morning till noon). POP is usually 90 minutes or less (today 90 minutes).The layout is a good mixture of holes (1 par 5, 3 different length par 3's and 5 various length par 4's). The greens are always in good shape and are small and elevated, giving one a good work out with iron play. Tee boxes were clean and no issues. Fairways are "spotty" and you get a mixture of lies at present. Bunkers are good and playable. Rough is minimal outside of the fairways. Greens were clean and chipped/putted fine with decent speed. Customer service was excellent. Construction still under way for new clubhouse and bathrooms.

Played today after 3 PM, hoping that 2 weeks after aeration, greens would be good. Not the fact. Still showing the holes/sand and very poor at present. The tee boxes had good coverage (but still need leveling IMO); bunkers were all playable; fairways were green and had good coverage, though there are some thin spots still showing; rough was high and hard to play out of. Customer service excellent at all levels. Still major construction (looks lengthy) going on.
