Wanted to use a groupon, so decided to get back to play here. My review would pretty much mirror the prior review, but I didn't seem to have too much trouble with the firmness of the greens? Playing early may have helped because still a lot of moisture in them.

This is a fun little course, which has a number of decent holes. Nice change of pace. I have to admit I did not pay a lot of attention to the fairways, or rough. Both bunkers I was in had plenty of sand. Since I never played here before the remodel, I have no way to compare to the original design, but I kind of enjoy this course, just because it's different.

Had not been out to Birch Hills since they opened back up. They changed some of the layout but it is still a fun course. Tee boxes, fairways and greens have good coverage and were cut the right height. Bunkers have some thick sand but was ok to get out of. Greens were really firm and could not get a ball to stop with approach shots, you really needed to be below the hole with the layout of the greens. Nice touch with water jugs on about every other hole. Still working on the clubhouse and talking to one of the employees it should be done in a couple of months.

1:30 tee time on a Saturday, finished in 3-1/2 hours. Fun little course with three or four holes on which you can hit driver. Lot of traps, mature trees on the front nine. Greens had been punched and sanded and were still uneven, pretty hard, and pretty fast. Some bare spots on the fairways. Tee boxes were really hard...take a hammer along to drive you tee into the ground.
Traps were OK. Sand a bit thin and pretty hard; no lip one many bunkers so putting out can be a viable option.
Take a ball retriever and you can fish out a half dozen on 13 and 14.
For $24 it's a fun afternoon.

Birch Hills is kind of my new home course since moving to Fullerton/Brea. The 1st time i played here, the twosome we were paired with hit a hole-in-one on the first hole. 2nd time i played, witnessed another hole-in-one on the 7th hole.
Its a very fun course. While there are some very easy holes, there are a few challenging ones. There are 2 maybe 3 holes you can take out driver on. The pace of play is usually pretty quick, especially during the week when there is almost nobody here.
Temporary club house is a work in progress, they have a few items but could use more. Hard to do in a trailer so I have no problem with it.
Driving range is off mats during the week and off grass on the weekend. Range is in good condition.

Overall I really enjoy playing here. The prices are good, and the golf is fun. I am the driving range at least once a week here, since its right up the street.

We used to play here often and enjoyed the old home spun feeling of everything from the cafe to the old school driving range and when it reopened this year we wanted to try as soon as the weather cooled off a bit so we gave it a go on sunday. The course was almost empty and the guys in the temporary club house were really nice . the greens were smooth but very slow and as new greens often are very hard ,The tee boxes were also very level but even harder on most holes we gave up in trying to get a peg in the ground . The sand was nice but needs to settle in a bit and as for rough we really didnt see any . The new layout was fun and they must have moved a lot of dirt to get it that way it was pretty easy will be a great place to bring newer players . The highlight of the day for us was the mobile bar girl Megan , What a gem she was we saw her often and she kept us laughing at every stop . She was friendly ,entertaining and made darn good cocktails to boot . It seems her specialty are vodka and diet cokes man the were good and we did have a round or two too many anly because Morgan was such a gem. Anyway the course wasnt cheap and does need to grow in a bit but if your in the area give it a try and if you get the chance order a round of vodka and diet cokes from the cart girl

Late responder here, played last Friday afternoon. I was excited to get back here to this fairly local course for me. I had accidentally booked a tee time online and had to call the course to tell them I could not make the time I had clicked on. They looked it up and without hesitation asked what I needed and re booked the time for Friday that I wanted. So the front end service was great. Good rate for the afternoon. This course was re built over the past 2 to 3 years it seems like it took forever. The lay out was not too different than before from what I remember. I thought they could have done so much more. Same club hole after hole it seemed as the yardages were too similar. I really thought the course was going to be in good condition, wow, what a disappointment. Greens were receptive but so slow , bumpy and what I call furry. The usual, lousy greens means nobody fixes any ball marks. But then again the ninth green had no ball marks, just hard packed dirt with no grass near the pin. Tee boxes were hard as a rock, I finally just started dropping the ball on a lump of grass since the tee would not penetrate. We were a two some following 2 six somes. Yes six. No marshall just wait... and wait some more. We asked the threesome behind us to join, but they said they didn't mind waiting. So my friend and I just stayed separate. The weather was perfect and we had a lot to talk about, so it was ok. Ridiculous but ok. They did have a beverage cart going around which was nice. We were able to finish just before dark, took just under four hours. A par 59 course. I shot 62. Even with the discounted afternoon rate, I don't see myself returning here. I can play full size courses for about the same rate and much better condition, and hole variety. Maybe that is what they were after in the design, take four clubs and go.

Newly re-opened. Greens were just aerated and are very bumpy. Some contour but nothing crazy. Course is much shorter than it used to be, about 3100 yards from the blue tees. Traps are in good shape but a bit wet when we started. A mix of mature and newly planted trees but pretty wide open. Water comes into play on a few holes, particularly #12 where it's hidden from view.
Overall a good place to practice short game. Longest of the five par 4's is 380 yds.

Incredibly this is the first time I have ever played this course, so I have no reference as to how it compared to the original course. The course was pretty much what I expected, except for the greens. There is a lot of movement on these greens and if the were faster, there could be some very difficult putts. My only complaint is I hit a number of really good wedge shots (using a ProV1)and they simply did not bite!

Condition of the course was OK, but considering they just recently opened, still somewhat disappointing. Staff was good, except they failed to tell us they were starting a shotgun on #15 at 7:30, which was just the time we reached that hole ????. Still managed to finish in about two hours. I enjoyed my experience, but doubt I'll be back.

08/24/2015 - played Birch Hills, Tee Time 6:30 am. Pace of play quick. we had a pair ahead of our foursome that moved very quickly and a foursome behind us that kept us moving. They were very polite.

The remodeled course is wonderfully laid out. It is laid out and appointed like a full size course, only in 3/4 scale. There are some tree lined fairways, others are a decade away. The first tee actually features a clock tournament style.

Excellent use of fairway bunkers, water and greenside bunkers to force players to shape shots. Number of the greens feature bunkers protecting the fronts and sides, well elevation prevents going long.

The tee boxes are lush, but so hard that setting a tee can be difficult. In some cases the blue tees were pushed back far enough to bring the slope at the back of the box into play.

The sand in the bunkers were among the best I have experiences in a muni. As we played they were perfectly raked, and the groups in front of us had taken good care to rake out when appropriate.

Greens were hard, but in excellent shape, despite many being recently aerated. There were a few ball marks, but the care paid to the greens and rough around the green were evident.

The fairways were a mixed bag. A couple had recently been aerated, the mowers were out (in fact a lot of work was being done well we played, didn't expect that on a Tuesday). The fairways and rough had or were being mowed and mulched. Additionally some fairways were soaked so that at one point a drive dead straight at the pin, 40 yards from the green was sitting down in mulch and mud making the follow up shot to the green and exercise in frustration.

Given the course is composed mainly of par 3's if you can hit the green from the tee, the course is nearly perfect. On the par 4's or where you might end up on the fairways the course should be very good where dry and if the mulch is cleaned up.

I look forward to playing this course again. The staff is great. The course is new. The sight for the club house is ready to start construction. The design of the greens are as fair yet challenging as I have seen on an executive course.

I didn't keep close time but believe we completed the round in well under 3 hours.
