Played here 10/23/17 in a foursome. Very very short course. Only pulled my driver out twice. Mostly used my 8,9,PW,Putter and 60 Degree. Very easy course. I show a 70. It's only a par 58. Good practice course but not worth busting your rear end to get out to. I wish some of the holes would be about 30 yards longer. They can still change the course to make it a bit longer and i suggest it. Maybe make it a par 60-62 instead of par 58.

My daughter and son in law spend the night with us so the next day, son in law wants to play golf. He is just learning the game and since Birch Hills is close, that seemed to be the place. Arrived without a tee time around 9:00 on Saturday and got right to the tee as a twosome. Thought there would be more people playing but most went out earlier I assume. $47 with a cart seemed steep for this course but it is a Saturday in Orange County. Got around in just over two hours. We did catch up to a very slow foursome on #4 but they let us go through. Thank you! The course is definitely a change of pace. Many short holes but a great way to work on the short iron/wedge game. Tee boxes are a bit chewed up. With 13 par 3’s on the course, I guess you should expect that. Fairways on the par 4’s were in good shape. Noticed some yellowing on the back however. Sand traps were a bit hard but were very playable. Greens were in good shape but had many un-repaired ball marks. They have a nice club house with restaurant with some very nice people working it. Friendly staff. Stayed for lunch which was very tasty. I would recommend playing here but know it can be slow.

I played yesterday with a GN Hot deal for $14. I wanted to walk a shorter course and I’ve only played there once since the renovation and was curious to see how things were progressing. I arrived about 30 minutes before my tee time - with a completely flat tire. I knew I had to attend to that before playing. The girl in the pro-shop said it was no problem, the course was wide open so I go out later. (The auto club had the tire changed in 20 minutes so I actually got to start right on time.)

The new clubhouse looks great. It has a nice modern look with several tv screens, a bar and patio tables all around. I was surprised at how many people were hanging out there. It had a very happy vibe.

The course was fun. Many of the holes are pretty much the same as prior to the renovation, and a few are completely different. I think there used to be a lot more big trees on the front. There are some nice hills and a couple of holes with water. The tee boxes were level but pretty chewed up. Some fairways were very green with good coverage, others were very thin. The rough varied from patchy to long and lush. The greens were smooth and fast and the bunkers had decent sand.
I finished in 2 hours. It was very enjoyable and good short game practice. I will definitely be back.

Finished Coyote Hills by 8:10, so being in the area, stopped by Birch Hills. Wasn't as busy as I expected, so decided to give it a try. POP was about as expected, slow, but not horrible.

Course is in just OK condition. Greens need to be rolled. Some firm - some soft ? Fairways were hit and miss, kind of depended where you ended up. Not in any bunkers, but they looked decent. Despite the condition, I enjoyed the round. Nice change of pace !

Played on Wed. the 24th at 4:00. Still a nice layout with pretty good conditions. Tee boxes flat not chewed up for a par 3 course. Greens looked slow but were fast and true. The main reason I went was because of the free golf for juniors under 16 with a payed adult. So I took the neighbor kid who just started playing and had a great time. Will be playing once a week there for sure

What happened to Birch Hills? I hate, hate, hate leaving bad reviews, but there's nothing good going on golf-wise at Birch right now. I wonder if they are just out of funding? Or if the nearby home construction is affecting course operations? There was only one pro shop employee today, and he was trying to check people in and run food from the kitchen at the same time...I didn't want to bother him with questions after the round. Tee boxes are hardpan with almost no grass, and I'm guessing at least a week's worth of broken tee litter. Fairways are hardpan with dirt and weeds. The rough is weeds. Bunkers look ok from afar, but many have a bunch of black gravel hidden throughout the sand. And lastly, the greens did not heal correctly from being punched. Bumpy, dead spots, and inconsistent slow speeds. The whole course kind of looks like they never turned on the water after the rainy season ended. Sorry Birch, I can't recommend that anyone play here. I truly hope whatever is going on gets sorted out soon.

Played here for the first time in 16 years on Sat. 3/25 with my dad at 6:52AM. New clubhouse is nice, and well appointed for a smaller facility. Check-in was straightforward and we were told we were playing with the group which had paid immediately before us. We showed up to the 1st tee ten minutes early and that twosome had already teed off. No starter/marshall making sure groups were pairing up. We watched as two twosomes and a threesome teed off before us and then we played as a twosome in exactly 3 hours.
The course has been open for almost two years now, and the greens are all still very hard. Even though they're rock hard, there are a lot of ball marks on the greens. I fixed many more than just my own. Management needs to tell their old-timer mens club players to take care of their course. On the bright side, I hit a handful of bunkers and all of them had good soft sand and they were in great shape. The fairways were in decent shape. Rough was inconsistent and very short. I'm quite surprised with how much rain has fallen recently and it was NOT noticeable here. Not lush at all.

Played here on Friday March 3rd. 830am tee time. Rehabbing from a left shoulder surgery in late November, so thought this would be a good way to start my way back in, slowly and comfortably. The course is only 4400 yards, par 59, with 13 par 3's (ranging from 70-180 yards). Several 3's on the front 9 are in the 90-100 range so you'll get a good amount of practice with wedges. 3 of the 5 pars 4's are drivable, but still requires a precise shot of 260-275, as fairly well protected green entrances. Overall, nice conditions. The tee boxes can be chewed up a bit, as so many shots from similar spots, but always found good turf to hit from. Some tee boxes were a little firm and thin, but makes for good practice if hitting off the grass. Greens were surprisingly medium firm, but held good shots. Rolled quite well, smooth for the most part, but you may find a few unrepaired ball marks. Medium fast and a decent amount of tilt on many of the greens. presents good challenge. Fairways on the par 4's were fine. Good coverage throughout. Sand bunkers were excellent. good amount of medium soft sand, very playable. Nice, cozy bar and restaurant (The Treehouse), with comfortable furniture inside and out. Fire pits and pretty good food, cold beer, and very friendly service. Probably not a place the low handicap players will find that enjoyable, but very casual and fun track. Recommend.

I see I was the last one to review this course earlier this year. Played here Friday 12/30. Was supposed to play with our regular group at Los Serranos but the morning rain scared off a couple of guys and we cancelled. So decided to run a couple of errands and have breakfast out over in Brea and drove past the course to see the rain had chased everyone there also. Finished breakfast about 10:00, the rain stopped so decided to play. Had all of my rain rear ready but never needed it. In fact the sun came out on the back 9.

The starter charged me $23 which he said was the non-card carrying senior rate to walk. Huh? I said the last time I was here in the summer it was $18 to walk. He said there was a rate increase in November. I continued to challenge and find out why the increase but he clearly didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t want to either because I wanted to get to the tee and get out.

The course is in very nice condition. Fairways on the five par 4’s were very nice. Winter browning was beginning but not many bare spots. Tee boxes were a bit thrashed but you have to expect that knowing 13 of the 18 holes are par 3’s. The greens however rolled very nicely despite the fact that there were many and I mean many, unrepaired ball marks. I fixed my own and as many as 5 other ball marks on just about every hole. A real shame but what are going to do? Sand traps were wet from the rain but very playable.

Finished walking the course in about 2 hours. Nothing spectacular here but if you’re looking to work on that 80 to 120 yard shot and have absolutely nowhere else to play, this is a nice place to do so :-) However If the course is going to continue to raise their rates (I checked and this was the 3rd increase in 2016) it will impact getting the better players to come out. For about the same price, there are other better courses in the area to play. Noticed they were selling a players card. They did finish the clubhouse/restaurant however. Didn’t order anything to eat or drink there but it looks very nice. Nice bar and a couple of nice TV’s.
