Played on Sunday with an 812 tee time for my GK match against Tobi. Course was in good shape today. Greens were pretty fast and in good shape today with only a few ball marks but it is tough to make a ball mark on concrete. They were very firm and very hard to hold longer shots, especially with a 15 mile an hour wind. The fairways were in good shape for the winter and had some nice roll to them but still had plenty of grass. The one bunker I was in was great and had plenty of sand. Tee boxes not to bad, level with little divot damage. The course is good right now condition wise and if you like this track, get out and play it before they punch the greens.

Played here on Sunday 2/3. All comments from the other review on 2/3 are dead on. I play here almost 1 /week on average and have witnessed the transition of the fairways. It's almost complete. As mentioned in another review, a few bare spots which are typically marked as GUR. Greens are great right now...March (aeration) is just around the corner, so get out in February to enjoy while smooth and fast. Always great service, good range (when on grass), chipping and putting near first tee. Great venue and 19th hole, inside the bar / grill and even better when on the patio outside overlooking # 18. Highly recommend.

What a great track. First time out here and it's an exceptional layout.

This course is difficult to score on. I hit the ball great off the tee, wasn't so bad with my irons, and shot 8-10 shots over my handicap. The course presents no two holes that are the same, difficult par 3's, and par 5's you can score on. I don't think you can find a better place to play, environment wise, as everything from the views to the clubhouse to the bar (couple good beers on tap) were all fantastic.

As for the conditions of the course, I couldn't be more impressed. As others have stated, and a sign in the pro shop states, they are on the tail end of a transition from rye to kikuya on the fairways. I'd say I had two bad lies all day. When this course is 100% done with the transition, its so on.

These are the best greens that I have played on in the past 2 years. They are firm, fast, pure and hold shots. They also will make you look like a complete idiot the first time you play them. But I can not say enough about how nice they are. I judge a lot about the value of my dollar that I pay for golf on the greens and these are worth every penny.

I hit a lot of fairways and they look great. There are a few bare spots and transition areas where they are changing the grass over, but dude, its winter and the course is making the effort to get better, just bump the ball if you get all worked up over an occassional bad lie.

I guess the rough is rough. I wouldn't know, I missed one fairway all day. I will say that the posts that hold the cart path ropes are unusually high here but very easy to break with a topped three wood. Trust me.

All in all, I say you should play Black Gold. The people that work there are great (they have bloody marys and margaritas ON TAP in the beverage cart!!) and the course is cool. It's not an easy golf course at all and you should come knowing that you will more than likely get frustrated around the greens, but you definitely get good value for your money. Heck, they have cool tunes playing on the speaker when you're on the range. How can you not have fun?

I will go back to Black Gold soon and often as I want to exact revenge on the 17th green. I think this is a good option to include in your rotation or to come play if you want a great day of golf.

Played 1/20 with the GroupGolfer deal. The greens were LIGHTNING fast. Definitely the fastest I've ever experienced here. There were a bit of brown areas in the fairway, but they played just fine.

worth (EZ-LINK special). Good to know lay of the course to attempt to hit to the correct side of
fairways. Uphill,downhill, sidehill. Good test of one's skills and the greens were deceptively fast today.

Only real issue was pace of play. ranger was out there but besides taking notes you really saw no improvement throughout the day. Give yourself plenty of time here. Otherwise great track and great conditions.

Fun casual round on Saturday morning, 12/1/12, with GKers bsparks and tobster. BG held up pretty well after the rains, with receptive medium speed greens. Only some holes CPO. Fairways were generally OK although many thin spots and ball sitting down. Rough wet and could really grab your club. Saw cart girl numerous times, and snack bar at the turn was open. After the rain we had I didn't post a rating for the course. Recommended.
