Played Tuesday morning about 9:30, POP about 4.5 hours, but then again was stuck behind a 4some that were 2-3 hole behind. No Marshall seen all day, perhaps this is normal for weekday play? Course itself is in wonderful condition. Greens were fast and smooth and saw minimal ball marks (thank you golfers!).
Tee boxes are nice and level. Fairways good with minimal patching seen. A few thin areas, but otherwise very nice. Sand was a bit thin in the 1-2 bunkers I personally found myself in. Driving range was odd on this day, played on mats which has certainly seen better days. Perhaps it was the rain over the weekend that moved you off the grass, but this was the first time I had ever used a mat at BG. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. Crew was doing some maint on the 1st par 5 hole on the back 9, just a little patching around the green and some work on the large greenside bunker, it didn't effect play at all.

Played Sunday 11-18-12 8:45 tee time. It rained the night before so the course was pretty wet. Conditions are very good right now. Greens were a bit soft but rolled true. Still a Tiny bit sandy but rolled true. A few brown and bare spots on fairways here and there but for the most part lush. I havent played here for a few years and forgot how nice the layout was. Great course. Pace of play was 4:10 on a sunday morning. Would def play again!

I have played here a few times now and I really like the layout, it seems to have a wide range of golf holes that test every club you have.

The guys in the pro shop are so relaxed and friendly, there is nothing better than being welcomed to the club before you start.

So the Course was a little soft in the fairways, I dont know if they had heavy rain in the day or two before, but the layout was good and there was a lot of areas roped off to protect the approach to the greens which is understandable.

With it being Nov the grass was to me a little patchy and not being from Cali maybe someone can advise on the type of grass and how it behaves in the winter. This didnt put me off and I would really recommend it.

The greens played nicely and had a nice roll, what i like about this course is the various levels of elevation and the views that you see as you climb onto the back nice.

The par 3's are medium to long with good greens to hit into and the 18th is a great finishing hole par 5 that has the green protected by water and sits up so it tests the distance control!

Played Veteran's Day with a few buddies. 1PM tee time. Knew it was going to be afternoon pace, but expected to finish. Turned out much slower than we thought. Waiting pretty much every single shot. At one point, there were (I kid you not) 5 groups on 1 par5. The marshal came by around the 4th hole and told us he expect the pace to improve as the slow groups get off the course. It never did and we ended up barely finishing 14 holes.

The condition of the course was VERY good. Probably the best I've seen Black Gold. Last time I played here, they were still working on the fairways; changing the grass type I believe. It seems that the work is finally done and the course has recovered nicely. Tee boxes were even with divots mostly filled in (thank you people). Fairways were lush with no brown spots or damages. Greens were receptive, yet fast and rolled true. I was lucky enough to miss all bunkers, but they look like they were in good shape. This is a good time to go play this course. I purchased some groupgolfer vouchers and look forward to using them!

Played Black Gold on Sat Morning 11/03/12, 8:05am with bsparks for our GK Cup Match. Unfortunately I lost the macth but had a great time playing. We played from the white tees. Tee boxes and fairways are in decent shape. Greens are in good condition and rolling at a nice pace. Some ball marks due to them being a soft and receptive. The staff here was super friendly as always. Pace of play was about 4:45, and saw the cart girl often.

Played Saturday morning around 8:05 with fellow GK'er Du Lu. Turned out to be a very nice weather day, although the wind picked up quite a bit on the back 9.

Greens were in really good condition despite a few ball marks here and there.
Greens were a little thin of sand I thought. White Tee boxes were nice and level, they could use a bit more grass just to help the appearances. Fairways were in decent condition, though there are brown spots on pretty much every hole. Pace of play was about 4:45, Though I felt we were moving along just fine, maybe it was just our foresome. There was really no waiting most of the day. Facilities at BG are always nice and properly placed. Cart Girl was friendly and around a couple of times on the front and same on back.

Well #flatjohnny, myself and some of my cohorts made our way to Black Gold yesterday. Check out #flatjohnny's antics on Instagram @ringworld. And no disrespect to the previous review but I did enjoy my round. It was a bit slow (we cruised through the front 9) until we caught the tail end of the tournament which played earlier in the morning. Side note, gotta say those CFMA guys really had some choice prizes. Since pace of play was not what it should be we were met by one of the Black Gold staffers on 14 with a certificate for 50% off just because pace of play was not up to par. We didn't even ask for it. And it was a welcome if not suitable restitution -- Honestly it was a nice and SMART marketing move on their part.

As for the conditions. I did see a lot of areas in the fairway that were thin. You can tell just by looking at the surface but honestly they were easily overlooked by myself and my group. Greens had loads of marks on them but rolled really fast and true -- (fast for my perspective). They did get a little scruffy towards the end of the day but that is to be expected when the temperature drops so quickly. Sand in bunkers we a little inconsistent some being hard; some being fluffy but they are hazards and honestly I had no business being in there in the first place. Tee boxes were for the most part forward but for me and my skill level they were fine. A forced carry of 180 yards and my heart gets palpitations LOL. It has been some time since I have played this course -- almost 3 years in fact. And it was a nice surprise to see the course in the condition it is in. My personal opinion is the course is in good playable condition especially with their online special. ($15 includes cart + range balls) Even triple at that price it's a decent deal. It's a pretty fair judge of your golf game. And aside from some of the "crazy blind shot holes" what you see is really what you get.

Oh if you want to really read the greens here I suggest looking at both sides (hole to ball and ball to hole). And you can see the elevation and sweeps because on the greens what you see is not necessarily what you get.

Over the past couple of years, each & every time I've been to this layout there has been NON-stop working going on by the Maintenance crew and the course is wet in many spots of the fairways.

On this day, in which a charity event was being held was NO DIFFERENT!

I spoke with some of a the ground crew, they were shaking their heads, they do not understand all the changes by the Superintendent.
The course is NOW going to Kikuyu after removing and $pending extra money on other grass surfaces the past few seasons.

Tee Boxes: On this day, a MAJORITY of the tee boxes were being re-sodded, certain tee boxes were closed and there were bulldozers & backhoes with crews working on Hole #13 They did NOT stop for us to tee off, just kept about their business at hand.
With that said, several tee box markers were bunched up on the same tee box. The players were disappointed for not playing from the correct tees. If I recall, one of the par 4's they Men & Ladies were hitting from the forward most tee box.

Greens: They were healing from being aerated and were coming along ok but not without the bumpiness. Speed was very inconsistent from green to green. Ball marks being repaired incorrectly.

Bunkers: Were in excellent condition for being medium firm.

Tee Boxes: Each and every one had maintenance going on. Some tee boxes were not level.

Fairways: Some of the holes had many areas for patchwork in the fairway and were cart path only. I'm glad I wore my Gortex waterproof shoes, found unexpected areas that contained lots of water for a being a dry summer.

IF you have not played this layout, might be worth getting a yardage book for $7.00?

Layout: Strange to have TWO par 3's back to back (Holes #7 & #8) Average layout and for the money? Way overpri$ed.

Played as a twosome on 9/30 at 1:07, got paired with another twosome. GN online deal of $39, great price. Pace was good, ~4 hours. The tee boxes are all level and lush, although a few were somewhat firm and tough to get a tee down in. The fairways and rough were very nice, especially with the heat we've been having; the rough was deep and treacherous in many places. Majority of fairway divots were sanded. The greens appeared recently punched, but rolled pretty true, although a bit on the slow side. Quite a few unrepaired ball marks out there too. The bunkers my group was in were very firm, with a deceptively shallow layer of soft sand on top. Great for fairway shots, not so good for greenside shots. It was a very hot day, and the beverage cart was up to the task, coming by many times during the round. It looks like they did away with some of the 'pump' style water coolers and replaced them with normal ones, but due to our later tee time most were empty. This course isn't terribly long, but it makes up for it with uneven lies and tricky angles into many greens. Always fun to play here, and the challenge never gets old. I'd play here way more often if they offered more specials like the one I got this time, the rack rate is just too steep.
