Teed off Wednesday about 7:30 finishing in 3:50. Great pace of play today. Typically when I tee off within 1.5 hours of day break I finish in about 4:15. The greens are in good shape rolling mostly smooth with medium+ speed and holding shots. The fairways have mostly good coverage but there are thin/bare areas scattered about. The rough has good coverage around the greens but there are some thin/bare areas along the fairways. The length of the rough was long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The bunkers had decent sand. The tee boxes have decent coverage in most areas but are mildly unlevel.

Lagos has an enjoyable layout. Holes are flat to rolling terrain with water coming into play on a few holes. There are a few doglegs and decent variety of short and long par 4s. The driving range has good mats and for a couple bucks more per bucket there is a grass section. There are 2 putting greens and a chipping green. The staff was friendly.

Out with my monthly golf group this past Saturday and this time Costa Mesa's Los Lagos 18 got the call for our three foursomes. We always play from the white tees with this group, and this past weekend was no different. A few of the guys walked but most rode and the greens fee was around $79 if I recall correctly.

Overall the course is in pretty nice shape despite the massive amount of traffic it gets and the two courses on the same property. I found lots of good spots in the fairways and not too many burned out junky sections, so that was nice. Rough could be thick in spots but was mostly very playable. Greens were also in good shape, not running too fast or slow but holding shots well and staying pretty true to their lines.

Bunkers were generally pretty thin and grainy so it was often better to opt for the chip exit than the sand style, but you could feel it out a bit when digging your feet into the sand. Not sure it it was some earlier overwatering or just the type of sand they're currently using. Tee boxes were mostly in good shape and always flat. Tough to keep them pristine I'm sure.

The bad part? The POP was a disaster, and often is at this course. I'm not sure if it's the back-to-back par 5s at the start, or the always calamitous 4th and 7th par 3s that get backed up sometimes three groups, but it's pretty soul-crushing and groove-destroying waiting that long all the time. It cleared up a bit on the back nine but by then the damage is done. Overall we finished at around five and a half hours and that's just depressing. Please fix this.

It's still a fun course though even though I never seem to score well here, kind of like Santa Anita. There are just some courses that never play well to your game, and this is one of them, but I'm not going to simply blame it on the conditions, but the long POP certainly doesn't help!

Teed off about 7:30 on Thursday finishing in 4.5 hours. The greens were in very good condition. They rolled smooth, medium/fast speed, and held shots. The fairways have mostly good coverage but the thin/bare spots have become more prevalent with the summer heat compared to when I last played here in May. In preparation for the Costa Mesa City Championship this weekend the bare spots were marked as ground under with white outline which made those spots really stand out. The rough has been affected similarly. Mostly good coverage along the fairways with thin/bare spots becoming little more apparent than two months ago. Around the greens the rough coverage is pretty good and just long enough to affect shots. The bunkers (I was in two) were in good condition and well groomed. The tee boxes have good coverage but like most munis are a little unlevel. I always enjoy the layout of Lagos with a nice variety of holes and some rolling terrain. The staff was friendly.

Booked a 6:25 tee time on the website and ended up playing as a threesome with a father and son who were very fun partners. Teed off right on time and all though we waited on some holes we finished in 3:45 on an overcast morning.
They set the tee markers as wide as possible which makes it easy to find a good spot. All the boxes had good coverage.
The fairways are in good condition with a few dirt spots on some holes. The rough is cut very low so not really a problem to get out of.
I was in one greenside bunker and it had good sand.
The greens were in good shape but running a little slow. They were smooth and had very few pitch marks to deal with.
Overall the course is very playable and there was some maintenance going on and had sprinklers running on a few holes. Checkin was quick and friendly. I have never seen a drink cart here but there is a window for drinks and such at the turn and one between 15 and 16. Saw a marshal several times.

Teed off Friday morning shortly after 7am finishing in 4:15. The greens are in good condition following mid April aeration. Putts rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. As the prior reviewer pointed out the greens have plenty of subtle breaks to them and typically slope back to front. The fairways have good coverage with decent rollout along with some thin spots. The rough around the greens has good coverage and long enough to affect shots. The rough along the fairways is mostly good with some thin/bare spots and not too penal. The bunkers are good with decent sand and groomed. The tee boxes have decent coverage and are mildly unlevel but the markers are set to the width of the boxes so it is easy to find a flat spot. Good muni track with a mix of flat to rolling terrain. Water comes into play on a few holes. The staff was friendly.

We got out earlier than our time this AM and finished in 3 hours. Course is in very nice shape. While the course seems benign when viewing the holes. You have to deal with wind, length, elevation, water and elevated greens. And by all means bring your chipping game. Tee boxes wide and no issues. Fairways are wide and had good coverage, lies and roll all round. Rough was playable all round. Traps were a mixed bag due to early morning dampness. Greens are large and undulating and have very suttle breaks. I can see where good local knowledge can be of benefit. Fast easy check in and friendly service. Food in cafe was reasonably priced and very good. Was interesting that there is no senior rates unless you live in Costa Mesa. But the golf and cart were reasonable w/o. I will go back for sure.

Greens have almost fully recovered from aeration: small holes on the green did not seem to severely impact many putts. I thought they actually rolled pretty quickly despite the small punch holes, as evidenced by the 20 foot putt that I hit 15 feet BEYOND the hole on 16.

Tee boxes are always above average here simply because they are so wide and never hard to find a spot.

Fairways were good to very good, just a few dead spots which is about par for the course here.

Rough was just slightly longer than the fairway and not overly penal.

Conditions here are always quite good, but the POP is ALWAYS an issue for me. Teed off at 10:06 and finished in about 5:15. Every par 3 had at least a 3 group wait to tee off. Marshall non-existent, we *maybe* saw one on 11/12 but he drove right by without saying anything. We were the first tee time in our 4 tee time group, so we used the par 3 waiting to catch up with those behind us and compare scores.

All in all, the course is solid, but the constant POP issues keep me from playing this on a more consistent basis.

Played here for the first time, 04/08/22, and tee'd off around 07:30am and finished easily 11:45..FYI. We are veteran players that play ready golf..we are moving and hitting when ready..so take that with a grain of salt. There is plentiful parking and the pro shop is stacked with whatever you need. Staff was friendly and no sense of pretenciouness (sic) at all. Everyone seemed happy and helpful. For the price per player this place is fantastic. I'll cut to the chase - fairways are in great shape, spotty some places, but that's the norm for pub courses right? Most fairways are wide so you can't miss - I hope. There are a few doglegs which make it for a fun, interesting layout. We played with a local and got some tips..but the doglegs are true. The greens are in excellent shape and I say they are on the med-fast side..as the day progessed. One caveat is the LL course is fairly hilly so if you are a walker - prepare for that. I am a cart pusher and in fairly good shape, but it was a good workout..but still loved it. The par 3's are on the long side..we played from the Blue's and no par 3 was under 170..there was one that played to about 205 (taking windage and elev)..the LL course def tests your mid to long game. Tee boxes are HUGE so many places to tee off from. Overall for the price - you can't go wrong

The bunkers appeared to be in good condition (not in any today). The tee boxes are mildly unlevel but have decent coverage. I enjoy the varied layout with some holes having rolling terrain and a few holes with water in play. The staff was friendly.
