Spur of the moment we went out to walk on. They let us go out 3 hours before a shotgun, then graciously let us finish even though the tournament was due to start. Course in better shape than it was a month ago. Greens still have lots of bare spots and are very bumpy. The refurbished about half the tee boxes. Nice addition. THEY ARE OVERSEEDING on Oct. 5th and 6th. If you don't get out this week, wait a month or so.

Conditions are good considering the time of year. Lack of rain and heat in spring have strained the grasses on all the courses in the area. Tee renovation is taking place all over the course and grass is being added to high traffic areas in the fairways. Good news is overseeding is just around the corner.

played at noon on Sunday 8/29 and pace was slow with 5 hr round. Tee boxes are beat up with lots of divot damage. Greens were slow & bumpy, but, still not a bad course especially at 1/2 price.

The Hills has taken a turn for the worse. Greens were in very bad shape. Bumpy and many dead spots on them. Fairways were furry. Rough was full of huge weeds. For a while it was in great shape and was a first choice. Now it plays like a true muni. For the $, Arroyo Trabuco is a better overall experience.
Also, the only thing the GPS is good for at San Juan is for the pro shop to continually send you ridiculous orders to keep up with the group in front of you while you're sitting on the tee waiting for the group in front of you to hit. Idiotic. But, I will say, the counter staff is always helpful and happy to see you.
For $8 more, play arroyo trabuco. Or, $17 less, walk San Clemente; it's in much better shape now.

Went back 8/12 on 30% off special. Pace 1 hr. faster than Sunday. Course still good; missed all the bunkers this time. Some tee boxes pretty bare but they were repairing alot of them and moved several blue tees to the whites. Best part is the cool ocean breeze at Inland prices.

Play date: August 2, 2004. All things considered, San Juan Hills is definitely one of the best public courses in all of Southern California. Very enjoyable. If it weren't for the overly zealous course Marshall and clubhouse personnel rushing what was a very normal play pace, our foursome would have had a near perfect day at San Juan Hills.

To Glen and Craig below: Yes, it's showing some wear and tear from summer traffic. In May it was in as good a shape as any of the inland empire courses that are same price or higher. It's no Oak Valley, but as far as I'm concerned, $32 to walk for the conditions is a steal. And, no I don't work there. I'm just happy there's an affordable course close to the ocean that treats you like a human being and is happy to have your business.

Needed to escape the heat and not break the bank. This little course was a lot of fun. Played longer then the yards, many interesting holes, and was in good shape. Was not too thrilled about finishing on a par 3 but at least it was a strong hole. For the money, I’d play here again.
