The course was in decent condition, although I thought the fairways were rather thin at times. I found th esand to be somewhat inconsistent, as some was "heavy" and other times not so much. The staff was fine and since I was first off, pace was perfect. I like the course, but the only thing that I found annoying was the GPS sceen had to be reset every hole to cancel the advertisement. What a pain!

After hearing strong reviews from friends and GK we decided to play on 12/29. A crisp clear day, good friends and a decent green fee of $60 for twilite were the best part of the day. I was disappointed with the quality of the greens - bumpy, bumpy and more bumpy. And somewhat slow. Pace of play was slow with waiting on most shots. As a result we did not finish. I was looking forward to hole 18 (you see the entire hole as you drive to the 10th tee - a long way) and number 16 which is the number one handicap hole.

I have played the game for many years and seldom see back to back par threes (holes 7 and 8) and the tee box on hole 15 can leave you clueless as were to aim (luckly the marshall came by to tell us). The course has many bunkers with excellent sand. One can actually splash the ball out.

The GPS system is excellent (distances to hazzards, the green and where the group in front is located - and their distance away. A few odd holes were local knowledge is a must.

I will give Telega another try in a few months when the conditions should improve and can finish.

Was not too happy when I was 180 according to the GPS and hit a winning shot to see it sail over the temporary green and land on the actual green. This was over by 30 yards. Why couldn't they program that into the GPS that it is a temporary green. Otherwise greatt course visually chanleging.

There's irrigation repairs on #9, so it has a temp green (it's very small and bumpy). Pace was good at around 4.5 hours. Courteous staff. Overall a great round and a great experience.

Played just after noon on a crowded Friday, 9/25/09, on a warm sunny day with fresh breezes. First time here after hearing a lot of recommendations and reading GK posts - had stayed away because of fairly remote location and cost - maybe that's come down lately as the rate was $75. Showed up as a single with no time (C4TT and golfnow don't have a single player option for this course) - staff was helpful and was working hard to get people out on time, as carts were being recycled as soon as they came in. Course reminds me on the back nine at Black Gold as it played up, down, and thru canyons with significant elevation changes and headwinds or crosswinds. Nice mix of holes, par 5s are challenging from the tees, many holes have doom close by the sides of the holes (water, canyons, dense brush marked as a lateral). Had some disappointing lies in the fairways, where lies could be spotty, and also inconsistent lies in the rough, which could be clumpy or thin. Greens were generally good - a little soft and held shots, but susceptible to spike marks around the hole, rolled well at medium-fast speed. As everywhere, lots of unrepaired ball marks. They are aerating beginning next week and tees were shaved down and markers all the way forward. Cart girl came by often, adequate water (but not if it was hotter), pace consistent with a crowded venue with lots of potential trouble (4.5 hrs). Recommended.

If you like to warm up like I do,get there extra early.You must get driven out to the driving range by shuttle in the morning and the range is no where close to the first tee.The starter was terrible.When I asked about the cart key not in the cart,he gave me an attitude and when I asked him about teeing off,he acted like he was the king of all kings and did not want to be bothered.

The course it self was very nice.The fairways were in great shape but the front nine greens were a little stressed, but very playable.The greens on the back were great.This is not a walking course.The drive from the 9th green to 10th tee is loooong! Be ready for your tee shot at 15.Hit just left of the bunker in the distance,it will be the only thing you can see from the tee.Enjoy!

I played here on Saturday, August 22nd for the first time in several years. I was expecting top notch conditions but was very disappointed by the greens. I felt that the fairways and tees were in great shape, but the greens were absolutely unacceptable. There were at least 5 or 6 greens with large amounts of turf loss where they had to be re-sodded. We're not talking about small patches, but rather huge sections of the green. All of the greens were quite bumpy and I felt like they were very slow as well. It bothers me that people knock on muni courses like San Clemente or Rancho San Jaoquin for having poor greens but their greens are way better than these and at half the price!

However, Talega is a beautiful track with a fun and unique layout and my group really enjoyed the amenities and the day out. Service from the cart staff and the beverage cart was excellent. Fix the greens and Talega is right up there with the top courses in Southern California.

This is a fabulous golf course. I totally enjoyed my experience at the course. I arrived at 5:45am as a single and was paired with a 2-some. We played in about 3 hours. Our tee time was 6:00am but we moved back to 6:15 or so to allow 2 fast playing member groups to get off 1st. We never saw them again. One item I thought was strange was the cart and bag people didn't start work until 6:00am was the exact time of the 1st tee time. So there is no way the 1st group could tee off on time. The clubhouse staff was excellent. The course was in great condition. The greens were a little marked up but seemed to roll well. The GPS was very helpful. The course was scenic and well worth the price. I will definitely return.
