Played today at 2:30, $36 twilight rate. Barely finished at dark. 5+ hour round, not a good thing. At one point two groups in front of us joined up to make a 7-some. No marshal on the course to prevent idiocy like this, no beverage cart either. Conditions were average throughout, the only thing that's really worth mentioning is that the greens are pretty inconsistent from one to the next. Most were pretty soft, but 17 and 18 stick out in my mind as rock-hard and not holding shots at all. Some were fast, some slow, some in the middle. This course is fairly easy, a good confidence-builder, but sometimes (like today) it's really not worth the hassle of dealing with the length of the round.

I have played this course many times. I call it the hang over course, as you can still have a solid score card at the end of your round after a night of cocktails.

It is open and flat with mostly flat greens. Average round is 4- 4.5 hours.

Sand traps are the only real danger on this course as they are very deep.

I will never play this course again! It took 5 hours and 30 minutes, yes 5 1/2 hours to play this flat 6000 yard course with not many places to lose your ball. What a joke. The people who play here... Continue »

The people who play here have no golf etiquette. The people in front of us were clueless. On the positive side the conditions were not too bad. The greens a little bumpy and the tees were roughed up a bit. Even if the conditions were perfect a 5 1/2 hour round is ridiculous. good bye Willowick :(

I haven't played Willowick for years and was never too excited about this course. Played their last Friday (10/7) afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. Pace was a little slow, but not bad for this usually crowded course. $26 to walk and is one of the easiest walking courses around. This is by far the best shape I've ever seen this course. From tees to greens, it was in good shape. Great course for a beginner. Fairways are wide, no water at all, not too long. Most holes have one big, gnarly bunker protecting it, which is where the challenges lie. Hit into those and it can be tough. Avoid them and you'll probably post a great score and get a nice confidence boost by day's end. Lots of trees. If you are wild off the tees or with your approach shots, they can come into play, but otherwise it's very wide open with lots of margin for error.

Played Wednesday 8/10/11 with the birdy savings card - it was only 15 bucks to walk! The skinny - pace of play was great, finished in just under 4 hours (at da 'wick - this is excellent time). Conditions weren't too bad, fairway didn't have any bare spots, rough almost non-existant, greens rolling a little on the slow side. It was a great day!

Played Willowick (Santa Ana, CA) for the first time based on a "coupon special" that my brother invited me to, so I said "why not?" I am definitely interested in playing new tracks and based on the mediocre reviews here on GK, I thought I would give her a go.

This track is located in Santa Ana, CA and is conveniently located off of either the 5 or 55 freeways. It is an older course but, visually maintained from doing a quick scan from the parking lot. There is a practice green and a driving range.

The pro shop looks like it could use some help. I peeked inside and noticed only Willowick branded merchandise, a few boxes of golf balls and packages of tees. Don't expect much at all if you are looking to acquire anything different. The started behind the counter was relatively friendly and honored our coupon and called for a couple of carts.

The first tee box is located just outside the started window and at times, there is always a group of people just lounging around sitting on the brick wall. You can't really tell who is in the group in front, or behind you. Consider it a small "gallery" if you will - LOL.

This is a short course with a beginner friendly layout and slope. The first hole is a straight away Par 4 that looks almost driveable. Greens were medium speed with no breaks, multi-tiers, or false fronts. The greens here are decent size and have minimum guarding from bunkers. One thing I did notice was there are a lot of trees - old, tall and thick trees.

There were many tee boxes that were being repaired and many that were unlevel. Lots of unrepaired divot marks. The fairways were average at best with the rough being your typical muni-style rough with little to no vegetation.

I thought it was going to be an "average" day until we started to get backed up immediately. The group in front of us had a pair of carts with dead batteries by hole 2. Slow play at this track is normal. Five-somes after five-somes ruled. I was told by my playing partners that errant shots are normal and he wasn't lying!

Playing here was like dying slow. The group(s) in front of us look like they were playing army golf (left-right-left-right). It took over 6-hours to finally finish this mess. No beverage cart made it worse. All in all, I won't be going back to this track - even with a coupon.

Consider yourself warned and play at your own risk!

Played Saturday 7/02 at 11:00 as part of a four-team scramble event. It took about 5 1/2 hours to finish, and not because of the scramble...I was in the first group and we waited on every shot. Typical Willowick weekend round, can't complain if you understand that's what you're in for. Course conditions were average for the most part, except for the greens...they were slow as usual, but way more bumpy than I have experienced in the past. Could not keep putts on line at all. If you plan on playing here in the near future, know that you should take almost all perceived break out of the equation and just take an aggressive run directly at the hole to have a chance of making any putts.
