Great course! And for only $25.00 which was the internet fee. We finished in just under 4 hrs. But a question? We work in construction and we noticed hardly any new homes going up and the clubhouse looks about 90% completed but ther was no progress on it. It looks like a job in trouble. I hope it isn"t because I loved playing at Escena. All the employees are first-class, friendly and very helpful. The unused clubhouse has a futuristic design. Cool!

I agree 100% with Flyboy1. My home is 2 miles away from Escena. It is a well maintained track with a challenging layout and they have great rates in during the summer. The course is one of my favorites in the Palm Springs area.

However, the starter really is a strange guy. I have played Escena many times and his presence can really turn things sour. He is very controlling, has an attitude of superiority, and just makes strange decisions. Given that Lennar has stopped construction on their clubhouse and the surrounding homes, and they don't have a driving range, he really needs to tone down the elitist attitude.

The other staff are always polite and friendly. It's amazing how one guy with a clipboard can make things miserable.

Me and a buddy played last friday. We had a tee time at 9:20, but we got there 45 minutes early. The starter was a little paranoid and asked us to check-in immediately. We told him we wanted to relax and just hit some putts. He told us that if we didn't check-in, there would be no guarantee that they'd be able to hold our tee time. I thought that was rediculous for many reason (which I will not elucidate here), on top of the fact that there were less than 20 cars in the parking lot. We acquiesced, and we got paired with two other guys. I thought this was kind of silly since there was hardly anyone out there. I really don't understand why golf courses insist on putting people together when it isn't crowded. Adding insult to injury, they stuck a twosome behind us. These people are retarded.

Anyway, the course was a little burned out, but that is to be expected since they were planning to overseed and aerate a week later. But compared to many courses in the Palm Springs area, this course was in very good shape. I played PGA West a month ago, and Escena was in a little better shape, and was 1/3rd the price. It was REALLY windy, say, 30 to 40 mph pretty much all day. There are a few more holes into the wind than downwind, and a few crosswind holes. In windy conditions, this course is as tough as you'll find. The first hole was 611 yards, into the wind. Needless to say, it was playing tougher than it would normally. If the wind isn't a factor, I'd say this course is of medium to medium-high difficulty. But with the windy conditions, the way the course is designed makes it really challenging. Fun course. Next time I'm in the area, I'll play it again, especially for $25!!

Need more consistency with refreshments on the course especially without a clubhouse at the turn. I will play this one many more times.

First time I have played here. Fun track with plenty of challenge. Played 2 rounds and enjoyed both. Bunkers have big pebbles in them and are a little thin, but no other complaints.

I have to agree with the person below, this course is not an 8.5; its probably a little below that with exception of the greens which are a 9.0. Given the high rating, I was expecting much more out of the course. Not saying anything bad about the course, just that I was expecting more. Maybe it was all the construction that detracted from the course. When the clubhouse is built and construction around the course is complete, it might be more visually appealing. By the way, plans for a driving range are on hold since the city won't give the course the building permits to build it at the planned location, so the warm up nets will be there for a while. On a positive note, I shot my lowest score ever and had a great time. I'll be back, but maybe next year when all the construction is completed.

Ok, seriously, greenskeeper members, let's be honest when rating courses. There is no way that Escena can be an 8.85, or whatever it currently is listed as. Pretty much the only good thing about this course was the customer service and the scenery of the course(waterfalls, lakes, etc.) The teeboxes were covered with small stones, parts of the fairways were thin and brown, the greens (which were punched and sanded a couple of weeks ago) were still in sad shape, and the bunkers were absolutely horrible - hardly any sand and filled with stones. Oh, and not to mention the construction right next the many of the holes. On one tee box, we had to try and tune out a cement mixer while teeing off. To be honest, for $30 on a Sat. mid-morning, it almost wasn't worth coming out from Riverside. Alot of potential, but won't be back until the course is in much better shape. Maybe it gets alot better during fall/winter.
