I played this course on 1/7. Green fee was $55 with GolfQ.com coupon. It has nice layout. However, fairways were sub par and sand traps were hard. I would not pay $105, but for $55, I will play again... Continue »

Well...I had not played this course in a long time. I finally got talked into it last Saturday. I remember it being a tough layout. Still is. I remember it being a first-class golf facility. Well - not so much any more. We got a discount because they had just recently overseeded, which, this time of year, you expect here in So. Cal. - but - come ON, Troon Golf!! What's the story here?? There was trash all over the place! We got "free golf balls" on the range, but - not so fun when you have to find balls to hit and collect your own! The overseeding is one thing - but - the over-watering was inexcusable! Over-watering? Sheesh! It was a freaking QUAGMIRE, and I'm not bulls%$#@#ing! It was freaking FLOODED out there. "Casual water" is one thing - but it hasn't rained in over a month!! "Sand traps" were more like "water hazards". And, flooded fairways are one thing - but FLOODED TEE BOXES?? There's no excuse for that! Since it was "cart path only" on all of the holes (I'm not complaining about that - we were warned and got a discount on fees) - my golf shoes were as soaked as if I had played in a heavy rainstorm!! "Squish....squish....squish..." Just criminal! I'm not a professional greenskeeper, I don't even LIKE gardening - but - dear God - when does "watering the grass" become "Hmmm...let's make rice paddies"?? NOT a fun day! Greens were actually O.K. - then heed to be mowed and rolled as they were inconsistent (probably due to erratic watering patterns) - some fast - some slow - but - as you can probably guess - they sure held all shots well! Fairways, where you were not in ankle-deep water, were really not too bad - the new growth of "winter rye" (I'm guessing that's waht it is) is actually coming in nicely. If the water problem is allowed to soak in - the course may be back in tip-top shape. But - memo to Troon Golf - the empty Gatorade bottles and candy wrappers look awful! Oh - and a note about slow-play...if the course is listed as cart-path only - you better have a full five-hours to kill! We waited on EVERY shot - no b.s. There are better places to play - Goose Creek, Oak Quarry....heck - just about anyplace! It's been a week now. I wonder if my shoes are dry yet!
