I had the opportunity to play here today as a preview round. It wasn't too busy at all out there, so it was a nice quick round under 3 hours. The staff was very friendly and nice.

I almost feel bad reviewing the course today because I definitely did not catch it at its best and I know it is probably better most of the time. It seems they have been going through an ownership transition, so they decided not to overseed this year. That means the fairways are completely dormant and the rough is kind of a hodge podge of coverage. The tee boxes were all pretty good and the fairways were reasonably playable, just thin and dried out. The rough was hit or miss, but mostly cut down and not too much trouble. Around the tee boxes and greens, the grass was greener and definitely nicer, but still a little spotty. The bunkers had good sand. The greens were also nice and easily the highlight of the course. They were soft and rolling smooth at medium speeds.

It was unfortunate my first experience here was when the conditions were unusually weak. It is what it is, but I imagine the course looks and plays much better during the spring/summer and when they do an overseed for fall/winter most years. The layout is pretty simple and old school (William P. Bell) and unfortunately the dormant turf made it hard to appreciate any subtle contours and design elements. Still, for the most part, what you see is what you get.
