Got out today for twilight and found the course in very good shape. I noticed the back tee areas on holes #11 and #15 have been leveled and extended back about 10 yards each.
Tees: level enough and large enough to find some leg room
Fairways: well covered, some in need of a trim so not running out much at all
Rough: 2 to 3 inches and sticky, really, really sticky, no easy out
Bunkers: mostly manicured with decent coverage some better than others, I was in two and they played well
Greens: niiiiiice! smooth rolling, bordering on fast, receptive
POP: 4.5, the group ahead of us played in just over 4, we had two young military guys who are learning, I helped them to move along and thanked them for their service. As far as I'm concerned they deserve a bit more time to finish, they earned it!

I played in the rain but had lots of fun. Course is on the shorter side, but it's very tight on some holes. Rough was longer than most courses around here and has to be taken into account when you miss the fairway. Bunkers were soaked for me, but I'm guessing they'd be good when dry. Green were great and probably the highlight. Very smooth and true. Course rewards local knowledge. Big false front on 18. Fair price. Reccomended course.

Weather conditions mostly brutal, course conditions pretty good. Even with the rain the greens were pretty darn fast and rolling smooth. Fairways thin in spots but plenty playable. Rough 2" to 3" and mostly plush. Bunkers full of good white sand. With this rain conditions should just get better. When the weather calms down, get on out there!

Found the course to be in decently playable shape today. A bit rough on the first few holes as the rain washed that low area of the course out quite a bit, but it has all been cleaned up quite well. Greens were mostly in good to very good condition, some better than others. POP was good at just over 4 hours, first off at twilight.
No where near pristine right now, but plenty playable all around.

We had a 10 AM tee time to start off the new year. There were few players on the course and our starter Danny sent us off as a 2-some. Mary and I play pretty fast and since we hadn't played here in a while, we were really impressed with all the work done recently on the course. New cart paths were great and the course was in good condition for this time of the year. The bunkers I found had good sand and they have cleared out much of the trouble on the sides of the course. Always a good test and varied terrain requires some thinking.

Had a great time with the boss, a retired co-worker and the boss's buddy at Balboa. Cold morning, teed off at 8:30 am sharp thanks to great starter Gary, good job bro. John in the office got my expired resident card up to date in a hurry, Customer service= great job, guys.

Overall, Course was in very playable for winter conditions. Teeboxes a little un-level and chewed up, but can't complain, always seemed to manage to find a good enough spot for the peg. Fairways were a little soggy, but we got some rain the night before, about 1/4" so that's to be expected. Usually had some pretty good lies for the most part, so could be worse. The rough was not too penal, pretty short and playable. Found one trap and it was good, nice and fluffy. The greens, wow, very fast and were in great shape. A couple of them had some "cancer" issues on a few parts, but overall they were great. Very receptive, but super duper fast! look out.

Go ahead and get out there if you have a chance, it's in good shape and playing fast.

Played Balboa Thursday Dec 17th at 11:00. I am on a quest to golf nomad and finish playing every course in San Diego Balboa was first on the list. The course is a muni and it is in muni condition. Not terrible but, not great. Bunkers are average to below average. Fairways are above average. Greens are above average. The course itself (we played from back tees) is very tight and risk reward. I hit 3 wood off many tees. It was a good test and I enjoyed it.

First off at twilight 12:30, finished in a bit over 4 hours. The course is decently playable shape, greens are the best part and are in very good condition right now. There are a few rough areas around greens, on edges of fairways and a couple on greens but nothing that interferes too badly.

Conditions about the same as my last report except the greens were very fast today.
