For the JC Card rate, this course is a bargain. True target golf at its best. Maybe 3-4 holes where driver is the right club off the tee, the rest make you think and place an emphasis on precision vs. length. Greens are in fantastic shape, lots of slope and undulation to defend against the lack of length on this track. Only gripe is that we saw the beer cart just once all day. Other than that, this course is worth the drive. Bring a few extra balls if you spray it off the tee, otherwise you can score well here.

I walked on 2/9 at 1:30PM and got 18 in. The starter was very accomidating, letting me go as a single. I later paired up with a twosome. The course is in very good shape. I normally play in the OC and most courses are suffering with winter conditions but Mt. Woodson is in very good shape. The fairways were punched a week prior but did not hinder approach shots. The greens were in great shape. The sand traps were consistently good. At only 6000 yards, it sounds short but with the elevation changes, it is an enjoyable experience. This course is a must play but bring your accuracy or extra balls. I will definitely return.

Played this course on 6/16/06. My first time on this course. The Course layout was amazing considering how rocky the Mt. Woodson area is. There are huge boulders that lie about just off the fairways. The wooden bridge that go from the 2nd green to 3rd tee? was pretty neat. You cannot walk this course. It is just too hilly and the distance between greens and tee boxes on some of the holes is just too far.

Oveall the course was in very good shape. The heat is a problem since some of the fairways seem to need watering. The fairways were green but seemed to be a bit dry.

It is a fun course, the fairways seem narrow from the tee but are wide enough. I lost three balls, but still shot a 92. Not bad for a first time out.

This is one of my favorite courses among the other 30+ courses in SD. It looks short from the scorecard but it forces me to really focus on hitting fairways and greens. A small slice or hook tee shot the ball is gone for good. The par 3 are a lot of fun b/c you will be hitting from one hill to the green down the hills. The handicap 1 par 4 is super fun b/c you need both good tee shot to carry the bushes and another perferct mid-long iron to hit onto the green 2 floors higher. I usually play on weekday afternoon so the pace is pretty decent. Sometimes I finish in 3/3.5 hours. The green and fairway conditions are usually in great shape. My only complaint is the sand, they really should fluff it more often. Overall I highly recommend this course.

I played 2 rounds on 5/23/06. The first round was in the late morning. I played from the blues - only 6000 yards. "Piece of cake", I said to myself. That was until the wind kicked up. Needless to say, the course kicked my butt. The afternoon round was still tough - even though I played from whites. However, my afternoon round was 7 strokes better than the morning round.

Since I live very near by, I golf here often. The course was generally in good shape. The fairways were neatly mowed and in lush, green condition. The rough was not terribly high, but high enough to be challenging. The bunkers were in poor condition - perhaps due to the recent rain. They really need to fluff the sand or add sand to the bunkers. There is nothing more frustrating than to make a perfectly good swing in the bunker only to hit hard pay and to bounce into the ball and skull it. The greens were in pretty good shape, but they were bumpy and slower than they usually are. I think with the rain we had the night before they hadn't yet been mowed.

I still think this is a great track, one of the best in SD. It puts emphasis on shot making rather than distance. I only use driver on 5 holes. The rest of them are irons, rescues or fairway woods. If the greens had been rolling truer, it probably would have saved me 2 strokes per side. It's unfortunate because the greens here are typically in great shape.

The course is up for sale, so I'm concerned that they might start cutting corners on maintenance. I hope that won't be the case. I know that JC Resorts wants to continue managing the course, so hopefully, they won't let the condition slide downhill. So stay posted and I'll let you know, as I usually play there once a week in the summer daylight horus.

Played 5-16-06. Course was in fantastic shape. Short track with an emphasis on shot making. Greens rolled slow-medium. Breathtaking views off some of the tee boxes. Only complaint is the lack of a driving range. Definitely worth the greens fees. POP was 3.25 hrs. Will play course again soon.
