Overall, this facility plays as close to private/country club as you can get for open tee times. To date, this course is holding excellent conditions. From the tee to the green, overall is a 10+. Although, this course is not easy; I reminisce this track plays close to Lost Canyons in Los Angeles. We drove from downtown San Diego to play this track. Tee shots need to be dialed in, as there is no trickle effect or member bounce to be had on this track. Many times, tee shots, and even approach shots, are taken through a small opening of overhang. Not ridiculously punishing, but enough to make it interesting. Approach shots are where the first-time player will get in trouble… to be long is to be gone. Many of the greens sit island style, with long or errant side shots off into the vegetation. I ended up playing all my approaches to the front of the green and it made a dramatic difference on the back side. Greens are in great condition. Putt true, speed reminiscent to those at Salt Creek; pretty quick, but okay. The club house is what you'd expect from a true Club style facility, IF you're used to playing private clubs. Although, pack water; there's only one water station on the whole course and we only saw the cart girl once. But to be fair, there was barley anyone on the course. To my next point - we played Sunday, 1:20… and not a soul on the course. I know we had a threesome behind us, but it was wide open. Pace of play was excellent. We got in just around four hours. If you don't have a laser, you'll spend some time trying to figure out your shots. GPS is so-so, but the reception was not good enough for accurate readings. Like a fool, I didn't ask for a yardage book at the clubhouse, but they have them for players, and they will help - IMMENSELY. The clubhouse was fantastic, the food was good and the service was what I've experienced at private/country clubs, form the pro shop to the bar. Will be back, for sure.
