I played on 04/30 and the course was in very good condition. This was my second time playing the course and I really like it. It is a good value and the layout is a good challenge. My only very slight criticisms would be a couple thin and somewhat hard bunkers, slightly brown greens and fairways, and some minor ball markings on the greens. None of these issues really affected overall play and my overall impression of this course is high. I definitely would recommend playing this course.

This course is in great shape right now. Rough is up in areas, Fairways in great shape-Nice and Firm and fast and the greens are in perfect shape and fast. Sand was firm and the only thing not great on the course right now. I personally love this track and think it is fun and challenging. Cant wait to get back out here to play again.

Played at 7 am in late December and other than cold temperatures and a little fog, conditions were good. The tee boxes were in great shape, fairways well maintained and green, and the greens a little soft on the approach, but held good speed and lines. We were one of the first groups out and played in about 4 1/2 hours (our fault, not the course's). We were not pushed because it wasn't that busy until late morning.

Wanted to see this place for a while. Now, I'm not sure why. It's evident why this place can't attract members. The course is deviod of interest. The land was very well suited for a very interesting course, but the chance was blown. The par 5's all have forced carries in front of the greens, with variations of the theme with no real risk reward options to make off the tees on the non par 3 holes. The par 3's themsleves as a collection are ho hum. There seems to be a bit of the same type of green complex used over and over again, ie, boomerang. There is no room off the tees at all and no safe place for the lesser player to bail out. Decision making does not really come into play and the shot is dictated for you, for the most part. In addition, the course is unwalkable, a huge minus for me. The facilities themselves are very nice, with one of the nicest clubhouse's in the San Diego area. That's just not enough in my book to fork over the initiation fee, as it doesn't cover up the fact that the course is very mediocre.

Played in the late afternoon on Thursday, 5/6/10, on a warm sunny day with only light breezes. I had seen good reviews on GK and wanted to give this a try - had a morning meeting in San Diego and hit it on the way back, otherwise would not usually drive this far. Very pleased with overall course look and conditioning. Pro shop guy was very welcoming and found me a game with a member who provided valuable info on the holes. No cart girl this late, but pro shop guy got me a sandwich from the restauranrt and delivered it on the third tee! Bottled water in coolers at several holes. Pace was pretty good - after only short waits on the first few holes a 3some allowed us through on #8 and we flew around the rest of the way, finishing in ~3.5 hrs.

Grrens were punched a few weeks ago and still show signs, and were much slower than I expected - I left many putts short. They were fairly soft and receptive. Wasn't in a bunker, but playing partner had no complaints from his experience today. Fairways were firm and cut very close - generally good lies that sat up well. Many holes surrounded by natural areas and drainages marked as hazards. Some substantial elevation changes, especially on the front nine. Some similarity of holes (1, 11, 13 are all similar downhill par 4s, for example), but otherwise a mix of up, down, and sideways across the broad hillside/arroyos where the course is draped. Three of the 4 par 5s reqire crossing a natural area/creek just in front of the green, and several green approaches are framed by large trees, making being on the correct side of the fairway important. Overall a fun course that I would like to play again. Highly recommended. Course is coming out of financial trouble and will eventually revert to private - play it while you can.

The golf course is a lot of fun to play. You need to play it a couple time to be able to score. The course has great character.

I try to play this course at least once a month. It is one of the greatest values considering I like to use the driving range for a good hour before a round and the cost of range balls is about $15 for that many balls (at least). I also enjoy the included water that is on the course (not to mention it is ice cold!). The sandwiches are terrific and only about $5. Afterwards, they have a hot tub where after a very cold day, it feels great to take a dip and warm up (also included). It is very difficult to beat a day at the Golf Club of California.

Now the course... It is very challlenging for me since I'm a newer player but I do enjoy the challenge. I play 10 strokes less on any other course just by playing on this one the most. The greens are very challenging and the pin placements are awesome. I really like the staff as well. I would like to see a better selection in the pro shop and I would also like to see more drink specials but other than that, I love a day at the Golf Club of California.

Had a great time, course is challenging, fairways starting to come in nicely, greens were in great shape as well as the bunkers. Recommend buying tthe course book for $5--great green descriptions and some holes have ravines you don't see from the tee box. Course is challenging but not brutal. Customer service was very good, will definitely return.

In addition....I should have mentioned range balls were included as were bottles of water throughout the course.
