Played course last weekend to get away from the valley heat plus relatives in the area. I liked the course but for the price I thought it would be better. It is quite short from the back tees and has some severe doglegs on a couple of holes, 90 degrees left from the tee on 1 par 5 with 2nd shot about 45 degrees right. I would probably play it again just because of the staff and patrons...they are pretty laid back in Santa Barbara so it makes for a relaxing round. They also have a real nice Bar and Resturant.

Beautiful scenery. Great customer service. Reasonable rates. Questionable layout. Too many holes with substantial elevation changes and blind shots. Fairways are narrow. More sand than needed. My advice to course management: If your customer base is single-handicappers then leave it as-is. If the golfers are more mainstream, then I suggest removing some bunkers, cut some trees and move some tees to allow a view of the fairway/green. Locals may love the quirky challenge but I expect many visitors are like me. Too much challenge to decide where and what to hit—constantly. Smooth it out and simplify—please!

Played on Sunday, June 28. Got word that that course is closing on Monday, July 6 and I wanted to play the course before it went away. Considering the announcement came only 5 days earlier, the course was in great condition and the pace of play was a little slower than normal as more people were playing.

Normally, I walk, but playing any course for the first time, I don't mind riding. I got paired up with 2 locals who had only played the course once and got on to play the twilight rate with cart for $50 (non-resident rate). For that price, it was well worth playing. Local knowledge is helpful, and the afternoon wind can play a little havoc with all shots.

You have to be careful with all shots as the wayward shots can find the tall deep grass. Water only comes into play on a couple holes. Trees are not significant factor; however, side hill lies are fairly common as the course meanders up and down hills. Adding to the rolling nature of the course, most greens have slope and several have different tier complexes on the greens, so it is important to pay attention to the pin placement and the green diagram that is on the cart.

Great course, great views, and quite challenging - that is all one can ask for from their golf course.

It is truly a sad day when any golf course closes, and it is especially disheartening when a course isn’t given a chance to work its way out of its financial losses. Not only does the golf course lose, but the city and the community as 75 jobs (and families) are affected by the closure. Along with Cypress Golf Club and Cascades Golf Club (Sylmar), this is another local course that bites the dust.

Due to financial problems and a group of idiots in the Goleta city council the owners of Glen Annie have chose to close the course for good on July 6.

Played Glen Annie with Toprank early morning 5/2 with Red Dot Book 2 for 1 special. First time playing this course. We played the tips and the wind swirled and was strong for most of the day. Glen Annie starts you out with two short manageable par 3's but lets you finish with a couple of tough par 3's on #9 and #17. What an interesting layout if you have never played here before. Lots of elevated tee boxes to let the driver rip. There are some target golf holes where you need someone to tell you exactly where to land. With all that being said I thought there was only one "quirky hole" ....so hey pretty good. The golf course is really cool and I would say it's a "fun" golf course. Some tough par 5's. The fairways did not look that great but I never had a bad lie in the fairway...so no complaints there. The greens were punched a month ago and have almost full recovered in my mind and rolled fairly true throughout the day...very minimal bumps if anything. Hardly any ballmarks on the greens..they were in good shape. The sand was decent..thin in some spots. The rough was thick in some spots around the green and lush and in good shape. The tee boxes were lush and some tees needed leveling but overall they were in good shape. I was lucky to have a good ball striking round....but I can see big scores here on most holes if you are not semi-straight with the driver. The restaurant food was great after the round...cartbarn kids cool. The pace of play was OK and was slower on the back nine which is the tougher nine here at Annie. They have a nice putting green and a nice grass driving range. The views of this course are amazing as well as the peace of mind you get playing back in the mountains of SB. Walking this course would be a good workout on the back nine to say the least. We did not see one walker. Only real complaint is that the carts do not have GPS and it is hard to find sprinkler heads in the fairways as half of the sprinkler head yardage plates are torn off. Other than that an overall nice golfing experience.

The par 3 holes are all nice - they may be the only ones where you are assured a good stance and a look at the flag. I would go again just for the scenery and hopefully play a little better.

Played 9/24 at 10:30 in the morning. Course tough but fair but the roughs, they were really tough. Will come back when in the area. The starter got us out a bit early; everyone was helpful.

Played on a Sunday morning; it was not at all crowded. This is a kind of a beat up tract with substantial elevation changes on many of the holes, and it could use some TLC. The fairways had a lot of patches of dying grass and a number of damaged areas. Most of the greens were in need of a similar amount of maintenance as were the tee boxes. That being said, though, the course was quite playable. When in the fairway, I always had grass under my ball and my ball rolled fairly well on the greens.

What do you get for your $85 non tri-county rate? A bit of a short layout. 6400+ from the tips. The first several holes on the back 9 have a serene and isolated feel. It was nice to play those. The par 4’s run the gamut from a drivable 286-yard hole to the number 1 handicap, starting hole at 447 yards. There is one, I thought, unfair par 4 at 18. It’s only 353 yds from the tips, but there is a mostly obscured landing area that you must be on the right side of to get any kind of decent look at the green with 235 to the hazard to stop you from hitting anything but a mid to long iron. Any kind of miss hit off of the tee will initiate a geometrically progressive increase of your score. I plan to return to this course just to play this hole again.

The service was good, especially the starters who were accommodating and had a firm grasp on things (even if there wasn’t much action.) Beware of ordering from the “communication system” on the ninth tee, however. I was in the snack bar waiting for my hot dog when I heard someone trying to order some kind of sandwich with or without mayo from the talk box. While trying to serve me, the cook/cashier had pretty much given up on the thin voice coming out of the walkie-talkie lying on the counter. Hopefully that guy got his sandwich.
