Played Moorpark Country Club this past Friday morning. The golf course was in great shape as well as the greens being much faster then previous time I played. The Green speed was just over 11 according to the starters and it made a big difference in how the course played. We played in under 4 hours which was good for a Friday morning.

Out 9th- twilight; let us out early, no charge for a small bucket. Played Creekside/Cyn Crest [first time Cyn Crest]. Had not played here in over 2 years and was as good as recalled- it is worth a special effort to play here. Moorpark offers a variety of hole design and keeps the game enjoyable. Had heard criticism of Cyn Crest, I found it comparable in hole design with a tract home feel. Must hit the ball straight on all the 9’s or a big score awaits. As a two-some, cruised through in 3.5hrs no waiting anywhere.
All aspects of the course were great- greens have grain so be watchful. What was a slick downhill putt may not be on the next hole. Ran true. Fairways were near immaculate. In a single bunker [fried egg #3/Cyn Crest] and the sand was perfect. Clubhouse customer service was also very helpful- overall a fine afternoon of golf.

the greens are slow, slow, slow! the greens have not sped up since they aerated months ago. everyone i talked to at the course agreed. the guys in the pro shop said 8.5 on the stimp! one thing moorpark was always known for is the greens and for some reason they are not speeding them up. fairway rough was up as well. killed any roll you may have needed. that was ok, but get the greens back up to speed!

Played here 5/22 with GK Staff. This course is a good test of golf. We played from the black tees and it made for a tough round. The ESA areas were not at all forgiving. Very heavy brush that just would not spit out any off line shots. Nice layout with great views around the course. The greens were a little different on each of the nines, I believe because of different aeration weeks, but no excuses for bad putting.
The fairways were fantastic if you could hit them, and the rough was... well rough. The sand was great in the two bunkers I got to experience.
Some blind tee shots could be a problem for first timers. The GPS on the carts was helpful, but I was looking for some little tips on each hole, that I have seen on some courses.
Very enjoyable golf experience, worth the trip out there! I will be back!!

Played here for the first time for the GK Staff outing on 5/22. I absolutely love this course. Lots of variety, great conditions and amazing views. First class facility. The restroom buildings on the course are better than most clubhouse facilities!

We played the Ridgeline/Creekside nines. This course was tough, but not brutal. If you stay out of trouble, par is no problem. I made 9 pars for my round. Unfortunately for me, you have to count the other 9 holes. The ESA's on this course gobble up wayward drives - hence 4 double bogies and 2 snowmen (ouch!). I did venture off the fairway down toward one of the creeks to look for one of my wayward drives - and found a golf ball graveyard. Came back up with 11 golf balls. Misery obviously loves company on this course.

The par threes are generally pretty long, but several of them are downhill. I especially like the 9th on Ridgeline - a long carry over a pond with the clubhouse in the background.

The weather was pretty good except for the short thundershower that had us taking refuge in one of the restroom facilities. Of course, it wouldn't be one of JohnnyGK's outings if we didn't get a little wet :-0.

Uncrowded conditions made for a very enjoyable round. The company of the 7 other GK staffers wasn't bad either :-).

Played 5/22 in GK Staff outing. Immaculate and pristine describe this place. Nice practice facility where you can chip, putt as well as hit longer shots. Excellent food/service in the Clubhouse Restaurant/Bar. The tees, fairways, traps and rough were all in super shape. Starter, Pro Shop & Maintanence workers were all 1st class.

The greens show which ones were aereated first, the Canyon Crest 9 was like putting on velvet, smooth and quick. The Ridgeline 9 was still excellent, but a bit bumpy and slower than the Canyon Crest 9. The Creekside 9 was in the middle of the other two nines.

There are three nines here. lets go over each, since they are radically different creatures.

Creekside (73.8/142) has the most water of the three nines and is fairly tight in addition to being the longest of the three nines from the tips. Two excellent long par 3's, a risk/reward short par 4 mixed in with several LONG par 4's and a reachable par 5 to finish. Probably the toughest of the three nines in my opinion. Several long carries to reach a safe landing area also make this a great test of golf.

Ridgeline (73.0/138) has 3 par three's, 3 par fours and 3 par 5's. Great contrast in holes, the par 5's vary from 527 - 660 from the tips. Two of the 3 par three's are over 200 yards from the tips while the other is "only" 174, but plays shorter since it's straight downhill. All the par fours are less than 400 yards and collectively potentially provide the most breathing room on this nine. This nine is reasonably, not ridiculously tight, but there is rarely a hole you can spray the ball much.

Canyon Crest (73.8/136) is the most open of the three nines. This side indexes higher than the Ridgeline but is the easiest of the three nines in my opinion. Less contrast than the other two nines, not as many spectacular views or elevation changes but still an excellent nine holes of golf. Only the 1st & 9th holes have water and it's 3432 yardage from the tips is more evenly spread out among all the holes......none are really short and none are really long & not as many forced carries from the tees.

Played Canyon Crest and Ridgeline today, 4/22. Creekside is closed due to aeration of the greens. Fairways and teeboxes are in nice condition. Since Canyon Crest's greens were punced about a month ago, they were fairly smooth and moderately fast. However, the greens on Ridgeline are still very slow and bumpy. I had several downhill putts, with the grain that I had to hit hard to get there. Longer putts were always at risk of hopping off line due to how bumpy the greens were. It made putting a little challenging. They probably won't be smooth for another week or so. Other than these greeens, the course is in good shape.
