Well, as promised (see my comments on Los Robles last week), I played Rustic on the 12th. Ok, now THIS is a golf course. Hard, fast and fun (I rolled a 3 wood onto the 13th green to 20 feet, and just missed the eagle.). The greens kicked my butt today. Couldn't make anything... no really... 42 putts– a 3 putt clinic. Nice, eh?

The fairways are perfect, the sand was nice, the greens were smooth, the wind was down, and it was a perfect weather day.

This is a great place to play golf (well, I'm not so sure I call what I did on Monday "playing golf", but you know what I mean...)!

The 30-40 mph Santa Ana winds made it extremely challenging. The view of the burnt hillsides from the October Fires was eerie, but the course is in great shape.

Rustic is in great shape and the greens today were very firm and medium-fast. Fairways are in good-to-great shape with only a few thin areas; divot damage isn't too bad right now. Tee boxes seem to be getting some attention from the grounds crew as I saw lots of seeded areas on them. Fifty bucks for a great walking course and a very stern test of golf just can't be beat, in m opinion. One day I just might figure out how to score here...

Rustic Canyon Golf Course ROCKS! Golf course was in great shape. Very different type of layout. Gigantic greens with gigantic aprons surrounding them. I don’t think I’ve ever had so many long and testing putts in my life. Open off the tee but spray one and you’ll pay for it. Lots of mean greenside bunkers and false fronts to deal with. Golf course plays a lot harder then its rating/slope. Pay attention to the pin sheets and bring your short game.

This was a nice change. There were no trees and water. The greens were killer. They are so undulated. That's where the game is played at this course is on the greens! The wind was blowing pretty strong and was blowing ash (from the fire) so they closed down the back nine. I was dissappointed but what can you do?
