Was just checking in to see everyone's opinions on Rustic Canyon, and was glad to see the warm reviews.

Being that I was at Rustic Canyon for much of the construction and during grow-in, as well as play it on a regular basis, I want to tell you the effort Jeff Hicks makes to keep this golf course in the best of shape given the parameters.

Some of you might grade RC as light or thin in some areas, especially in the rouge areas and off of the tee. This is INTENTIONAL, in an effort to let all of you golfers understand that this is a course that is based off the original nature of the site--it wasn't created. Most of the contours you see in the fairways were existing when the natural grasses of the area were cleared, much like the earlier courses from Golf's Golden Age in California, so please take-in and enjoy the nautral beauty of Happy Camp Canyon, and Rustic Canyon.

In an effort to help the cause to affordable golf, which yes, is kinda nervy since the recent price increase, but will help ions in the cause, if you happen to see a un-filled divot or pock mark on the greens or even in the fairways, properly attend to it. It makes the course great for all of us.

Enjoy Rustic Canyon. It was designed and built for all golfers in Southern California who like to play the way the game was meant to be played, and this is the type of course that when playing it, you become a better golfer because you are concentrating on hitting the shots you know how to hit, or have always wanted to try!

An uncommonly interesting course offering plenty of challenge but loads of playability. Clearly, this is a course you have to play a few times before you know how to get yourself around the greens and huge aprons. It's not in great shape at the moment - the greens are pretty hacked up and the tee boxes struck me as being quite badly damaged in some places. Still, it's an awesome value and an absolutely outstanding design. I'd like to go back and play golf on it, rather than doing what I did yesterday! By the way, the mapquest directions to this course will get you lost.

Will certainly play this course again. Links style course with large greens that take some practice. Putter used many times around these greens. Course in good shape and challenging.

Played a 4.5 hour round with an 8:50 tee time on Saturday. Greens are recovering pretty well from the aeration, although there are some spots that are getting a bit brown. In fact, I would say the course in general was a bit more brown than usual, but that could definitely be a product of all of the heat the area has been getting lately.

Played 8/20. A little disappointed since playing their several times before. The greens seem to be taking a beating and are not anywhere near as good as they used to be. They were just recently plugged so maybe they'll get a lot better over the next 30 days. There are definitely small bare spots around the greens which I don't believe the aerification will immediately help. They are also extremely thin and dry. The rest of the course seems a little less well maintained also. Maybe it's just the summer blahs, but I was disappointed in its conditioning. Still love the layout though and the $$$ to play. Very fairly priced. Good value.

Played sat., 8/16. Greens seem to be recovering nicely from aeration. Punched holes are pin-sized and don't hamper roll too terribly. The greens did seem a tad dry however, but otherwise, would expect them to be primo in another couple weeks. We finished in about 4 /12 hours w/ a saturday tee time of 9:30, not bad all things considered.

Very nice course especially the back nine. Pace of play is very slow.
