Played here 8/28 as a part of a 3 course tour of the greater Portland area with GK member Kassper7 on an absolutely perfect day, with a 9:00am tee time. Second time playing here and have grown to appreciate the difficulty and beauty of this course (in spite of my telling Perry that the course was "easy"; total lie). The conditions here were great and no issues at all today.

Tees: The blue tees had no major issues beyond the usual ones from wear and tear as day progressed.

Fairways: Great shape although, like the rest of the elements on the course, too wet for my liking of golf. This is did affect roll and occasionally lies.

Rough: The native areas and natural ESA areas of the course are far more penal than the rough.

Sand: Great bunkers. The sand is closer to Pebble and less like your local muni.

Greens: Highlight of the round; they were vibrant in color, glass-like in roll, and very fair in undulation.

ETC: Staff here is very mixed in that the pro shop/cart attendant/cart barn staff are very relaxed and the starter/marshal is perhaps overly friendly in that he came around 4 times to see if we were enjoying things/checking on our status; not a complaint, just interesting. Carts lacked seed/mix. Pace was great for a Sunday at a few seconds under 4.5 hours. Highly recommend as this place has never posted tee times at more than $55!

Got a little break in the weather today, so I headed out to Camas Meadows. Since I am staying in Vancouver, I wanted to get at least one round in on this side of the river. $43 with a cart for a 2:00 start. Not very busy, but I did work my way through 5 groups ahead of me and got around very quickly. Cart path only with a lot of walking from paths to greens and down to fairways. Aesthetically, it's nice to have the paths out of the way. Practically, though, it isn't ideal, especially when you know it will be CPO most of the winter here. It's a recipe for slow play and injuries because everything is very slick. I might have a slight concussion from a nasty (albeit probably hilarious for any onlookers) spill I took walking down the 45-degree slip-n-slide otherwise known as the big hill separating the cart path and fairway on the 9th hole!

Condition-wise, things are very lush and green throughout the course with all this wetness. It looks beautiful, maybe better from afar than up close in some areas. Everything was mushy and sopping wet after plenty of rain yesterday and this morning. Pretty much any lie could technically be considered "standing water." They can't do anything about mother nature making things so wet, but otherwise the conditions were good. Tee boxes, fairways and rough had great grass coverage. Bunkers wet, but with good sand. The greens were softened, which was probably a good thing because they felt like they might normally be fairly firm and fast. They definitely rolled smooth and rather quick on putts, pretty much completely healed from aeration at this point.

It was hard to fully enjoy the course with things so wet, but it is Washington in October, so it comes with the territory. This is a very fun, scenic and challenging layout with diversity in terrain and a lot of variety in hole designs. Plenty of trees and then some more open meadow spots as the name would suggest. Very enjoyable and highly recommended, and of course, you have to say howdy to Spider-Man hanging from the tree next to the 18th fairway!

Played the whites as a 4-some in carts in just over 4 1/2 hrs. The course is overall is great shape but many tee box and fairway unrepaired divots indicate little concern by players for maintaining the course lushness, which is disappointing for such a beautiful setting.

Same thing with greens as many ball marks have not been repaired causing bumpiness. They are re-shaping and refilling all sand traps with fluffy white sand but many are still GUR. The completed traps are wonderful!

I always look forward to playing here because it is in a beautiful setting and is very challenging.

Played an early morning round with NickEsquire1 who has already posted a very factual in depth review which is spot on in every detail. Challenging, difficult, tight and physically demanding to walk describe most of the holes here. Very few would I categorize as easy which is why I always ride here and play only from the white tees. To do otherwise at my skill level is inviting disaster. That said, I like this course for the challenge it presents, the beautiful setting, and the way they use technology. All the power carts are equipped with a large overhead GPS screens (with score keeping ability) and an automatic invitation to remotely order food from both the 8th and 17th holes.

1st time playing here, played the blues (6175/70.9/141) in 4h, 20m on their internet early bird rate of $32 to walk with Longtee400. VERY challenging course to walk, 5-6 holes have distances of hundreds of yards from one green to the next tee, plus it is constantly up/down small hills. While it's not a long course, most holes are narrow, and there are a combination of red stakes with green topped environmental areas, yellow hazard, OB and sure lost ball areas on both sides of every hole. Get crooked anywhere and you have a probable double bogey and add to your score from there for any other slip up's on that hole. I can see why the slope is so high here, it is a very visually intimidating course, especially the front nine. There are constant yellow and red hazards on this course, EVERY HOLE has a red or yellow hazard, many have both. Also, numerous holes have 100+ yard forced carries over marshland from the blue tees to reach the fairway. You rarely get a breather where a shot more than slightly offline isn't a big number waiting to happen. #18 is a very unique hole, a par 5 only 472 yards from the tips that is a 90% dogleg left through a narrow opening of trees. Not a driver hole off the tee for longer hitters. Definite risk/reward hole, there is a 20 yard wide lake in front of a very severely sloped green. Plus there is a fairway trap just on the fairway side of the lake. Question, what kind of sick, sadistic individual puts in a trap where you have a 25 yard bunker shot over a lake to a severely sloping green with OB not that far beyond the green? Depending on how conservative or aggressive you choose to be, there are anywhere from 3-6 holes on this course that are NOT driver holes unless you are super accurate and very straight. It definitely plays longer than a 6175 yard course from the blues because of that, I hit 3 or 4 iron on numerous par 4's to put it in the fairway. Note to self, probably a reason you played well today? This was a hard course to rate, because it played much better than it looked. The greens were smooth, medium fast and I saw the breaks very well here... yet many greens had large brownish patches on them that plain did not look good. Same for the fairways, my lies were usually good, but many fairways had brown areas as well. The traps were well maintained with fluffy sand. The tees were good, but not as well maintained as the rest of the course. A couple of holes had new tees under construction that looked to be about ready to go with some nasty looking sight lines behind the current gold tee areas. Therefore, this course is about to get longer with an even higher slope rating in the not too distant future. The primary rough was OK for shorter irons to hit out of, but much tougher to hit a longer iron out of. I would call it a 1/2 stroke penalty on many holes. If you missed the primary rough and got to the native stuff, forget it, knee deep and thick. Note that their Gold tees are 6631/73.0/146, this would be a very nasty course from the Golds. Many of the holes I was able to use irons off the tee to find the fairway from the blues... that would be a much more difficult strategy to implement from the Golds with 30-50 more yards in on most approach shots. I would not want to be hitting longer irons into many of these greens with hazards on 2 or 3 sides. The only negative was a Marshall who came by when we were on about #14 and said we were 1 1/2 holes behind and had everything backed up. The problem with his logic was that #1 was wide open when we teed off. A single caught us and made us a 4some, and we let a 2some riding play through on #9, those 2 were the only golfers we had seen in front of us all day. That was the group 1 1/2 holes in front he was referring to on #14. Considering many holes had 200-400 yard hikes from one green to the next tee, I'm surprised they were not farther ahead than that. While I appreciate his trying to do what he perceived to be his job, his knowledge of the actual situation was limited to say the least. Challenging but very fun course. One you probably want to ride unless you are a die hard walker. I will definitely play here again, and I'm just stupid enough to walk it in the heat again as well.
