Played Stonecreek on 1/4/13. Was the first group out on the day with a 7:12 AM tee time. Cost was $49.00 on a last minute special on Golfnow.com. Were delayed about 30 minutes due to a frost delay. Check in as easy, and the staff setup our carts for us. When we started play, I was a bit surprised as there was still a bit off frost on the course. Since I had a plane to catch later in the day, I didn't complain. The rough and sand traps were frozen when we started. The greens still had a bit of frost on them as well.

Once things thawed out a little, I got a better chance to see what condition the course was in. The greens were in nice shape, were fast but not lightning speeds. The fairways were okay considering the course was overseeded in the fall, but didn't stand out among the other courses I played in the area. The rough was not overseeded, so the grass was dormant and yellow. This made shots interesting and quite difficult. The course itself is a links-style layout which is different after playing a couple of days of desert courses.

All in all the course was okay, customer service was good; but for the probably rather pay a few more bucks for a little nicer course for the money.

played stonecreek 5/10/2012 - course is good condition, greens rolled true, started at 4:00 pm and finished at 7:15 PM, few burnt spots on some of the fairways, but will make sure to play again in aug when I make my second trip to phoenix. worth the money to play, usually play twice a year on my trips, course not as hard compared to 80's when course first built.

Played 4/14. I got an online rate of $39 for a 2:28p Tee time. It was 62 degrees, windy, and a chance of rain. Course was still very busy. They said they had over 200 players that day.

In general, the course was in very good condition. The fairways, rough, and sand traps were in very good shape. The greens rolled smooth an were med-fast. About a 10.5. The one exception were the Tee boxes with the gold markers. Many were not level and had many divots. (I guess their was a lot of play that day.)

The course has its own quirks and local knowledge. Holes 2 & 3 play around the driving range. The creek is on the right side of most holes. Avoid missing shots to the right and you will have a chance to play well.

Practice range is small. You can't hit your driver when the tees are up front. Chipping and pitching area are OK. The practice bunker always seems to be flooded. Good practice green. Beverage cart came around 3 times. Outside service was good. I'm amazed we finished our round in 4 1/2 hours. The front side took 2 hrs. 45 mins. It bunched up 2 groups deep on holes 3 & 6. After we played #10 it opened up the rest of the way.

Played May 1. Always meant to play here. Was originally supposed to be a links course with few trees and very thick rough. Now its more like most non desert courses. Course goes up and down the same wash as Camelback's Indian Bend course which is just SE of it. Has several nice holes and a few that feel squeezed in. Greens putted good but didn't hold to well. The traps were packed, with some wet and a couple full of water, trap along #3 was full of range balls. Fairways and rough were in good shape. Seems to be a popular course, will be back.

Played 8/14. It was $24 to play. An extra $5 got you 2 drinks. I've reviewed this course a few times in the past. It has its quirks & local knowledge. It has a small practice range. Hole #s 2 and 3 play around the range. The worst place to miss on this course is to the right because that's where most of the trouble is.

As far as conditions, the course was in good-fair shape. the fairways were good but had some bare spots. The rough was good and thick in some areas, thin in others. I was in a few traps. They were in good shape. They had enough sand and they weren't packed down. The greens I rated fair. They were soft and a little slower than usual. They were a little bumpy and putts had a tough time holding their line. They were sandy and thin.

The bev cart girl was excellent. She kept us all well supplied with ice, whether it was asked for or not.

Played April 15; 4 hours 20 minutes, good for a course that gets as much play as this course does. Numbers 2 and 3 remain somewhat dangerous as the driving range is between the 2 holes and there are lots of balls on 2 fairway and 3 bunker right, with some balls on the greens. Keep your head up on those 2 holes. Aside from that the course is very playable, the greens seemed a bit thin, however did not affect playability. Bunkers are ok to good. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We used the Eagle card which is a very good deal for the 6 Phoenix Eagle courses.

Played 11/7. $39+ tax. 1:27 tee time. Course came through its over seed in nice shape overall. You can drive on the rough now. Fairways are lush. Rough is dormant bermuda. It's thick and some of it is more than 3" tall. Sand traps were good. Greens were soft & smooth for the most part. Speed was about a 9. Golf carts have GPS. Course was very busy today. Beverage cart saw us 3 times. Just got it in playing in 4 hours 15 minutes. Played the last one in the dark. Ok practice area. You can't hit your driver off of the front of the range if you hit past 230 yards. Service was good. If your hungry, try the grilled chicken caesar wrap. It's excellent. Took a few photos of the front nine.

Played 5/19 with Car6789 in the Stonecreek $100 open. It was a 2-man scramble. With your entry fee you got one dozen Titleist Pro V1's, a hat, a $50 range card, lunch & prizes. They had 46 teams. Now the course... I agree with the last reviewer. The practice range interferes with the left sides of holes 2 & 3. It's also short. You can only hit your driver when the tee boxes are on the back of the range. The tournament was a 7:30 shotgun. Played the gold Tees. Overall the course conditions were good but soft. Fairways were in good shape. Had to carry drives since we weren't getting much roll. Rough was cut short & not difficult to play from. Greens would hold long irons hit into them. They were soft & true, rolling about 9. The staff did a great job running the tournament. Check-in went smoothly. They had a 10 min. & 5 min. call for everyone to be (at) their carts. This got the tournament off on time. The Beverage cart came around 4 times. We finished our round in 4 hrs. 15 mins. Lunch was mexican style buffet. They gave prizes for 3 closest to the pin holes, (2 men, 1 women.) They also gave prizes for 1st thru 4th place. The winner got a two night stay (at) the Embassy Suites(which is right next to the course) + a free foursome to Stonecreek. Other prizes ranged from PGA Store gift cards to free foursomes (at) other eagle golf properties. They said they plan to have more events this summer. One around father's day & a glow ball tournament. We played great in the scramble! We tied for 1st. Shot 61 for 10 under par. Took 2nd place since we made par on the pre- determined tie breaker hole, while the other team made birdie. Oh well, maybe next time.

Played May 15th. The course is part of the Embassy suites complex I think. Although it is a very playable course, with Stonecreek running through the course, we didn't get off to a good start. I hadn't played the course before. For some inexplicable reason, the driving range is between the 2nd and 3rd holes. Although a net protects parts of the 2nd fairway (for right handed hookers off the range tee boxes) there were balls in the bunker and on the fringe of the 2nd green from those who "heeled" (righties) or "shanked" (for lefties), from the range. The 3rd hole a par 3 of 165 yds, has no protection at all from the right handed "slicers" with literally dozens of balls in the huge trap on the left of the green, and many balls on the "fairway" in front of the green and this a 915 in the morning. My brother hit past pin high in the bunker, and balls were landing in the bunker from the range - I mean really who shouts "fore" from the range?. This is crazy with NO NET/FEENCE protecting the 3rd hole at all. It is very DANGEROUS. Does not really get you off to a good start. If you can survive those holes the course is an ok layout. Many of the greens are elevated which makes it interesting if you happen to hit short of the green (or long for that matter). Fairways are generous but the creek certainly comes into play. Greens were pretty good considering the heat this month. I didn't mind the course, although much better rates can be found at much better courses in the area. I don't know if I'd play this course again.
