Having just played Quintero gc, we were looking for something cheap and quick to play on Christmas Day. Foothill is conditioned nicely, not great but ok. Fairways were the best part and they were marginal compared to other courses we played. Greens were slow and bumpy.

I played here 3 years ago on Christmas Day and it was much nicer. I probably wouldn't return here, although customer service was pretty good.

Played this course Monday 4/15 as a single, matched up with two other singles. First time in 3 years I've returned; stopped playing here because the course always seemed like it was under repair, even to the point of having to hit around huge earthmovers in the middle of certain fairways. But I'm a whore for a really cheap GolfNow price, so off I went. Service in the clubhouse was good, as were the cart jockeys loading me up. Practice facilties: large grassy driving range, hitting off Astroturf mats (boo!). It appears there is an area on the opposite end of the range where balls can also be hit, but not sure if that is just for members only. Multiple putting greens and a practice bunker is also located by the driving range. This is one of those courses where the starter takes his job *very* seriously. I remember his, uh, unique personality from years ago and it hasn't changed. As for the course itself, greens were rolling as a 10 (they post a sign at the snack shop letting you know, along with the day's pin placement and weather forecast). Tee boxes were in good to very good shape, sending you out on what are generous fairways. Big hooks or slices will end up in the desert or someone's backyard. While not as bad as I recall, many fairways still had either freshly planted sod patches, were in the process of getting same, or were roped off GUR because of other damage. There were odd whitish muddy spots throughout the course, kind of a small dead zone that one would be very unlucky to land in. From my extensive experience in them, the bunkers were in very good condition, having been reconditioned in the past year (as I was told by one of my playing partners). Greens were generally true and relatively smooth. Bare spots in some areas, some unrepaired ball marks, and had some tricky break patterns to them. The larger greens were definitely challenging if you got on the wrong tier, but held balls into them all day. Overall, a decent course and a solid test for the typical golfer. Note: their scorecards have recommended tee boxes based upon the player's handicap. Even with other groups actually following the recommendations, pace of play was slow, clocking in a 4 hours, 20 minutes. CP

I played here today (April 8th) for the first time in a while. I play here a lot but after the review in January and the pictures that were posted I didn't play it until now. We did play in a howling wind and I mean howling....made playing extremely difficult. I wanted to see how much if any the course had improved. Generally speaking the greens were good, there were a few bare spots on a few greens but not too many. Some of the fairways were also dry, and some had bare/dead spots. The worst being #17 (the one in the picture in the earlier review. The course is coming back, the greens were firm and fast, but most would hold a shot....the exception being the downwind shots today, but that's not the fault of the greens/course, just the wind, and #17 never did hold a shot !!! I must say that the sand is excellent in the bunkers, a BIG improvement here. The tee boxes were pretty good, as was the rough. Hopefully the course will continue to improve, as this is a good layout. You can still get some very good deals on their website, some including lunch or breakfast.

The good: beautiful setting in the hills, great clubhouse, friendly helpful staff, good and challenging course layout, great pure white sand bunkers. The bad: greens were awful (many bare spots, bumpy, patchy and the speed varied with the conditions), the fairways were thin and bare in many places, the green collars were messed up on many holes, tee boxes were not level and in need of repair on many holes. After missing a couple 3' putts that bounced around like I was putting in the street, I decided to not keep score and enjoy the good things the course had going. It's a toss up whether it was worth $25. I definatly wouldn't pay $65

Played on May 11th. Early morning round, 2 of us were following a 5some of regulars. We were not held up at all. Course is drying out as a result of the extreme heat (and likely the change-over from winter to summer grass). Greens were firm, a bit bumpy at times but generally good. Never saw a cart girl at all. staff were friendly as per usual.

After playing this course last summer and rating it very low due to pretty much everything about the course has gone downhill fast it was great to it back in shape. After hearing they were bought by a different company the improvements or should I say just the general up keep with bringing the course back to life is a major win for them. Tee boxes were in good shape a little sloping on some but, nothing to complain about. Fairways were nice and plush, rough nothing to overly aggressive and the greens rolled true and semi fast. sand was in good shape but, Arizona sand is always a mystery with who knows what to expect with small rocks and or hard packed but, overall good shape. Went off at 8:00 am and breezed right through I'll be back and hope the up keep continues through the summer.

The fleet of new carts arrived today. No GPS, they used to have a good GPS system, and I'm not sure if they will be getting one or not - I forgot to ask! As well for some reason (new superintendent perhaps) there was no indication of the pin placements i.e. they were not indicated with colored flags, and no pin sheet, which they used to give out, so it was by guess and by golly !! However I think they are still getting adjusted to the new owners working some kinks out, and I would think that this may be resolved in the near future. Course is being worked on, and is looking good.

The Foothills has just (mid or late December 2011) been acquired by Ahwatukee golf properties, they own and operate 5 courses in the area including The Duke and Club West. Foothills has, in the past had some maintenance issues, as witnessed by some reviews over the past few years. I have always found it a very good layout, and "generally" in pretty good condition. Today December 27th, there was a 1 hour frost delay, which backed things up and led to a 5 hour round of golf today. The greens looked a bit thin, but held shots nicely, and putted very true. Fairways were good, with some divots in areas. Sand has never been really good here, somewhat inconsistent and with small stones in some bunkers, but bunkers are usually playable at least. Tee boxes had some divot damage as well, however I will put that down to a change of ownership/management, and therefore maintenance may have stalled for a bit. The previous Foothills carts with GPS were gone, with a fleet of terrible rental units, but new carts are coming the first week in January we were told. The staff were friendly, and accommodating with, it appeared the pro-shop staff being from either The Duke or Club West (just down the road). Other staff are mostly those that have been at Foothills for a bit. Food is still good. Rates {with the Ahwatukee Card(s)} were $59, although when I booked, a few days before it changed hands, I was told it would be $55, not a big deal, but....Still a good course and I hope that it continues that way, and conditions improve (not that they were bad). It is still a definite "play" on my list.

Played on 6-30-11 While we do expect some browning due to the Az summer and her temperatures, the fairways here were in need of some serious work. We were told the course was in good shape at the "Starter Shack" they dont open the club house anymore during the week to save money on air conditioning. Although the restaurant is open and the food is good. They said on some holes around the green there is new sod and would not like us to hit from it, which is fine but the fairways on every hole were very dissapointing. The tee boxes were in need of work and the sand was decent. As for the greens they were a little slow but, in REALLY good shape. For the price one can find a better course with more amenities.
