This was my second round yesterday. I had a 12:45 tee time, but was able to go off early by myself around 12:30. I played through a few other people along the way. Little slowed me down, though, and I was able to finish in just over 2 hours. Being that the SCW courses are such great values, it's impressive how good they keep the conditions during the late summer. Grandview was in great shape. The tee boxes were good. The fairways were maybe a bit too much on the fluffy side. Not much roll-out, but nice to hit from. The rough was generally very good, with a few inconsistencies here and there. The bunkers were crusty and relatively thin. Probably the weakest aspect of the course right now. The greens were firm and were kind of the dry/crusty bermuda one might expect this time of year. However, they were rolling well at medium speeds. Similar look to TPC's greens on Saturday, but actually rolling much better. The layout is pretty straightforward and no frills. The back nine has a handful of nice holes, but nothing that memorable (especially when playing as quickly as I did). I did hear some members grumbling that this is their least favorite course of the bunch. Not sure why because it's a solid layout that's pretty wide open and forgiving. I'd probably rank it 2nd behind Pebblebrook of what I've played at Sun City West so far. Friendly place and a great value, so it'll provide what you are looking for if you set your expectations right.

I've reviewed this course prior and conditions are consistent with what I said last year. For $15 you can't do much better than this golf course. Golfers looking for a consistently conditioned golf course without all the bells and whistles of a course with a higher price tag should put Grandview in their rotation. I enjoy this type of course and is why I will drive to play even though I have a number of courses within 15 minutes of my house.

Had a great time on Wednesday with GK’ers Isoceles, SeveB and demarv04 playing now my forth course at Sun City West Golf. I like them all but this one is now my new favorite. It’s the same track they play the LPGA Legends Tour on and by far the largest facility. The driving range is twice as big as the other courses as is the clubhouse. I particularly liked how open the course was off the tee and longer allowing me to use my driver at will. It’s a fun course with some risk reward holes well protected at times with water hazards, bunkers and mounding. There are some challenging holes with the par 5, 575 yards, #13 coming most to mind. It’s a golf course you can score very well on too, ask SeveB who had 4 birdies and an Eagle. One of things I love most about this course and all the Sun City West Golf Courses is how affordable they are. We played at the after 2:30pm $15 special for May that included cart. In addition drinks were only a $1.50 – you could get a beer and hot dog for just $5. I think this is course could be overlooked by some out of town players and possibly residents of Phoenix due to it not being a “Desert” landscaped course but it is an overall solid track to fill a golf fix for great price.

As for conditions, very good to great, and had the greens been fully recovered from aeration, which possibly are now at the time of this post, the course would have been in excellent shape. The only negative I experienced was many of the fairway bunkers had very firm sand that could use replaced or turned. As far as condition of the fairways, rough and tee boxes, they were in great shape, good coverage and lush. Being the course has already transitioned from rye grass to bermunda, I can see its conditions getting better and better as the Summer heats up.

Lastly, as will all my rounds at Sun City West Golf Courses, we finished in under 4 hours for 18 holes. Recommended!

I played Grandview late on a Sunday after work around 2:45. Not too many people were out on the course and I didn't run in to anybody until the 17th hole.
The course was in awesome shape. Tee boxes were all level and lush with minimal divot marks. The fairways had very few divots and no dead or brown spots. The weather in the Phoenix area has been awesome and I haven't seen the summer conditions on golf courses yet. The greens were a pleasure to putt on. They accepted shots all day long, were very consistent speed wise, and had not bad spots on them. I haven't played a lot of golf in the last few months but I think this course was the best conditioned I have seen.
The course has some challenging holes. Many of the greens are very well protected with mounding and collection areas. Some of the par 4s from the back tees present a challenge as do the shorter par 4s.
The customer service was awesome. Two ladies at the counter acted ecstatic for me to be playing there. They thanked me multiple times for coming out and invited me to play until sundown if I wanted to. Range balls are still $1 for about 15 balls. F&B prices seem to be from 1985. You aren't going to have someone at the front to take your clubs or clean them at the end of the round but the course is fun for someone looking to go play golf. I paid $28 to play and it was an absolute deal. I'm sure this course is busy in the morning but for a late afternoon round it's a good choice.

Played 07 April at 1:07 PM. Was greeted warmly at the golf shop when checking in. We were given cart keys and directed to the ball machine for practice balls for a very busy grass driving range. I suspect a lot of members were out practising as the weather was in the mid 80s. This was a big double ended driving range with target poles. there is a practice green which I should have used given I had 33 putts in my 80 strokes. I didn't see a chipping area or practice bunker on the clubhouse side of the range but I know it's out there somewhere.

We played as a 3 some in carts following two walkers and one cart. Pace of play was 4:15 which was very acceptable on a busy day. this course I suspect is busy all the time. There were restroom/waterpoints midway on each nine and # 9 comes back to the club house.

Greens were outstanding, tough with lots of contour which protects par. The greens were pool table quality, firm with full grass and very few ball marks.

Fairways were generous which helped our high handicapper . The fairways were really lush and we did on occasion pick up mud on the golf ball. i suspect the irrigation may have something to do with an LPGA event planned for early May. Rough was cut very short.
Bunker sand was the heavy grain type with little bottom which suggests tht the course sees a lot of high wind. After two bunker shots I switched to my 58 degree wedge for any further bunker shots (adapt or buy dinner).

A note to the unwary. Hole # 17 has a turtle back green with a deep grass bunker in front that I did not see from the approach area. Yipe! I thought I had holed my wedge.

I saw the ranger once on the front nine. There was no beverage cart. We loaded our own carts and unloaded then the same way. My kind of course. There were five in our party (3 some and 2 some) and we all agreed that this was an very fair well maintained course and we would return in a heartbeat.

This is my kind of course. Good golf with no frills.

I played this course on Saturday at 145pm. The course was packed with people but I got off as a single. I eventually caught up to a group on the back nine but I was expecting it and was really surprised to be sent off as a single on a Saturday afternoon in Sun City.
The course was surprisingly enjoyable and fun. The wind was blowing this day which made some holes difficult playing into the wind. For example, on one 380 par 4, I hit a five iron and was left with only 130 yards in the green. The wind made it difficult but was fun being able to gain some yardage when it was helping.
The course itself was in great condition. The rough is dormant so if your tee shot goes there it continues to roll further out. It wasn't a big deal since the course is fairly open. Houses line the course but don't really infringe on the course. The fariways were lush and nice to hit off. The traps I was in were consistent with the sand. The greens were firm and didn't really hold a shot.
I enjoyed the variety of holes and the overall length of the course. The par fives were a good challenge and fun to play. I also enjoyed the par 4s were of varying length. Some were shorter 350y types while some were in the 400y range. It makes you have to use different clubs.
I will definitely keep this course in mind as a winter play due to the rates being reasonable for the Phoenix area in spring.
As mentioned in earlier reviews, the outside services are limited. Two restrooms and two water fountains on the whole course. I didn't see a beverage cart either so stock up and be ready.

Played 2/9 with Chilipalmer99 and some of my friends. Thanks to Johnny GK for setting up the round. It was a lot of fun. Grandview is a very good golf course. It is one of a group of seven in the retirement community of Sun City West. I liked the layout. It starts as a typical desert course on the first 5 holes. #6 is a short Par 4 with a lake in the middle. It's a hole where you need to be accurate and smart. Playing the back nine, the course seemed to toughen up with more water hazards and greens that were more sloped. Watch out for your tee shot on #13. A creek runs across the middle of the fairway and connects the 2 lakes on the hole. Fairways can be tight, but there is plenty of rough. Houses line the course but they don't crowd the course.

Conditions were good- very good. I thought the tee boxes, fairways and sand traps were very good. Tee boxes were level and had a good surface to play from. Fairways were in nice shape and gave you a good lie. Sand traps were numerous. They had a heavier granular sand which produced a good lie most of the time. The rough and greens I would say were good. The rough is dormant bermuda that is cut short. Ball sits up on it. The greens were firm. They could hold high shot with spin if you played for it to release. You couldn't really make a ball mark on them. If you were above the hole with a chip, you had a hard time controlling the speed. They did roll smooth and true when putting.

It's a different vibe playing Grandview. With seniors and retirees dominating the landscape, you have to expect a few trade-offs. After the round my friends and I went into the pro shop to ask them a few questions. We asked why they had no beverage cart? They said they had tried it in the past but it didn't work. No one bought anything. They said " the locals like to bring their own stuff." They all live nearby and drive their own golf carts to the course. There wasn't any outside service either. Again, something they don't need or use. Don't let these two things deter you from playing here. Here are four tips why you should play Grandview.

Buy the drinks you need before you tee off and at the turn from the Crooked Putter Restaurant. Drinks were cheap. $2 beers. When is the last you had a $2 beer at a golf course?

The pro shop told us this course is least busy on the weekends. The retirees play mostly on the week days.

If you like a fast pace of play, this course is for you. It was somewhat busy. We had foursomes in front and behind us and we played in exactly 4 hours. It's great that they have a player asst.

It's a great value to play here. It's $41 walking, $50 w/cart. A bargain around here during our peak golf season.

They have a good practice facility. Range, practice putting and chipping area.(It's on the back end of the range.) I would recommend this course to anyone and want to play again now that I know some local knowledge. Submitted photos.

P. S. The LPGA Legends are playing here in the Walgreens Charity Classic Feb. 23-24. If you play between now and then you might get lucky like us and see some players. We saw LPGA legend and Hall of Famer Pat Bradley practicing on the range. She was real nice, approachable and would sign autographs.
