Solid locals course in decent winter shape. It was pretty foggy, so I didn't get to see much of the layout. I was mostly impressed with a bunch of the green complexes on a very flat course.
Fairways were spotty, but I don't remember any bad lies and I got up and down from the one trap I was in.
$39 with cart twilight on a Sunday seemed fair not sure how much cheaper it is to walk but it is extremely walkable.

I joined JusGas88 at Tulare with a late morning tee time. Overall the course was in Ok condition maybe a tad under average muni shape. The staff is excellent that’s for sure. They are very friendly and helpful in all aspects of customer service. There has been a lot of work put into the clubhouse and surrounding area (horse shoe pit, outdoor patio) and they are working on the course itself. There will be a new water hazard going in along the inner elbow of the dog leg of the par 5 second hole. That will be very cool.

The green on the par 3 seventh hole has been reshaped since last time and is now a nice two tier green instead of the previous ridiculous super steep sloping green they had there before.

Condition wise, the fairways were really the weak link. Fairways were thin, patchy and had numerous dirt areas throughout. Tee boxes were ok. Most were level with decent coverage and minimal divots. I avoided all bunkers but others were in handful and the traps and minimal sand. Mainly hardbacked dirt with a thin layer of sand.

Greens weren’t too bad. Most rolled fairly smooth, though a few were a little bumpy. Greens rolled at a medium-slow pace. I played at Ridge Creek yesterday which had the greens rolling at their usual medium-fast pace so the greens today at Tulare felt very slow.

POP was at about 4.5 hours which for a Saturday morning I imagine is about right. Carts don’t have GPS but are otherwise in excellent condition with some of the plushest seats you’ll find anywhere. Conditions are bare minimum, but the family running the place are so nice and the price is right so I’m going to try and make it a point to get out here more often and support them.

Played Tulare GC early morning being the first group out. This is only my third or fourth time playing here. I had heard from others that some work was being done on the course so I wanted to see what the chatter was about. For 6:15AM the place was busy. With triple digit heat in the valley it’s not a surprise that everyone wanted to tee off early. I went out in the first group.

Tee boxes were in very nice shape. Level and neatly manicured with the grass being cut short. No divots to speak of and easy to get a tee in the ground. Fairways were 50/50. Most fairways had a ton of thin areas as well as flat out hardpan dirt. Grass was cut short but presented a decent enough hitting surface should you find a good area.

Most greens were in nice shape. They rolled surprisingly super smooth at a medium pace. No divots encountered and only one green had some major disease on half of it. The green complexes are interesting. Some are flat and fairly docile while others are amusement park wild rides with super steep slopes.

No real rough to speak of and the traps were ok. Most had a light amount of loose dirt on top of a hardpacked base. Not the best of the bunker world but predictable.

Layout it tight on the front nine and then it opens up a bit on the back. Maybe it was because I had the case of the lefts today but it seemed like the tee boxes were all jammed up on the extreme left side against the tree lined fairways. Track is completely flat, parkland style layout so it’s super easy to walk.

Customer service was great. It’s a family run business and it shows that they take pride in the course and their customers.

Played Tulare on Monday 5/4 with an early (7am) tee time. I've only played here a couple of times but I'm guessing this is about as good as ever for this course. Conditions were a solid 7 all around. Being that they just opened the tee boxes had little divot damage and the late April rains did the fairways wonders. Greens were smooth and divot free sans one which had a lot of pitch marks probably from the weekend.

Greens rolled at a medium speed. All the COIVD-19 measures were in place. Check in was done outside the pro-shop, no rakes, and flags remained in. We walked as this is an easy course to walk being completely flat. The layout is ok. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible. There are a few holes with tight fairways that put a demand on accuracy over length

All in all it's not a bad place to golf with better than average conditions right now.

Had some business in the area and the weather was way too nice not to play today. I’ve never played Tulare and thought I’d give it a shot over playing Valley Oaks down the road. The website says a new family took over the course a couple of years ago and has been putting a lot of time and effort into revitalizing it.

I walked into the pro shop without a tee time. Staff was super friendly and got me out right away with no issues at all. Either the family is in construction or has a lot of friends in the business because the pro shop was in top shape and had obviously been remodeled recently. Very impressive to say the least.

On to the course. Night temperatures have started to drop in the valley. The fairways were all completely brown. I’m not sure if this is a result of the grass going dormant for the winter or lack of water and everything is just dried up. Fairways were a bit hit and miss and I couldn’t help but wonder if the color threw me off or the lack of thorough coverage/lushness.

The “rough” was brown and patchy. Only about a ¼” taller than the fairway. Tee boxes were nice. No issues at all. Green, level and lush without many divots.

The greens: The front nine had several elevated greens with severe slope and undulations. Some challenging pin locations for sure, but on par with other “difficult” multi-tier greens (aka: Blackhorse & Spanish Bay). Greens rolled true and had very few pitch marks. They were soft but did not hold approach shots. I’ve never seen anything like it. Several times my ball left huge craters in the green but rolled out instead of checking up (yes, I was playing a top tour level ball). speed was at a medium-fast pace. I was actually impressed at the speed of the greens. I was thinking they were going to be slower.

Sand traps were poor. Most were very very thin layered dirt. A couple had a small amount of dirt/sand allowing the player to get somewhat underneath the ball. I was in 7 bunkers total, so I had a good sampling of the traps.

As for the layout, it was ok’ish. Completely flat which was expected being a valley course. Narrow fairways put a premium on accuracy, yet there are several 400(+) yard par 4’s so length is needed as well. Most of the holes are designed for right handers with a fade. Tee boxes are on the far left side with tree’s crowding the fairway. I found myself numerous times dealing with the tree branches on the left with either my drive or approach shot.

I was able to get through a few groups early and only had to wait for about 3 holes before getting out in front of everyone and having the last 8 holes wide open. Total POP was right at 3 hours.

I’m sure I’ll give this course another shot in the future when I’m in the south valley and looking for an alternative to Valley Oaks and Lemoore. It just won’t be until the spring when conditions improve.

The new crew has been working hard.

The greens have made a miraculous turnaround in the short time the new owners have had the course. Three months ago they were terrible. Now they are mostly smooth quick and semi firm. There are a few areas where they have not recovered, but by spring they should be on point. The bunkers have been worked (yay!) and are very playable. Speaking of work, the evidence is everywhere and we saw more grounds crew out and active than any of us could recall. Trees and bushes all over the course have been trimmed and or removed. (won't miss the oleanders)
The course is dormant except the green complexes. Everything has been mown to playable height and I look forward to spring to see just how good this place may become when it is green.

Greens 1 and 4 are complete disasters and have some sort of fungus or IDK. Other greens were between very good to some bad spots to bad areas.

Fairways were long and slow but had very good coverage.

Tees were lush but many had not been mown and were too long.

Rough was thick with areas that had not been mown.

Sand was thin but consistent in the bunkers I was in and/or noticed.

Fun layout, fast pace, friendly staff, good price. I hope they get a handle on their greens.

The course has come back to mostly normal conditions.

There are still browned out edges, but that is due to water conservation. The rest of the course is green and playable.

The greens have come back almost completely from whatever had eaten/destroyed them. There are still several greens where you can see the damage, but I would estimate that 2/3rds of them are completely healed and the few that weren't are spotty instead of completely damaged.

Played a charity tournament, thank goodness it was not a normal round. This is a course we typically go to several times a year. The layout is decent, the price is usually good for the return and the crowds are normally small.

I will keep this short as I don't want to bash(excessively) a course I like. The fairways were un-mown and were more like 1-3" rough. Four of the, I believe six, water hazards were empty and dozed. (the huge amount of balls visible was amazing and surprising that they hadn't been collected.) Many of the greens were horrendous. Huge areas of fungi? and dead spots and damage and invasive grass. They are obviously struggling mightily with the conditioning, shame because it is fun to play.

I do not recommend this course at this time.
