Played on Saturday, 6/8, as part of Matt's birthday bash. I'll start by saying this now my favorite course. Even if you don't do the whole GR experience and stay in the cabins, the course is phenomenal. Throw in the solitude of the cabin experience, along with fishing the ponds and enjoying the rec center area, and it's incredible.

Course was in great shape. Fairways were lush, green, and carpet like. Rough was up enough to cause problems. Greens were superb. While supposedly running at 11 (not early in the morning), they were very receptive, smooth, and a medium pace. A little bit of course knowledge is needed as there is a few doglegs where you can really cut if you know (or run out of fairway if you didn't know). If you go deep into the shadows in the morning, you do come across some ice conditions. Driving range is huge, but into the rising sun so you may need a spotter. Course has a great variety of holes, and no hole is repeated.

Staff was super friendly, from the pro shop, to the bar, to the cart guys. Carts are some higher end gas models, but no GPS. Course has plenty of yardage markers, including a sprinkler in the trees on the right, 71 yards from the 9th green (yeah I found it). No drink cart but you pass the bar/grill between 9 and 10. Plenty of deer running through the property and they get pretty close. Just an awesome course and worth the trip.

Rough can be very tough if you miss the fairways by too much. Even a little can make your next shot tough. Greens were in great shape. Posted at 11 but ran more like 9. Medium pace, but rolled true and receptive for well struck shots Service was great great. Highly recommend.

Took our annual trip to grizzly ranch this weekend and buy is this course amazing. This year we booked one of the Wolf tree cabins and they are spectacular and also gives you a nice stay and play rate for the golf course. The staff here make you feel welcome as soon as you get to the guard shack. Sam in the pro shop was very informative and the 3 lady’s in the bar were awesome and super friendly. The course is fantastic shape right now even after the long winter. From tee to green the course is lush. Fairways are generous and provide great roll on well hit shots. Rougher was thick and penal and would punish you for errant shots. If you miss the rough you were severely punished with either fescue or tall pine trees and wild flowers. The greens were firm and running at an 11 on the scale. They did however allow for well struck shots to stick. Sand seemed to be fine but I was not in any traps. Overall this is my favorite course and I highly recommend the trip to stay in the cabins and play the golf courses.

Plumas County is one of my favorite areas to play. Never played Grizzly Ranch but will definitely be back. The attractive cabin lodging was booked, but planning ahead a little earlier would have remedied that. The area is full of excellent courses and this is the best I have played so far (Nakoma will be in the rotation next trip, to go with Whitehawk Ranch and the venerable and fun Graeagle).

Grizzly is a big, brawny well thought out course with acres and acres of property in the mountains. We played as a 4-some on a Friday mid-morning and barely saw other golfers. That is mostly because the holes are so far apart (well spaced) due to the huge property. Hell, the long cart rides through beautiful forest from hole to hole is as interesting as any place I've played. The front 9 is longer and more difficult than the back. You will appreciate that after the two 600+ yard par 5's in the first 12 holes.

The basics: Great grass driving range and practice area with comp stripers. Beautiful scenery, tees are flat, lush and huge, which certainly helps with strategy. Great fairways and some large bunkers; greens smooth, fast but not ridiculous and held well-struck irons. If driver is your favorite club you will have a blast at this course. Best driving course I have played in memory and some of the most fun and challenging par 5s anywhere. Plays long from the green tees (about 6700+ yards) but is well worth the risk of taking driver often. Great drives are well rewarded because of the great fairway conditions here.

Super helpful staff at all levels, nice pro shop, snack bar, patio, etc. Got a NCGA discount (and only because they asked me!) Just a perfect golf getaway. Wish we scheduled this for two or three rounds. If I had to be critical about anything (and don't we all) it would be the old school loud, clunky but comfortable gas carts. Carts came with a cooler full of ice and a cold towel. You'd have to be nuts to walk this beast, so you are going to be dependent on the vehicle to get around. I walked a couple of holes for the heck of it and you will feel the altitude if you are a sea level habitant. I'm told their season ends late October, but could be extended with good weather. It is a green light destination for NorCal. Just play it.

Course was in over all great condition. Fairways were really nice. Mostly lush & consistent with decent roll. Greens were in great shape. Rolled very nice at a little above medium pace and held shots well. Some greens are elevated and sloped away. Those were tough to hold any where near landing spot. Traps in good shape with many having wet firms areas at bottom. First cut of rough in easy shape to hit out of. Anything past that and you were toast in the deep bottomless grass. Some really beautiful golf holes here. Really a fun beautiful course in great shape.
Not a long course from "Middle" tees. Around 6,400. All but 1 par 3's were playing at 180 or more up hill, with tucked pins of course. Some are VERY tough to even hold the green and not go into native grass behind. Then there are 2 short driveable par 4's at 270ish? 17th is a tough design of a hole. 240 yrds to end of fairway & creek with no real way to fly it. Leaving 180- 200 yrd approach. Didn't care for that one. But, 18th is a awesome finishing hole. There are some fun tracts in the Portola area. If you're near this area, this is good one to add to your list?

This is a beautiful golf course. Very nice playable layout with only a couple of blind shots. It will accommodate players of any level, just pick the correct tees. The course is not walkable due to the distance between greens and tees. There a a few homes that one might see along the way.
The course was in perfect condition, greens rolled a bout 9.5, and not to difficult to read. The fairways were lush and great to play on. The bunkers had that rough almost gravelly sand, but easy to get out of. The first cut was short but beyond that your dealing with nature. Also be aware that this is the home of the western diamondback.
It’s well worth the green fee, I will definitely play here again.

Where to start... WOW! What a course! My brother and I made the 8 hour trek from Southern CA to take advantage of their early season $99 Unlimited Golf. Unfortunately we booked a little late and had a 1040 TEE time but fortunately we miss timed our drive in from mammoth and arrived at 9am. The head pro Caleb was super friendly and offered to let us go out on the back 9 first as there was a full tee sheet and no way to get out early so off to the range to take a few swings and get used to the elevation. The driving range here at Grizzly Ranch is one of the most scenic I have ever played and I would put in in the top 2 along with Cascata. Tall pine trees surrounding the range and ample space to warm up. They have a large putting green to practice on as well as a chipping area with sand. As for the course I would say its bombers paradise and definitely challenges you to think twice once you get to the first green. The rough is very penal and pin placements can be outright diabolical. The Back nine plays a little more open than the front but there are well placed streams, bunkers, and thick rough to separate fairways causing you to want to lay up. One of the tips I received prior to playing was keep the driver in the bag on 17. It is a longish par 4 that has a creek cutting across the fairway and it take 290 in the air to clear. As most of you know me I'm not scared to lose a ball and neither is my brother I cleared the creek by 2 inches and my brother crushed one 340 yards. The next time around not so much luck haha. As for the Conditions. Everything is in as good of shape as you would expect just 2 weeks out from the last snow of the season. The Tee boxes were verti-cut but still in great condition to tee up and hit from. Fairways - almost carpet like a few spots here and there of dormant grass maybe a week or two out from being perfect carpet fairways. Every ball that we hit from the fairway sat up nice and fluffy which greatly helps the iron game. Rough was very penal and would just grab your clubs I had a triple chip from 15 yards due to the 4 inch rough around the greens I was not happy at myself. Fescue is another type of rough in abundance near the creeks and over the greens. The fescue was maybe 6 inches in length but was laying down so as long as you didn't blast into it you were able to find and hit from it. There are not a lot of sand traps on the course and that is probably a good thing because that would make the course too difficult. One of our playing partners did say it was in great shape even though is was slightly damp in the morning. There was definitely ample sand and no rocks to be seen. The greens were a different monster. We were warned that they were very slow due to the late winter that came through in April and the staff was not wrong. The greens would look like they break a ton but as we were warned that the break would be half of what you would expect. Is was very difficult judging speed all day but still amazing rolls. Some greens have some mountain weeds that are trying to take over but they all rolled true as can be. Overall I highly suggest playing here regardless how far the drive is. From the staff to the conditions this is High quality mountain golf.

Played in a tournament up at Grizzly Ranch on the 27th and 28th. HOLY COW is all I can say. The wet winter and spring were more than kind to Grizzly and the conditions were out of this world. I've never played on grass that deep green in color and pure. I'm just a huge fan of rye and this was like 7,000 yards of perfect carpet.

The setting might be my favorite of any course I've ever played. I can't really remember being more secluded. There are no homes (save for a handful of killer looking cabins you can rent) or roads around and its just you, golf and nature.

The layout is really interesting without being too difficult or punishing. Just a bunch of fun looks all around this place.

I was trying to think of a drawback to Grizzly Ranch and I simply can't. There isn't a weekend I look more forward to than when I get to play here. If you can find your way up, go play it right now. It's fantastic.

I was beyond lucky to play Grizzly Ranch three days in a row, this past Saturday thru Monday. It was a tournament for my company and I literally can't imagine playing a golf course in better shape than how they had Grizzly set up (it was better than Rams Hill at the last GK Event which basically set the bar as high as it could go). The season is drawing to an end up at Grizzly, so you have to play before September 26th when they punch the greens if you want the killer conditions.

I'm trying hard to figure out a way to give Grizzly something other than a 10/10 and the only thing I can come up with is the beer selection and menu in the bar area aren't that good. That's it. Period. So maybe a 9.99 out of 10?

Grizzly Ranch is about 45-50 minutes outside of Reno in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing around. I think the property has 3 cabins you can rent, then there's 4 houses and that's it. there are no holes that are side by side and the feeling of serenity you get here is beyond compare. It was so peaceful that we actually had to wait while two bucks banging antlers together stopped making so much noise. Nothing to get mad at....

As for the golf course itself, the layout is fantastic. The selection of holes and variation kind of reminds me of La Purisima, without some of the more harsh qualities you get at LaP. You have a couple driveable par 4's, both long and short Par 3's, par 5's you can reach and those you have to hold on for dear life to finish. Just a cool track with no two holes alike.

The conditions of the course are 10+'s all around. I imagine this is what a tour course plays like. There were shades of green I've never seen and the way that contrasts the whispy fescue lining the fairwarys, the massive pine trees and creeks and lakes is different than anything I've seen.

This course is kind of a pain to get to. The drive is pretty easy but I'm guessing it's a good 45 minutes from anywhere you would normally stay. Worth the effort? YES!

The rack rate at Grizzly is about $135 on weekends and there is no doubt in my mind it's well worth it. I've heard that a couple other courses in the general area are really incredible as well, so it definitely would be a destination area.

Unless you can call in sick and go play in the next week to ten days (big maintenance and then course closure happens), make plans to visit Grizzly Ranch next year (right around September 10th would see ideal conditions), you won't be disappointed. Bucket list course all around....
