I found infrequent and dated reviews of the Tahoe area courses that made it frustrating for me to do the usual GK research in advance of my recent trip, so I'm going to be thorough here. We had a foursome on Tuesday 8/25 with a 10:50 tee time. Covid procedures at the clubhouse and check-in, but the chipping green, range with mats, and putting green sans flags were all open. Nice to have a proper warm up. Some issues with their credit card connection but they worked around it and comp'd my warmup bucket. In general, the service was fine and the employees we interacted with were smiling and in good spirits. Onto the course conditions which were pretty nice overall. The best compliment I can give about tee boxes is that I mostly didn't think about them all day. There always seemed to be good coverage and the few unlevel were only very minimally so. The fairways were green, well grown in and cut with good rollout. No recall of any dry or thin stretches and the rough was similarly green and well grown in. Sometimes the rough allowed full recovery and sometimes it forced more of a compromise shot to get back to the fairway. The temps up there are not the brutalizing temps we've had around here, so the conditions don't show the accompanying signs of stress. While I managed to stay out of them, the bunkers were on the hard side to the point that the starter suggested taking a free drop out of them if so inclined. The areas around the green were consistently lush, and a bit thicker for pitching than I'm used to seeing, but not punitive and I seemed to have good results to confirm that. The greens were nice, running at a medium quick pace with a reasonably true surface. Most of the greens had contour to them that added challenge and visual interest. The course is miles from the lake and has no lake views, but pine tree lined fairways and surrounding mountains make for a very scenic setting. I, atypically, had my wife with me and so was riding as opposed to my usual walk and carry mode. The $90 price included the carts and I didn't ask about whether walking was an option or if there was a walking price. I don't recall seeing walkers, so without knowing if it is even an option, the course is pretty flat and would be ideal for walking. So much for the facts and conditions, which I can't fault. Now for my subjective spin. I can usually come back from a round of golf, visualize each hole and replay just about every shot in my head while I'm laying in bed. For this course, very not so much. The layout has a healthy dose of long straight, usually generous, back and forth fairways. Some soft doglegs thrown in on longer holes, a couple of sharper doglegged, short par fours and a creek that meanders through through the property and occasionally comes into play. I thought the par threes were pretty nice. But the conditions and surroundings are more interesting than the course itself, which is enjoyable enough, but also rather forgettable — in my case literally — in the lack of distinguishing characteristics between many holes. Compared to to-rich-for-my-blood Edgemont up the road at $250 per person, $90 at Lake Tahoe seemed a bargain. In the mid afternoon, the price here drops to about $60 and $50 for twilight. I think the layout value was closer to the $60 than almost a hundred. One of my buddies insisted on the earlier tee time, while I would have felt like I'd gotten a nice experience and a great deal for $60. That said you are in a resort area and there is the expected bump. So, a muni-level layout with very nice conditioning in an amazing setting. Personally, I'd do it again at the lower price. But it is a total experience, people are on holiday, and that scenery definitely counts. Also, because people sometimes don't get to play much golf until they are on a getaway, this layout will be more accommodating to them and more fun. I'm splitting a lot of first-world hairs here. It's a nice course. Because of the mixed abilities in our group, it was actually the perfect layout for us. If you can afford the price go play it and you will enjoy it. Play it for $60 and you'll enjoy it more. Based on my research (but not experience) I suspect there are some more interesting layouts in the greater area in a similar price window or even a little less (I'm looking at you, Toiyabe Golf Club!)

Made our annual trip up to Lake Tahoe and played my annual round of golf at Lake Tahoe Golf Course with my son.

It was a rough winter for the course and it showed a little. But the staff has been doing their best to make it great and it didn't detract from the great time I had with my son.

The layout of the course is the best. I've always played from the Blacks and hit a ton of irons off the tee so this year decided to play from the back tees and it made the round so much more enjoyable. There were some narrow shots off the tee box to get to the fairway which made it so much fun.

For the $75 price to play, you got breakfast, warmup balls, cart. It truly is a great deal. The staff are always very nice and we look forward to playing here every year!

Our vacation trip to Lake Tahoe could not be complete without a round of golf at Lake Tahoe golf course. Last time, I went by myself and met with some great locals. This time, my son and family joined me. Six of us went out and had an absolute blast!

The course was in really good shape, I love the layout. The course overall is not too difficult but I just enjoy playing there so much.

The fairways were in really good shape, the ball sat up nicely. The fairway rough was nearly non-existent but the rough around the greens were thick and grabby.

My favorite part of the course is the greens, they rolled so smooth.

So I've played this course 3 times in the past two years and have absolutely had the best time each time I've played it. Was flirting with playing th eEdgewood Tahoe course but why when I know I'm going to have a great time for a 1/4 of the price at Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Played Lake Tahoe Golf Course a couple of times while on vacation (8/29 & 8/31)

Got out on 8/29 after a 40 minute frost delay (33* when I got there), paired me with three locals. Finished in just under 4 hours. They were great helping me with the layout of the course. The conditions were great considering what is becoming the norm down here in So Cal. The course was green and lush, the greens held shots and rolled true. Not much rough to speak of. Playing early in the morning, the sand was damp which made it tough to play out of. Absolutely loved the layout of the course. Many irons off the tee.

The locals invited me back out on 8/31 to play with them again. Two days later, it was 50 degrees and we got out on time. Tee'd off at 7:10 and were done by 10:30. Great pace of play. If you are in South Lake Tahoe, this course is a treat and reasonably priced ($59 normally, was able to play the second time for $29 thanks to the locals)

Second round here this year. The course conditions are quite good. Greens are the best feature -- smooth, quite firm, consistent speed from hole to hole. Fairways are also fine, rough is getting thick and bunkers can be exploded from. Teeing areas are not good -- some undulations and not much grass.

Course plays pretty long from the regular (black) tees at 6300+. Some narrow tee shots out of tree-lined chutes. Plenty of tule areas if you are spraying the ball.

Course amenities are mostly non-existent. No ice chests, no ball washers, no GPS on carts. No bathrooms on course (a couple port-a-potties), but plenty of wooded areas for the males. Range balls are extra; mats only which are bouncy and uneven.

Beverage cart was around often. Decent restaurant area with acceptable food and beverage prices.

Normal green fees are around $85. Probably not worth it unless you are stuck in South Lake Tahoe and cannot get down to Reno, Carson City or Dayton. We paid $45 which included the range balls and a nice after round buffet and a beer. That was worth it.

Played 8/11/2014 in a tournament. 80°, no wind, somewhat humid. Course is OK. Lots of green grass, but damp from overnight rain. Course played quite long because of wetness and humidity. If you are old enough to play the senior tees, course is still 5700+ which is quite long for those golfers. Greens were smooth but otherwise disappointing. Very slow. Maybe 8. Fairways and rough were also smooth, but little roll in fairway, and less roll in the rough. Best feature was the condition of the bunkers. Very much a muni feel to the facilities. Range has mats but the mats are new and quite spongy. Like trying to hit from a trampoline. Practice putting green was good, but we were advised by the pro shop that the course greens were slower and bumpier than the practice green. And the pro shop was right. Electric carts, no GPS, no ball washers and no ice chest. No on course bathrooms unless you count an occasional port-o-potty. No drinking water on course. A definite BYO everything course. We paid $45 which included a purported $10 lunch (hot dog, soda and a beer). Noticed lots of walkers -- course looks easy to walk as it is very flat. Nice mountain views. No lake view. Lots of tules. Your choice is about $40-50 at Lake Tahoe GC with minimal amenities or $200 at Edgewood with the full extras. Many thanks to MIKELGABE for his full course photos.

Tournament rate was $39 -- regular rate is probably between $50 and $60. Comparing Edgewood Tahoe at $200 -- this course is a way better deal. Just no views of the lake.

Greens, fairways and rough were great. Bunkers were good, too. Not too hard a course, generous fairways and rough not thick, pretty easy to hit out of. Greens are quite small. Course is quite flat so no blind shots. South fork (I think) of the Truckee River runs throughout the course. Requires some course management to decide whether to lay up or try to hit over. Some marshy areas to catch the errant shot. Forget looking for your ball in the marsh -- but you might find 4 or 5 others while you're looking.

I am told the course is privately owned, but feels like a muni. Pro shop and restaurant are pedestrian. Car service on the course. Driving range has mats, but good enough for loosening up. Range balls were included, but that may have been because it was a tournament.

Best golf value at Lake Tahoe. I'd play there any time -- worth the drive from Reno or Carson City.

The greens rolled nicely and held well struck shots. The fairways were in good shape but a bit wet in some areas (played early morning). The bunkers, rough, and tee boxes were all good.

The staff was pleasant and very helpful in giving me an estimation of carry at altitude (about 10%). For me a 150 yard club went 165. The price was more than I expected for the local muni but for the Tahoe area during prime time summer it was reasonable. This is a good course for all skill levels. I would play it again when visiting Tahoe.

I've played this course before on trips to Tahoe, and was looking forward to the return visit. I was not disappointed! My wife and I played as a 2-some on 5/28/09. Beautiful day! We started with a leisurely drive from our Rustic Cottages lodging on the North Shore with a trip past Emerald Bay. The views around the course are much better now that a good portion of the fire damage of a couple years ago is gone. The course surprisingly was not overly crowded, so we got off a little bit ahead of schedule. The front 9 on this course is pretty pedestrian . . a lot of long straight holes, but once you make the turn it really gets interesting. Shots through the trees on par 3's . . over the water on par 4 doglegs . . risk and reward opportunities on short par 4's and 5's abound. The greens were in very good condition, and the fairways were nice and green. The bunkers were in good shape, which was somewhat surprising considering it had rained the day before and we were playing relatively early in the morning. This might be the best "value" in the Tahoe area. Greens fees are inexpensive for the area, and the course is just a lot of fun. The customer service is always very good and I look forward to playing the course again on my next trip to the area.
