I played here this morning. Seemed like the best deal I could find on a busy morning with a lot of golfers out on a holiday day off from work. I booked a 7:06 time directly through their site for $49 with cart (which is great with no credit card required and then you get text/email reminders the day before). I was in the second group off and we never had to wait too much on the group ahead. Never saw the group behind past the 1st hole, so it was a good morning pace of about 3.5 hours.

The course is in pretty good overall shape, a little rough around the edges with water conservation in effect, but it kinds of works with the design. Tee boxes good. Fairways mostly quite good. First cut of rough much more spotty. Greens firm, quick and smooth. Bunkers seemed like a mixed bag. Some looked good and others appeard terrible.

If you like semi-blind uphill approach shots to greens with plenty of undulation, then you will love Shadow Lakes. Most every hole plays uphill, with just a few downhill par-3s and one quirky short par-4 that's a lay-up off the tee to balance out the elevation changes. It is definitely a course you'd need to play multiple times so you can know were to aim on certain greens. The greens are tricky on putts, so it is an adventure all day. That all said, the fairways are generally quite forgiving and there's lots of bail-out room around most greens as long as you avoid the deep bunkers. Birdies don't always come easy, but big numbers can be avoided with smart play. Though the barrage of uphill approaches did grow tiresome, I still enjoyed the course and it's rugged, hilly linksy layout. Plays through a residential area, but the houses never really feel "in play" at all.

Played on 2/17/14. Found a hot deal on golfnow for $22. The entire course was in very good condition. The greens were firm but receptive enough for wedges to spin. Not fast but not too slow either. Putts roll smoothly. The tee boxes were level and divot free. Grass driving range is always nice to find. Was good grass too, not rock hard dirt or sand underneath. The course difficulty is moderate, the par 3's can be tricky to pull the right club when the wind is up. The pace of play was very good, finished a 4some in under 4 1/4. Hilly course is walkable. Tricky to get good yardages on some approaches, many uphill shots. Good mix of short/long par 4's. Most of the par 5's give a reasonable chance to reach in 2 with a good tee shot. Sand traps aren't good, crusty thin sand with loads of pebbles and rocks, on the bright side, the fairway bunkers are a joy to play from because of this. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the course, I haven't played it for years and now I don't remember why I've avoided it. It was a fun round.

Played last Sunday for $36 golfguide.org and was pleasantly surprised at how good of a shape the whole course was in. No complaints from box to greens as the maintenance crew has definitely picked it up from the last time I played there. Pro shop attendant was cordial but not too interested in customer relations as he was just an order taker. Didn't use the restaurant, saw the cart girl once but did not need anything. Pace was not bad for a Sunday. Hit off turf at range but they ran out of balls after we got ours so they had to go out and collect from the range. Starter was hilarious so he was good fun. Front nine is somewhat short and benign but the back nine starts to climb gnarly hills with plenty of hazards ending with an elevated tee shot down to an island-like green. You gotta hit the flat part before the water or you got a severe downhill shot across the water to the green. It didn't help that the wind storm started on the back nine that day. Too bad the wind came up as it was a perfect day in the morning. The greens were almost mark free that day. They started punching today so give it a couple weeks.

Play this course on Sunday. Started out great, course was in good condition and greens were in excellent shape. Bunkers were a bit hard packed. 1st nine holes, no wind and warm weather. Back nine was a different story. It was extremely wind and cold. Had to club up 2 to 3 clubs because of the strong winds.

Played last Sunday using a very special coupon rate so it was well worth it. But d%mn it, the last time I played here was a few months ago and every time I play this course, I forget some of the nuances. That d%mn hole on the back nine with the elevated tee box down to the lake at the bottom of the hill and the island green always gets me. Was it a 7 iron 6 iron? We all thought we hit great shots to end up at the bottom of the hill for an easy shot at the green but all of our balls rolled into the water! Tee boxes were fine, fairways were trim and tight, greens rolled pretty good and this was just before it was punched. But the rough is brutal in many spots. In many places here, the rough is like o.b. and there are many hazardous places that are not hazards if you know what i'm sayin'. So you are having a good day with your tee shot, it'll play good for you. If not, it might be a long day. This is a good challenge in my opinion where course knowledge is key. I'd like to play here a few times in a row to learn the ropes here but we tend to jump around the bay area hunting bargains and deals.

Played Shadow on sun on 3/17/13. Nice and friendly pro shop with plenty of shopping opportunities. The course over all was in very good condition. Tee boxes are fairly level with a good place to get your footing. Not too much divot damage. Fairways were nicely trimmed & and well taken care of …… ruff was a little fluffy in some areas, and not too thin in any places. Greens were holding quiet well, because they are a touch on the long side... As they are punching the greens on, 3/18 & 3/19, the following Mon & Tue. Also because of the length the greens were pretty bumpy & slow, but acceptably consistent. Over all a very nice course to play and can be quiet challenging with the length. Then look out for the wind to kick up in the afternoon, or even sooner sometimes…… Look for their email specials on their website & also on Golfnow.com

Played June 24th, sunny day but turned windy at the turn. Course is in decent condition overall but grass can be brown and sparse on some fairways. Greens were rolling fine but typical poa annua greens that can be tough to read sometimes. Bunkers for the most part are terrible but that for some reason is always the case. Not as much rocks as the last time I played here. Pace was good, staff is fine. Saw cart girl 3-4 times. Got a square deal through golfguide.org.

greens were bumpy i have played this course a number of times but never in conditions like this not worth the drive from fremont
