1st I gotta say I didn't walk away from Hiddenbrooke with feelings of high praise. That surprised me a little. They hold quit abit of amateur and pro (Lpga) competition. My review is subjective of course so take it with a grain of salt.

1st off the practice green was lightning fast. I learned later they had it double rolled for a collegiate tourn the week prior. Then I get on the course and left everything short. Apparently they lightly sanded em all after the tourn. The practice green was so fast it had me spooked all day and I couldn't trust the speed, bummerish. That might not have bothered anyone but me however.

Next up the tee boxes. Tiny very uneven with massive damage, not sure if it could be attributed to the tourney or not, but considering their size I imagine they are always ripped up.

The greens did roll relatively smooth and were in great shape overall. The speed varied too much for my liking and the approach shots had me scratchin my head. There were 6 approach shots, Wedges-6 iron, that left no mark at all. The rest left a pitch mark an inch deep. Again this may not bother most people as it did me.

The fairways were in good shape, no complaints, the sand appeared to be in the better condition category but I didn't hit out of any that day. Despite the slope around the fairways the rough grabs a ball pretty well. It's long but it all stands straight up, not difficult to play out of.

So the course is not long. The greens are deceptively tough. It is difficult to see from the fairway where to land the ball. The course is all about the greens. There is some elevation to contend with on 3-4 holes. The par 4 's are short. The par 3's are mid/long. The par 5's are gettable. 3 of them are long par 4's basically. There are a few doglegs that call for a fade otherwise the tee shots are wide open.

I think I'd give this course a higher rating if it wasn't for my high expectations. The greens/tee boxes left a sour taste in my mouth, otherwise I'd say this course was really good. Also it was a learning the golf course day so it's rare you come away liking it as much as you would after getting to know it well.

The staff was very friendly I must say and the bag drop was convenient since the parking lot is a small walk. Oh and for those who care they have a grass driving range, not long but hey you don't see grass ranges much anymore.

I'd recommend giving this course a shot.

Played 4/09/14 on a beautiful day. The course is in better condition then I expected. The fairways were medium, not firm but not soft. The Blue tee boxes were uncared for but level and divot free which is nice. The greens were quite soft, the ball stays within 2-3 feet of the pitch marks. They roll well, medium/slow on the speed and are fairly flat, no huge breaks. The sand is horrid. Crusty/hard. I found 3 and used a 60*, played the same as hitting from hardpan, makes greenside tough and fairway bunkers fun.

The course is fun. Long par 3's and 4's with short par 5's. The tee shot requires attention as the landing zones are small the farther the shot is played. 2 of the front 9 par 5's don't allow for a full driver off the tee without risk of water hazard or a marsh. Bunkers guard tee shots on every hole it seemed.4-5 forced carries over water and other hazards.

This course is built into what I thought was a retirement community, I was pleasantly surprised by the length and difficulty level. I'm told the wind can really get up however the day I played it was only around 10-15 mph (thank god). I'd play it again, and for the $15 deal I got on golfnow I was a happy camper!

Worth playing.

The course was in good condition. The tee boxes were in good shape, no divot damage and all pretty level. The fairways were all in great shape as well. They weren't what I'd call firm, but they did have some roll out. This place has the best sand traps I've found in 20 years, hands down. Dry fluffy sand in every trap I checked (hit out of 3). The greens were smooth and fast. They have alot of contours. I'm told by playing partners the greens are never as fast as they were today, brutal. (I had 1 putt all day I seriously wasn't worried about 2-3 putting). When they are fast, they can cut pins in spots you can 3 putt from 15 feet, easily.(not joking) Really the whole difficulty with this course was fast greens with loads of contour.

There's a god mix of short/long par 4's. No long par 3's and most have severely elevated tee boxes. There are quite a few forced lay ups off the tee's which I found strange. 2 par 5's that you cannot hit driver ( creeks cross fairway at around 245-270). The back nine is much more hilly than the front 9. If it's your first time around this track, there will be alot of guessing where too land from the tee on half of the holes. You really need to place the tee ball correctly here. Only 1 hole that has water come into play. The course is short (6700 from the tips) but the wind manages to lengthen it on many of the holes. It doesn't feel as short as the card shows. You'll use 5-6 different clubs from the tee's. The rough isn't that bad although it is thick.

I could see this course getting very fun after you get to know it. It was abit frustrating for me, 4-5 shots I hit exactly the way I wanted and got not love, but harsh punishment. Want to test your putting skills? Go play Callippe this week.

Played on 2/17/14. Found a hot deal on golfnow for $22. The entire course was in very good condition. The greens were firm but receptive enough for wedges to spin. Not fast but not too slow either. Putts roll smoothly. The tee boxes were level and divot free. Grass driving range is always nice to find. Was good grass too, not rock hard dirt or sand underneath.

The course difficulty is moderate, the par 3's can be tricky to pull the right club when the wind is up. The pace of play was very good, finished a 4some in under 4 1/4. Hilly course is walkable. Tricky to get good yardages on some approaches, many uphill shots. Good mix of short/long par 4's. Most of the par 5's give a reasonable chance to reach in 2 with a good tee shot. Sand traps aren't good, crusty thin sand with loads of pebbles and rocks, on the bright side, the fairway bunkers are a joy to play from because of this. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the course, I haven't played it for years and now I don't remember why I've avoided it. It was a fun round.

Played here with a few buddies and we all agree'd it's too bad we don't live nearer to play this more often. This is a fun course. The condition was even better then expected for a municipal course. The only complaint I had was uneven tee boxes which weren't too bad.

It's a track you need to think. The holes are all doglegs and many blind. The tee shot is key here, you need to be in the right spot. No two holes look alike. I used driver,3wood,2 iron,3 iron, 4 iron off the tee's which to me is fun compared to driver/3wood courses. The fairways where all in good condition.

The greens are great, soft/receptive and roll smooth. Not slow and not extremely fast. If I wasn't 2 hours away from this course, it could easily be my most played.

Played today for the first time in about 8 years. Noticed they have completely redone the driving range. It's beautiful (and I'm a range snob). (don't believe they offer hitting off grass but hey the mats were level and new)

The course is in good condition. Tee boxes are all pretty level and divot free. Even the traps were above par in my book. The greens were VERY soft. Despite this and the amount of play this course gets, they ran VERY true and smooth, no complaints. The wind gets up abit in the afternoons but the course itself plays short so only crosswinds on approach shots had much affect on play or fun.

The course is tree lined with many doglegs. There are some holes with water in play. Playing from the back tee's the course is short but surprisingly it makes you think alot. It's definitely not a cookiecutter course where all the holes look alike. With all the doglegs and direction changes it keeps your interest from 1 to 18 easily. Your gonna need a draw and a fade to get around the way it's intended but d%mn it's fun!

There is only 1 drawback to this course. The fairways and areas around all greens have been overrun by crabgrass. From the fairway it doesn't have much affect. Chipping around greens however is tricky as hell. The closely mown areas remind me very much of astroturf and the longer rough can be really sticky. I suppose if you played often you would learn and get used to it, really need speed to get through a short chip shot so distance control is a challenge.

Overall I recommend this course to anyone. Really fun track.

(if they miraculously were able to eradicate that crabgrass even I wouldn't be able to find a shortcoming here)

I played on 8/1/2013 for the first time. Green fee's were great, $35 on golfnow at 11 am. The course was in beautiful condition. The greens were smooth and had some speed to them (do not be above the hole here). They are huge and have some above average slopes/humps throughout (dead elephants buried under half of them). Tee boxes were surprisingly good condition (considering the amount of play this place gets). Fairways are wide and in good condition.

The wind was tricky, directly into your face off the first tee (1-2 club wind) and off the 2nd, however once in the fairway on the 2nd you cannot feel any wind which really makes the approach a tough club to pick (I picked SW from 78 yds and was shocked to watch it fall out of the air 10 yds short :D). The wind somehow manages to play directly into you off most of the tee's (still scratching my head).

The course plays easy until you are on or near the putting surface. The humps and bumps/slopes are really a challenge. I pushed my tee shot on the 2nd par 3 on the front nine and had a 75 footer which had a rise at the pin of 7 feet breaking hard right to left, ouch. I had a chip on the short par 5 from above the hole(did I mention to never be above the hole?) that I had to play 50 degree's away from the pin, die it on a small ridge and let it fall down a gulley, climb another small ridge which was actually past pin high, die at the top of that ridge and fall backwards down the slope towards the pin. I got lucky and hit it perfectly which left me with a 15 footer back uphill.

This was a fun course to play. There are two drawbacks for me when rating this course. Pace of play and the driving range. We had a 5-12 min wait on every tee. Took a twosome almost 5 1/2 hrs starting at 11 a.m. on a weekday. I actually wouldn't go back because of this alone. The driving range is very small, runs out at around 220 yards, goes straight uphill and has a weird angle to it. Stalls aim you left of the hitting zone onto a sidehill.

I haven't played this course for probably 20 years, played it 7/1/2013 with a friend. Amenities were good, there is a small bunker near the 1st tee to practice from the sand and some chips which I liked. The range uses old rocks for balls however, and simulated asphalt? painted to appear like grass/sand traps etc.

Now for the course. The greens are extremely receptive/soft but actually roll very well. For how soft they are they are very smooth. The breaks are very hard to read. I did not have a putt all day that broke as much as it appeared. Whatever break you read, it plays about half that. The tee boxes are fair, soft spungie ground, not easy to find a level spot, however they were relatively divot free.
The course I suppose is a links course but it has 4-5 tree lined holes throughout, almost feels like two different tracks. There was abit of wind as the course plays right alongside the bay, made for some nice views and some beastly par4/5's on the back nine playing directly into the wind 15,16,17,18 play into the teeth at 430/598/213/410.

The course is mostly flat with no blind approach shots into the greens. The day we played we saw 7-8 red foxes walking throughout the course, completely oblivious to golfers ( would actually walk directly up to and past golfers) and also 4-5 red tail hawks who seem to own the course. I saw 1 fox chase a playing partners ball thinking it was a mouse or small rodent I supposed.

Green fee's on golfnow were reasonable at $32 in the afternoon. For the course itself I'd give it a 3/5 max. HOWEVER, due to the wait on 16 of 18 tee's I won't be returning myself. This course draws beginners and they pack em tight on the tee sheets. They put a man and wife in front of my foursome and a twosome behind us. We played in a little over 5 hours. Oh and the sand traps had about 1 inch of sand that I'd describe as wet gravel (although the trap on 17 had perfect sand in it go figure).

I'd recommend this course for 15+ capper, your not gonna get rushed while searching for your ball and it's wide open off the tee's ( you will have to try very hard to lose a ball here).
