Just a course condition update - Wildhorse is one of the better draining courses in the area. Played last Saturday and they were cart path only. The course was pretty saturated with lots of plugged balls. Called on Monday and they were back to carts on course. I did talk to a member of my mens club who played Teal bend the same day and he said they had carts on the course. He was surprised at how good the condition of the course was with the rain. Could be my new go to when it's wet out.

Fairway's were mostly green and lush. Brown areas mixed in, but over all in good to very good shape.
Greens were in good shape. A little bumpy, mostly from foot prints and old ball marks. Speed about medium/slow,but consistent. Held shots fairly well.
Traps in good shape and rough minor.
Service was good.
The layout is a fun mix of holes and fairly tight. Not a long course. Mostly shorter holes with long par 3's and a couple long par 4's over 400 to get the printed yardage up

I have to say they are in serious need of new carts. They are some of the worst I have seen in a long time. It took three to get my round in. But they were pretty quick on getting the next cart to us. Noticed others having the same problem. No divot mix on any of them. This surprised me a little. They had a appearance that they didn't really care about the carts or the course ? There are not a lot of courses in the area and I think this is up on the list for the amount of play it gets. It was a Monday and they had a local skins game going. The group in front of us was a fivesome and saw one other fivesome. Not a fan of this custom. Many un repaired divots on the greens as well.

Played the horse yesterday 7/18 and the course is in really nice shape. The bunkers leave a little to be desired. They're not dragging them so the sand is wet and compacted. If you stray too far off the fairway it's hard pan or thick brush, otherwise the rough is in pretty good shape. The greens are in great shape. They are soft and very receptive yet rolling smooth. They are medium paced but rolling true. I am a little disappointing that they flipped the nines for the summer. What is usually one of the best finishing stretches in the area is now the end of the front nine. 16 is a drivable par 4 for longer hitters. 17 is a risk reward par 5 that runs left with water all down the left. If you can settle your nerves and bite off enough you'll have a good opportunity to get home in 2. 18 requires a good tee shot to have a chance to carry the ravine to the green. It's not uncommon to have a long iron or hybrid into this green. Unfortunately now the are 7, 8 and 9. Still a fun course, in good shape and priced affordably.

Wildhorse Golf Course is a very pleasant course. The staff were very friendly, and provided excellent service. The Pro Shop is small because of renovation being made to enlarge the clubhouse. The course is not overly difficult, but it does provide ample chances good golf, and rewards you with excellent chances to make good shots. The bunker were average, the fairways above average, and the greens were rolling smooth.

Overall, a very flat layout, but plenty of variety. As previous reviewers have stated, shorter holes were mixed with some real buttkickers with not a whole lot in between.
Conditions were consistently pretty good with just some hairyness around the borders. Greens were confusing, undulating, but rolled well even though I never had the speed of them at any point during the day. Most had quite a few ballmarks however.
Tee boxes and fairways were both solid overall with divot damage here and there. Rough was inconsistent with a few problem areas. Bunkers were a bit on the thin side. POP was solid that early in the morning and I finished in just under 4 hours.

A solid option if you're in the area and very much worth the rate I paid.

Played the course on 2/15/2013. The course is in great shape although the greens are a little slower than usual. If you haven't played it, there are a mix of easy holes and some very challenging ones. Some holes are very forgiving and some very penal. Overall this is a course that will suit all abilities and provide an enjoyable round. Also note that this course drains extremely well. If it's been raining (which it has not) this is the course to play.

Was not expecting the course to be in the best of shape, what with all the weather they have had lately. But it was very playable, note that the greens were very tough and thin, but rolled truer that expected.
Then on the back side 9, a 6some rolls through, yes "6", loud and very rude when we asked them to be watchful during our putts.
All this was done IN FRONT OF THE MARSHALL. Thus showing the total lack of class these guys had for the game.
Turns out my son recognized them as EMPLOYEES of some sort of the Golf Club, when they were called on it they yelled to me "Nice F------ pink shirt &ssh*le . Well it is actually raspberry, not that that's a problem.
After showing no fear to them, they then told the Marshal to come to us and apologize???
Not even man enough to do it themselves. Now it seems one of them was the son of a part owner of the course????
Anyway we have spoken to some of our regular golf group friends and have all vowed to not ever play there again, that's 20 players NOT spending money there ever again.

I played here on 03/11/12 from the Black tees at 73.5/135/6828. My overall experience here was not great, but this course has so much potential that under the right circumstances this course could be a great play. First the bad, our group was 20 minutes late teeing off and then had to suffer through a 5.5 hour round, one of the longest rounds of golf in my life. In addition, some of the course maintenance was average with bare spots and unevenly cut grass. For a good price $30 on a weekend I am not going to comment anymore on these drawbacks. Now the good, the layout of the holes (with the exception of the first two holes) is top notch. After a couple average holes to begin, #3 is a long par 4 that gently rises up to the green with a view of farmland off in the distance. There is a mix of good birdie holes (ie: hole #17 with water left) if you hit a good shot and some holes where you have to play smart to avoid the trouble. The par 3’s are all a great challenge and while a lot of the holes have trouble there are spots to miss it and still be able to give yourself a shot at a par. The last hole is a great finishing hole, a 465 yard par 4 over a hazard on the approach, and it played even longer as we had some wind into us. Northern California has had a very dry winter to date and it showed here. The greens were rock hard and did not receive any approaches and I found no way to get it close to a front pin location. The back pin locations were accessible, but required an approach landing on the front of the greens. The greens were fast and had many large slopes. Finally, the course is very walkable as for the most part it is flat. I will not go as far to recommend Wildhorse as there are so many better maintained, managed, and more scenic courses in Sacramento, but if you are visiting friends or family locally you might check this place out.
