With little outside the area, this gem is one of the areas best kept secret. Once used to highlight a housing development, this course utillizes the local wetlands with creeks. The layout design features a variety which creates a bit individuality compared to other courses in the area. The condition of the course is very good except in the rainy season, which leads to a lot of soggy spots near creeks and ponds. Of course, the summer unleashes the fast greens but typically hold well placed shots. The rough is what you would expect, long and deep in places which leaves a disctinct difference of the fairway, which, for the most part lush, with the exception of sand filled divots infiltrate the each fairway. The greens are fast but are fair that roll true. The sand is probably the biggest issue on the course but is not uncommon these days because of the economy. Play is down and fluffy, white sand is a luxury even with upscale courses.

This might be the best public course to play within a 20 mile radius of Sacramento. For the price, this is where you want to play.

Greens were aerified three weeks ago but do not play this course till mid May for them to return to normal conditions. Sand traps are in bad shape and has rocks, so be weary of the traps.

Played on a 100 degree day and surprised to see to fellow golf nuts as well, even an outdoor wedding. The course played firm but the greens held shots, so obvious they water them. The fairways are firm but are not as green as they can be, but no different than any other course in the area except your private courses. The cart girl was very busy, she must've been cloned because she was everywhere on the course. Whitney Oaks played as difficult as ever but I can't recall ever hitting the ball so well, so I found myself in positions I've never been in before.

Two weeks have past since greens were punched and the greens are playable, however they're a little on the soft side. You can attack the pins right now and still have a bit of challenge trying to sink them. The green fees are a bit high, I only play there during twilight or look for internet deals. The greens is what makes this course tough and they will be in top form in two weeks.

To people who play this course:

Please your repair your divots, the course can be so much better if its patrons care about this course.

First of all, congrats to the grounds crew for doing amazing job on the greens. During the month of June, it will be one of the best kept secrets in the area.

Played there a week ago and regretted it, fairways are horrible. Stay away from Plumas Lake till mid spring.
