Played late morning June 29th. $39 with the stay and play package. POP 3 hours with waiting on the last nine holes.Conditions are good overall. Tees were a little beat up on par 3s, but every other were good just a little long. Fairways good coverage a few dry spots, but very few. Rough was good getting bare towards edges as to be expected. Bunkers looked a little ragged, but played quite well. Loose sand on top with a little firmer on the bottom. Grounds crew was working on them edging and loosing up the sand. Greens were quite good. Medium slow with lots of subtle breaks. Course winds through houses and lots of mature trees. Hitting the driver very essential here. Great old style vibe to the place.

Overall- An old CC layout with hit and miss conditions and a variety of holes routed thru homes.

Pace- Teed off mid morning after the early times and never had anyone in front or behind the entire day. 3.5 hours included an at the "turn" long drive back to the clubhouse to get drinks as water on course was scarce.

Conditions- The conditions varied greatly. Greens ran medium to quick, some were very bad, some nice and smooth, and some in between. Bunkers were crusty but had good sand bases, many had been neglected by players and left unraked. Tees, consistent coverage with some unlevel and/or divoted areas. Fairways mostly good with some bare areas and some unkempt areas. Rough was thick and unmown in some areas and uniform in others. There is a serious critter problem and there were many areas of the course with the corresponding damage from tunneling, feeding, burrowing etc.

Staff- Were all extremely nice and easily the best part of the experience.

Value- Good enough for us to drive over from the Central Valley.

Layout- Kikuyu on most of the course makes it play long for the yardage. Not knowing this was previously 36 holes it appeared to us as if the layout had been altered by abandoning holes and adding others. Apparently it is a compound layout of holes from the original two courses reduced to 18. A few of the holes may be described as quirky or unique depending on your pov, #7 and #10.

Amenities- Aging but well kept.

Think of Ridgemark as a muni course. If you go there thinking it's a resort course you will be disappointed. However, if you arrive with the mindset you're about to play a muni course then you'll enjoy the experience. I was surprised at how nice the greens were. They rolled smooth and true. The greens are definitely the best part of the course (condition wise).

Fairways are average and tee boxes are a little less than that. Sand traps are horrible.

Now for the course layout. I would like to preface this by saying that I had NO control of my driver today so I'm trying to take that into consideration. I never played here when it was a 2 course layout so I can't comment on which holes were good and which ones weren't.

The track has a decent mix of dog leg right and lefts to make you work (or try to) your ball in both directions. Landing areas are decent with only a few fairway traps to get in the way. The fairway bunkers looked fairly easily to escape from.

I was a bit disappointed that on two of the par 5's I needed to lay up off the tee in order to avoid a ditch/gully/hazard . I thoroughly enjoy a second shot that teases you with a go for it or lay up hazard but I want to grip it and rip it off the tee (not that that was happening today anyway). Also 3 of the 4 par 3's are highbred length holes.

Overall it's a decent "muni" quality course with above average greens.

Played the "new" Ridgemark last weekend, and in fairness to the harsh review I gave it last time, I am happy to report things are noticeably better at this course. We all agreed the greens have never looked or played better (in the last 15 years, anyway). Mostly smooth as you-know-what, fairly uniform in speed and health. Minimal ball marks and easy to fix. The "putting on a mattress" syndrome appears to have been removed. Anyway, other improvements are in Pace of Play, carts (new) and cost.

The routing is still crazy once you leave the original Diablo front 7 or 8 (or whatever it was). The bunkers and fairways are about the same (meh, but not bad) and some tee boxes a bit crowned. Some of the old holes appear to partially maintained, but unused. For the price and relaxed atmosphere I can live with it, and will play here again. I wish all the members and former members good luck with their home course.

This was actually my third course played today, but I'll post this review first as it is the least interesting course. I walked on out here about 3:30 and it was pretty wide open. Played through one fivesome on the front and then joined up with a couple other singles for the final few holes. Total pace great at around 3 hours. Late afternoon price was very good at $24 with cart included. The good news is the course conditions were much better than expected after the last review. That said, Ridgemark does have some issues, but that is more with the wacky new condensed-18 routing than the conditioning. What is open now is in solid shape with good playability. The tee boxes were fine, but are being overtaking by little white flowers. Fairways mostly pretty good. I always had decent lies. Rough a bit more inconsistent, but the primary areas are relatively nice. Greens are very soft and slow, but the surfaces were mostly good. I was in one bunker and it was heavy/compacted, so they probably haven't been fluffed back up since the last rain came through. Having not played either of the original courses before, it's hard to know how the new condensed 18 layout measures up. There are some weird areas where you just drive past a "dead" hole to get to the next one in the new routing. Kind of sad, but I thought the current hole combination was fine enough. It's a relatively forgiving course with just a few tricky holes. The greens are big and easy to get at and the fairways are pretty wide open for the most part. It helped that I had one of my best rounds ever today, but otherwise, I wouldn't go too far out of the way to recommend Ridgemark. Nearby San Juan Oaks is far superior on every level, though understandably more expensive.

Wow, where to start. This former 36 hole set up is now a combination of the two - Diablo (nearest the highway) and Gabilan - mostly through the houses. The place - either course - was Ok to tolerable for years and hosted many tournaments and organized golf events. Since the July closure of 18 of the holes (an amalgam of the two courses) it seems to have fallen on very hard times. Water is the official culprit, but lack of maintenance and elbow grease seems to have capped the decline. Played last weekend. Greens always slow, overly soft and bumpy can add unsightly (loads of old and new unfixed ball marks and brown spots to the list). The new routing is a bit confusing, but temporary signs fix most of that. Never a walking friendly course, it seems all but impossible now. Some ponds have been drained. The pricing is still reasonable, but the patient seems to not be doing well. I feel bad for the members (or former members) and those homeowners who now have rotting golf hole views. Play it if you're not picky about course conditions; there are some fun holes, but be warned that as of the summer of 2014 it's not what it was.
